Following up on the April 29, 2017 news reports that "The Rock" Dwayne Johnson will not only be starring in a live action movie based on the Jungle Cruise attraction but helping Disney Imagineering redesign the attraction as well, my wife received a survey yesterday from Disney (disneyconsumerresearch@em.disneyinteractive.com) asking about her past experiences on the Jungle Cruise.

The survey first asked us which parks we had traveled to recently and then quickly moved into asking about the Jungle Cruise. The survey asked about what elements were memorable, what scenes were liked vs. not liked, what changes were desired to the attraction, rating various components of the attraction, various keywords that one would attach to the attraction (e.g., scary, funny, thrilling), etc. There was also a very long section about whether the survey respondent would be interested in a TV show or movie based on the Jungle Cruise and whether the respondent would purchase various Jungle Cruise themed merchandise (no surprise there).

A quick google search reveals that others have received this survey as well.

As a loyal JC fan, my wife responded that we loved the attraction as-is and the best part of the attraction is the skipper and all of the timeless jokes in the spiel that my 2 kids love to repeat ad nauseum. Despite this though, it does seem that Disney is doing some basic market research about the Jungle Cruise attraction perhaps a precursor to either rehabbing or totally re-doing the attraction along with the movie release (of course assuming it's a success like Depp & Pirates and not like Eddie Murphy & Haunted Mansion).

Other thoughts or reactions?

None of that is a surprise. They're trying to make it less nostalgic and more contemporary. There are certainly people who love the jc as it is (I'm one of them) but they've probably gotten feedback from way more people that would like it revved up. It feels more corny than anything else- no thrills. I have two jungle cruise pins but I can't think of any other JC themed stuff family members have bought. In terms of popularity, it isn't Pirates or haunted mansion.

On the plus side, I am not actually a big fan of the rock, so I'm predicting this is going to be a big fat flop. It's not a princess movie and the rock is no johnny depp or even Orlando bloom or Keira. I'd be AMAZED if this is a blockbuster. Therefore- not worried about any significant change.

I received survey as well but mine went into great detail about the haunted mansion. Maybe those haunted mansion restaurant rumors arent rumors. Definate research in regards to updating the ride adding restaurants and all kinds of merch.

Glad to see how you responded :thumbsup2 ... I mean, I am all for updating the animatronics and maybe adding some to what is in the part when you go through the temple since the skippers can't talk during that part so it is a bit boring. But I don't want them to get rid of the Skippers spiel and puns and stuff - it is what makes it unique and, to me, uniquely "Disney"

I received this email survey as well, but mine went into detail about changes for Thunder Mountain. It was the same type of questions but all of them centered on Thunder Mountain.

Seems like they've definitely got some major rehab plans stewing, I'm assuming for the 50th.

I bet that a rehab is inevitable and I doubt that Dwayne Johnson will have any actual input into that. I say that as a fan. I could see him becoming an audioanimatronic so that could be the help he provides.

Totally agree. I would also like to see periodic overlays at WDW. The Jingle Cruise overlay in Disneyland is fantastic and you can tell many of the skippers really get into it.

#1 element to a good Jungle Cruise is the skipper. The best ones are when they feel like they are off-script. Loved it back in the days when the skipper could just riff off the top of their head as they were going around.

The Jungle Cruise desperately needs freshening up; and maybe a few scenes should change altogether... but I hope they don't fill it with IPs and change the "spirit" of the ride.

Could not agree more. The signature part of Jungle Cruise are the puns and groan worthy jokes! I also love the Jingle Cruise overlay. One of the few rides that gets decorated with the season.I love that they do that and would be really sad if the attraction didn't get into the season anymore.

Please keep the torches down about what I'm going to say.

I think they do need to add some new animatronics into this attraction. As long as it isn't "The Rock", I'm okay with it. The only rocks I want to see should be on the ground. I'm tired of the same old stationery ones. They've got the technology (Avatar), they need to use it.

I keep picturing scenes from The Rundown every time I think about how this movie will end up looking :confused3

I too hope it's more Pirates Franchise-esque and less Haunted Mansion f/Eddie Murphy.

I don't think it's pitchfork worthy, I think it's a valid point

I wouldn't mind the punny jokes so much if the JC operators actually delivered them well. So many times recently I feel like we're either getting yelled at, they are delivering the jokes too quickly and my kids don't catch them at all, or they are so quiet that it's just not funny.

When they started the puns, it made the ride a lot more fun, but now it's getting old.

A refresh would be welcomed by me. The Rock... eh, not so much.

(And yet, we still get a fast pass+ for it every trip!)

They seem waaaay over-confident that this movie is going to do well. Have they even started filming it yet?

What if it flops? Then all of this will have been for nothing.

I also think they need to keep the 1930s exploration theme. What in the world are they thinking trying to contemporize it? The only thing I think would be worth doing with this attraction is advancing the SFX and animatronics but that's it.

I understand that some have gotten them for Haunted Mansion and Big Thunder Mountain too. WHAT are they up to?
If I had to guess, they are taking the most popular classic rides and trying to figure out how to monetize them more. Pirates is a huge merchandise driver. Arguably, some of these other rides were/are more popular but don't merchandise anywhere near as well. So I'm guessing they want to find a way to make them brands, instead of simply rides. Skipper's Canteen seems to be working out, so maybe a HM restaurant will work. Or if the story behind Pirates provides the merchandising, then perhaps adding a full story to JC through a movie and ride upgrades or TM will increase the sales opportunity.

Just my guess of course, but I'd think what they see with the Pirates and Star Tours retail opportunities has them trying to expand on the concept.
