After multiple trips to WDW over the years -- I have always driven.
This trip we decided to go on the train from Raliegh, NC to Orlando.
It took 13 hours and was right on time.
Roundtrip was only $166 for the two of us ! Cheaper than planes which DH doesn't like and about what we would spend on gas.
They have a lift to help board the power wheelchair.
I was able to turn my seat around to face husband which was nice.
That also gave him more room. He is an amputee but someone with legrests might find it cramped. Without leg rests he could recline and sleep during the trip. Transferrring to the seats would also be an option for many.
Bathroom is located right behind the wheelchair seating area. The door is wide but for many the transfer might be difficult. I took a picture but don't see how to put it here
could email it if anyone needs to see it.
We had reserved a taxi with Mears. As I got off the train the driver was pulling into the station and helped me with the luggage while DH unloaded. On the return trip they were also punctual -- actually ten minutes early! We had called an hour ahead each time to confirm the reservation as they recommended. Both drivers we had were great!!
Train has dining car -- staff helped a single handicapped passenger get food. I went and got our breakfast. Had brought sandwiches and drinks with us (had meals left on the dining plan to use up ). Also suggest a light blanket or sweat shirt on the train due to cool temperatures. They provide small pillows but I had carried one of ours not knowing that.
We would definitley do the train / taxi option again! It was nice not to drive for a change!
