What a beautiful resort! Once again, Disney has thought of all the little details! The music in the lobby was wonderful! it truly transported me to the African Savanah. The rooms were lovely. We had 2551 and 2553 on the Zebra trail. I really liked our location. Yes, we saw many animals from our balcony. Yet we were not on the main hallway, so had no noise from people passing by. Have to say we had a loud group next door the first night and so could hear that family, but after they left, we no longer heard our neighbors. Room 2551 had bunkbeds and 1 queen, 2553 had 2 queen beds. Being on the Zebra Trail, we didn't have to walk far to the pool or Mara for cup refills.
We used the pool a lot as it was VERY hot. The pool was always crowded and busy, but everyone was very courteous. My kids loved it! We went to the storytelling one evening which was very nice. Our storyteller was very amusing and we had a lot of laughs.
Left mousekkeping a tip every day in the disney envelopes. No animal towels though!
They did however arrange DS's "lovies" on his bunkbed several days!
The rooms were very well kept though and very pretty. Noticed that they didn't vacuum every day however
Some crumbs from chips were very noticable on the floor.
Mara - The food was very good. Reasonably priced by Disney standards. The coffee was EXCELLENT.
Loved eating outside on the patio at night! Very tropical to me.
Kids really liked their offerings as well.
Buses - We usually hit it pretty well and didn't have to wait too long. But the resort is quite far from DD, MK etc, so you were on the bus for a long time. Leaving the park and going back to resort to cool down in afternoon really ate into our time. Had dinner at BC Cape May Cafe one night. Took us an hour and one half to get back to the resort after dinner.
Had to take a bus to DD then get another to AKL. Makes for a very long day! If only they really would put in more monorails!
Final thoughts - we truly enjoyed this resort, but will probably not stay there again. My DH felt that it was just too far from everything. Granted, he loves the location of the BWI, so his judgement is colored. Next time we will try a monorail resort or YC/BC. But the themeing and atmosphere at AKL should be tried at least once!
