Wow, what a crazy 5 days. I will make my report short and highlight what we did with a few comments. Before I do, let me start by saying how worried I was last week before we left to stay at the Poly. I spent the past few months reading some horrid reports on these boards about the Poly. We have not stayed there for more than 4 years. It was to be our 3rd time there and we love the Poly more than any other Disney property. I suppose that any vacation is what you make of it. I never go anyplace with high expectations. Instead, we travel feeling blessed to have the opportunity to be lucky enough to have our family, to be lucky enough to have our health, and to be lucky enough to be in Disney, I have learned that these boards are peoples opinions and that anyone that visits here has to take it all in stride and form opinions of their own and then share their own experiences so that others can get a different perspective. So here is mine:
We arrived at 9:00pm on Tuesday. I thought that arriving late would mean all the good rooms would be gone. I sent a room request for Tokelau, 3rd floor, overlooking the quiet pool, and a room far away from the elevator and ice machine. I got it all. Room 3943. It was beautiful. Just the way I remembered 4 years ago. Our CM at check in was Sandi. She was friendly, informative, and welcoming. She gave us all a lei and made us feel at home. In fact, every time we went through the lobby and my daughter saw a different color lei being distributed, she waited in line and asked for one and they put it around her neck and said Aloha. The grounds were clean and beautiful. Our entire building including the hall ways and room did not smell musty at all like I read previously. Our room was immaculate. We called for a refrigerator and it was there in 5 minutes. Every CM we passed on foot and on a cart said Aloha. The pools were beautiful and heated. The quiet pool was expecially warm because it was a bit chilly on Friday and Saturday night so it was very relaxing. The beach was beautiful. There were hammocks and swinging benches. We viewd the fireworks and light parade from there every night. My DD (age 11) loved the volcano slide. FYI - It closes at dark because that is when the lifeguards get off duty so you cannot use the slide only the pool. Ohana's was really good. One of the best meals we had. Captian Cooks was great for light meals and snacks. The Poly is still our favorite Disney property and I would stay there again tomorrow. (if someone would pay my way) ALOHA!!

I too always do my own accessing....if I didn't do this then I would never know and see and go to some great places and meet great people......thanks for that info on the Poly too......sounds like you had an awesome time

Your vacation philosophy is very similar to mine. :sunny:

Thanks for the great report. We are going to the Poly in the summer of '05, and I also was getting a bit worried about all of the bad reports. I'm glad you had a great trip! Nice to see a good report!

Thank you for your trip report. Your views on appreciating and being thankful for the opportunity to travel are so welcome. And we all need reminding now and then.

I think the Poly had the best, most relaxing atmosphere and a charm completely unique to it. Makes me want to book a Poly vacation now!!!

Thanks for your report. Although we are staying at the Contemporary in just over a week, I am thinking of booking the Poly for our next WDW vaca. The resort does look like it would be relaxing. Thanks again, and ALOHA . . . .

Thanks for your report...

You always have to remember when reading anything: some see the glass half empty and some as half full (and some just want the glass filled up again!).

We've had good service at WDW, we've had bad. We've had good times at WDW and bad...I CHOOSE to remember the good and chuck the bad into the dark recesses of my mind.

I know what you mean. Some people give my BCV down the road and every stay I've had has been wonderful. Before our first trip to AKL before joining DVC, there were all kinds of bad reports. I shook my head in disbelief the whole time I was there that anyone would think that the transportation was slow, the rooms were dark, etc, etc. Some folks just think they ARE princesses, and that everyone should bow down to them. "I'm here! I want towel animals, and free gifts, the best view and...." Well, you get it. You just can't please some.
