Just back from Contemporary - disappointing!

Shouldn't a hotel built in the '70s be called "The Retro" instead of "The Contemporary"? ;) Sounds like it's time has come and gone.

oh lord I hope not, I was born in the 70's, I would hope my time has not come and gone!!! :rotfl:

I think Disney is making major changes to this resort for this reason, Flat screen tv's?? How much more modern can you get really??? They look very modern so I hope DISNEY continues to update one of it's most nestalgic hotels...I remember as a little kid going across the boat and thinking it was sooo cool...we always stayed at a condo off site becuse my parents were time share owners but my cousins always stayed for weeks at a time at the GF....I remember seeing that resort and being very jealous of them...I had pics in my mind as a kid of going to the GF and having people feed you grapes and fan you at the pool :rotfl: I am very excited about our trip...my kids actually like the AS themes the best so they looked at the CR and the DELUXES and said we want to go to that dalmatian hotel!!! :rotfl: Oh well, the deluxe themes are kinda lost on little ones IMO...

We spent 6 nights at the contemp last july and it was not what i expected. we were so excited to stay at one of the monorail hotels, but many of the front desk staff were less than pleasant, seemed to ignore guests. i had spent a week at the pop century before moving to the contemp for the back half of my trip - i actually made it a point to go back to the pop and tell the manager on the front desk how wonderful they were and how much we loved staying there. the food court at the contemp closed so promptly at 10 that we could not get food after doing the mk many nights - i will not stay there again. i don't think i should have to pay extra for a tower rm to get better treatment either, the standard rooms were not cheap. :guilty:

The bottom line is that you can have bad experiences at any hotel anywhere regardless of hotel class, hotel chain, etc...

From my perspective if you are not happy with a room because of cleanliness, simply asked to be moved. Again, at any hotel class, you have the right to a clean room. If a hotel is not accomodating, you can move hotels or you can even dispute the room charge on your credit card (only use this option after you have exhausted all measures, including calling the hotel chain corporate office).

My family and I will be staying at the CR this September. If I am assigned a room that is dirty, I will ask to be moved. I will first ask to look at the new room before having my bags moved to ensure I am happy.

We ALWAYS stay at the Wilderness Lodge, but the past two times we were there, we weren't happy. My personal opinion is that the rooms there are in need of a rehab. On our last trip, we were given a room where the carpet was dirty, two of the lights needed to be changed and the toilet seat had to be replaced (it was peeling something terrible). Having said all that, we didn't want to move because we got the location we wanted. Instead, we asked to have the carpet cleaned, the toilet seat cover replaced and the two light bulbs replaced. The hotel was very accomodating and did everything. So that is another option for a guest.

So I guess my point here is that problem rooms can happen anywhere and it's up to you, the buyer, to decide how you want to handle it (move, have it cleaned, etc...). But you should never have to "settle" for a dirty room.

I agree with this..You paid the money, so you can ask for a comp. Plain and simple.

For those that feel that "since I'm paying 300 a night, I deserve a clean room", I say - I agree and see my previous statement. I also feel that since I'm paying that much, my experience should somewhat reflect my expenses. Now, I will also say that since we are staying during the time that the CR is undergoing renovations, we will certainly extend some grace to the staff. Does this excuse them from cleaning our room? Absolutely not. Does this excuse them for being behind the 8-ball in their timing of rehabbing it? Nope. What it does do is to cut everyone a break and allows us to enjoy the trip that we are spending big money to take.

I love this board now that I found it. I know that everyone has a right to compliment or complain. I've done both. Lets just support each other and respect everyone else's opinion - regardless of whether it's positive or negative.. Hugs to everyone ! :grouphug:

I am really sorry you had such a bad experience!

In February, we cruised on the Wonder and arrived verrrrry early at the WL, too. I think we arrived at about 8:30. I had no hopes of being checked in early, really, but we tried. We were told that our room would be ready by 10AM and it was. We stayed Concierge-- I'm not sure if that had anything to do with it??? But if so, it's not fair.

If I had to wait with my antsy kids as long as you did only to find a yucko room at the end of the wait, I would have been really upset, too.

Sorry that the CR ended up being a disappointment. I hope your cruise was great! :flower:

to the OP-I am sorry that they did not just split you and get you in a room immediately, having done the wait in the teal lobby for an hour with kids I sympathize, thank goodness for that arcade and good for you for asking for the change when the room was subpar

When we went to the CR May 10th-14th we had to wait for our room but were gone to tea for quite sometime and I called on my cell phone the little number they give you to get your room assignment when we were riding the monorail, which was lovely because when we checked in I did not feel the magic when we checked in from our CM, though the second CM that helped us with issuing the keys and theme park tickets who was in training for Hong Kong Disneyland was so cheerful I forgot about the first one soon after.

We were worried when we initially went into the north wing because the walls were scuffed and they had taken down the wallpaper and it appeared they were getting ready to paint or rewallpaper, but worry left when we got to our room which was absolutely beautiful on the inside (luck of the draw I guess), though it being a Jr Suite may have had an influence on its appearance. We had turn down service nightly and excellant housekeeping (towel animals and all).

I do agree the contemp is needing the update, and from seeing the new rooms, it will be a true treat. I will not be surprised if there is a price hike in its future
