Had a wonderful time staying at OKW last week, visited SSR and ate at Artist's Palette (didn't attend MH), and met some wonderful DVC/DIS members at the Land Tuesday afternoon. A few items to mention-first, our room didn't seem preassigned when we checked in Sunday about 3:00. CM looked in his computer at what rooms he had that met our requests. I was kind of sad that they were all in Southpoint. Nothing against Southpoint, but 2 out of 3 trips we've gotten Southpoint. I was kind of hoping for a different area, just so I could try them all-then, who knows, I might decide Southpoint is my favorite, but I hoped to try all the areas first. I took the DVC ferry over to SSR Wednesday. One thing I noticed that made it look unimpressive is that there really isn't much vegetation-yet. I'm sure that will change in a few months, especially with the Florida climate. The buildings are beautiful, and so I'm anxious to see it in 7 months, when DS and I stay there in January. I'll bet it will look much prettier. The food in Artist's Palette was excellent, a welcome change from the usual hamburgers, hot dogs, and fries (none of which they sell). I had chicken parmesan-yum! A little costly, however. The CMs there seemed especially friendly, so anxious to please. Even though it was prime dinner time (6-6:30), no one was there and the CMs all fell over themselves making sure I knew where everything was and got just what I needed. Then I made the mistake of going to the restroom before I ate dessert (yes, I know that's a no-no for a solo diner), came back-clear table, dessert gone! CM made sure I got a new piece of cake immediately and kept smiling and apologizing. Wow, what service!
Great meet at the Land on Tuesday-it reinforced what I've always said, "DISers are some of the nicest people!"
One funny little occurence I have to mention. Sunday eve, we stopped into Gurgling Suitcase for a drink. Said the usual niceties, "Hello", to the other couple there, and within 30 seconds the man had managed to work the conversation to how terrible it was that OKW was getting a pool slide. "They didn't even ask the members-this time-you know, they asked a few years ago and it got voted down.....it's going to add 41-46 cents per point to our dues". For the rest of the week, DH and I kept kidding about "For some excitement, let's stop into Gurgling Suitcase and yell "Pool slide!"
Sorry if this is long. I'd be happy to answer any questions.

That is wild Simba - I headed in to the Suitcase on Sunday night to get a beer to go and overheard parts of this conversation. Since I can be opinionated, love the idea of the slide, and BCV is our home resort I felt it best to get my beer and walk away! That was Bom ordering the Red Stripe!

Hope you had a good time!

Thanks for the report, Simba's Mom. I wonder where the guy at GS got the 41¢ to 46¢ figure?

You forgot to mention the Illuminations cruise we took one evening with other DVC DIS bb members. Thanks to Mike for securing the boat & allowing the rest of us to join him!

I can understand where the member was coming from at the Gurgling Suitcase. As an OKW owner for several years, the last mention of a pool slide at OKW was in a survery years ago. At that time members voted to not add a pool. I would have thought member's should have had some input/information before a decision was made.

However, we know from the OKW annual meeting last December that the 41 to 46 cents per point is quite high. I believe when I asked after the meeting it was more like 3-4 cents per point.

The 41 cents is way out of line, maybe 4.1 cents but not 41 cents.

I'll admit that I have no idea and didn't question him about his figure of 41 cents or 46 cents. Actually, I'm not sure he would have heard me from way up there on that soapbox of his. I figured it was just easier to let him rant.
And bom_noite, DH remembers you coming in, getting your beer and quietly leaving. Why didn't you join in on the conversation? Wow, that might have made for more fireworks than are at Illuminations!
