Just back from Contemporary - disappointing!

So so you think if someone gets a dirty room they should just be happy with it? or that they should just shut up about it on the DIS boards? :confused3 I don't think the OP is unreasonable in expecting a clean room - and at the prices the CR charges I would expect the best room of my life personally!

So I don't understand the problem you and Betsy have with the complaint - I'm not trying to start something up but wondering if I'm missing something? :wave2:
-------------------------

Nope - no problem whatsoever with someone expecting a clean room and voicing their displeasure when they don't receive one.. It can happen anywhere - on-site, off-site and at the most expensive hotels in the world..

I just wouldn't write off my favorite resort based on a single incident for exactly the reason I stated above - it can happen anywhere, anytime.. People tend to have this illusion that because it's a Disney Resort it can't/won't happen on occasion.. Others have posted never having had a room that wasn't clean in the same resort - so what does that tell us?

Go and enjoy your vacation.. If your room isn't clean, ask to be moved.. Life is way too short to write off things/places/people off on one single incident - don't you think? :flower:

Life is WAYYY TOOOO SHORRRT for any such nonsense. :flower: Like water....off a duck's back. I just "ride the tide" and "go with the flow" of whatever comes my way. It does NO good to get your panties in a twist over things you can not control. Understanding, patience and common "kindness" goes a LOOOONG way in such circumstances. :goodvibes

ZIPBAGS ....So happy to read about your MAGICAL stay @ the CR. I certainly hope you and your DD's had a memorable time, and enjoyed the view of the KINGDOM from the TOWER! IT's one of my FAVORITE things in all the world. :cloud9:

C.Ann~ The "dirty room" comment is TOO funny! Maybe Disney should offer the "BUBBLE ROOM" for those seeking the extra-sterile resort experience!

I agree.

That's not what I got from your first post - I figured I must have missed something!

Disney Debbie: is that southern thing supposed to be a joke or what???

Yes. I read it somewhere and thought it was hysterical. :rotfl: It's also SOOOO true! I've lived in GA since I was 8 - but I'm originally from Kansas City - so I will never be considered a "TRUE" southerner by a lot of the folks in small town Georgia. My DH is a half breed - his mom was born in GA but his dad in Ohio - so I don't know what that makes my DD! She was born in GA and so was her Dad - but no one on my side was.

And for those "true" southerners - I take no offense to this attitude - I think it's pretty funny. I have definitely adopted the south as my true home :cloud9: - even if they haven't all adopted me! :goodvibes

As the Original Poster, I'd like to clarify that I never said our room was dirty. (I think some other posters brought up that point.)

The problem with the first room was the poor location and the broken sliding door (which didn't completely close so bugs, water, etc could have gotten into the room.)

If the CR had been so kind to let me into a room at 10:00, I might have been willing to overlook these problems and accept a sub-standard room. After waiting for hours in the lobby with 3 exhausted children, I was a lot less flexible at 4:30 than I would have been at 10:00. : )

You also need to remember that the CR told me in the morning that my room would be ready in a few hours. That's why I returned to the CR around 1:00 (3 hours later.)

Also, I don't think I'm letting ONE incident ruin my impression of the CR. I very politely called the manager, gave them the opportunity to fix the problem (which they did) and was ready to leave the whole incident behind me.

The thing is, we continued to have issues....the snotty front desk clerk, the peeling wallpaper and worn out bedding in the second room, the non-existent housekeeping (which by the way I called a couple times and requested that the room be made up in the AM but it never happened before 4:00.)

Believe me, I didn't let any of this ruin my vacation and I don't think many of the other posters did either. I just think a lot less of the CR than I used to (like many others on this board.)

When I had originally wrote this morning I was mostly trying to address those who were getting nervous about their up coming trips to CR. I wanted to interject that most of the time it is the bad times that are written down.

Then I started to remember that I had/have read so much on these boards that are about imperfections and started to look around and try and find them and that was not how I like to do vacations and when back to my old self of not sweating the small stuff.

In some ways your frustration was similar to mine, you said you waited hours and were'nt allowed to get in your room until 4:30. Well, that's really only 1.5 hour wait. If you were there early in the day expecting a room, that's not Disney's fault. They don't guarantee a room until 3:00. So, I'm a little confused as to the "hours" wait. We were at AK in the am when we checked in. Our room was not ready until well after 4. We were tired and irate. I complained and got a different room that I wasn't happy with. You know what...That was my fault for not waiting for the room I was assigned. I got impatient.

I've read that the CR is going to be renovated. When will the renovation take place or be completed? I'm looking at upgrading to a Deluxe Resort because my MIL will now be joining us on our trip in March '06.

Last year when we had a Character Meal at Chef Mickeys - I walked around the Contemporary and was a little dissapointed. It kind of looked run down. My DD who is 10 said to me that she liked where we were staying better.

Here is the kicker. We were staying at Pop Century. Even though I love Pop Century, I don't think it should be better then a deluxe resort when it comes to looking new. The bottom line when you are spending that kind of money, you should not be treated like that and you should not have to stay in a shabby room.

That's why they are renovating the Contemporary. Pop Century is going to look newer than the Contemporary at the moment because it IS newer.

Yes that is a given, but when a resort is at that point, there should be some sort of special rates until it does get redone. That is a lot of money to spend to get a shabby room. They should let the guest know that we are getting ready to redo this resort by next year - so in the meantime we have a lower rate then the other deluxes until the refurbishing of this resort is complete.

That's a good idea...but it'll never happen as long as people continue to keep the resort full at the current rates, shabby rooms and all.

The Contemporary is considerably cheaper than the other monorail resorts and the Epcot area deluxes. I'm guessing once the renovation is completed that the prices will go up.

The reason I said we waited several hours is that the desk clerk told us at 10:00 am to return in "a few hours" and the room would be ready. We returned 3 hours later at 1:00 and then were continually told "give us another half hour."

If they had told me at 10:00 to "come back at 3:00", then that's what I would have done. If they had told us at 1:00, "your room won;t be ready until 4:00" I would have left the lobby and found a more pleasant use of our time.

So I spent 3+ hours waiting in the lobby because the front desk kept telling the room would be ready in a half hour.

I lived in Fla back in the day when the Contemporary was contemporary and I absolutely adore California Grill, but I've never had the urge to stay there.

Still, this was an interesting thread and your desrciptions of the CMs sounds like a system under stress to me. New building projects are one of the most difficult transitions any group of folk can undergo and I expect they get more than their share of complaints, thus their defensiveness and distancing. This kind of behavior, however, is not something vacationers should have to put up with anywhere, let alone DW. The whole cast should be getting special training and extra support as the resort makes its way through this transition.

Only the wing rooms are cheaper. The tower rooms are more then the Poly standard rooms and only $5 less then the GF standard rooms. The wing rooms are very cheaply had.

We are paying the $244.00 per night in Sept. (of course we are getting the free dining, but didn't know that at the time of booking)
Not to be rude but...
You think that this is cheaply had? Wow, what is your budget? :teeth:

I'm sure that was meant in a 'comparatively speaking' sort of way. Since the other monorail resorts' cheapest rooms in value season are the Polynesian's garden view at $304 and the Grand Floridian's garden view at $349, I'd have to agree that yes, a CR garden wing at $244 is cheaply had. Comparively speaking.

Yes, I guess I can understand the "comparatively speaking" angle...
Hope nobody takes my post as being rude...I certainly didn't mean to be...
