June 27, 2013 - Magic in the Med (Venice)

Since I am cruising with dgs without my dh I will be at Palo's by myself. I have no problem with this but if someone would like to join me since the table will be for 2, then let me know.

When we did the Baltic, several DISers got together and did a Palo Brunch on one of the sea days - we had enough that we were able to reserve the private room. It was so fun and what a treat - I'd never been to Palo before because DH doesn't want to go. Are you planning to do Palo for dinner or something else? Do they have a tea?

I'm good with trying to get a group brunch together but we need 12-14 people. There is a tea but I was not impressed. Brunch is my favorite and then dinner. I am going to try and get both and then I can cancel dinner if I decide not to do it.

I think I remembered reading that they've discontinued the tea. Just brunch and dinner now.

I had heard that too:thumbsup2

I only went to Palo Tea once, on our 2008 EB PC repo cruise...
it was an interesting experience:rolleyes1

We had a really huge DIS group on that sailing and during the planning a joke was started about the guys crashing the Wenches Palo Tea with a speedo parade...
Well they decided to follow through and the results were very funny:lmao::rotfl2:

I would love to see photos of this. FUNNY :rotfl:

:yay: We got our pre-cruise night in Barcelona :cool1:

.

There will be only one other large cruiseship in port with us in Dubrovnik (see http://www.portdubrovnik.hr/girica1.php ). So hopefully the town won't be overrun :)
Also it looks like while the other ship will get there about 2 1/2 hours ahead of us, they are leaving a few hours ahead of us as well.

We decided on the Renaissance Barcelona.

Sure hope the rest of our shore excursions are up soon. I am getting excited!!!

We are staying there one night post cruise also. Pre cruise we will be at the Hilton Diagonal Mar. At the time we made reservations the Renaissance fore pre cruise was full through Disney and we needed 2 rooms as there are 6 of us.

I deleted the post because I was upset that I had double posted on the spread sheet but figured out how to fix it myself

YAY ME :yay:
.

Where are you staying?

Renaissance

No DCL pre-cruise excursions.
The leaders of the post cruise excursions are on the ship. :confused3
They can lead excursions on disembarkation day because it is embarkation day and they are in Barcelona. But the day the ship is on the way back from Malta
for some odd reason :scratchin
:upsidedow they are not in Barcelona.
Go figure :crazy2:

SO
Now I have to figure out how to get tickets for a good price to Sagrada Familia and how to get there from the hotel. :worried: I found a website--a ticket-tron--go figure :rotfl2:
but do I want a headset?
or a guide?
no--I just want in the door and free reign to roam

And a way to get there and get back without getting lost.

I am not the most adventurous sort.

When we were there last time you really could not roam. There was a rope and you just walked through the church. We bought our tickets there.

We are planning to use the HOHO for both transportation and sightseeing in Barcelona and will buy our Sagrada Familia tickets ahead of time for The day after we arrive which will be the day before we sail.

What is everyone planning to do on their arrival day? After a night flight and very little sleep not sure whether to start with important sites or less important sites.:confused3

That's good to hear about the other ships:thumbsup2
I think there is supposed to be a festival while we are there:confused3

A friend posted a website to me for buying tickets to Sagrada Familia
But it only allowed sales up to end of March :confused3

:thumbsup2 us too
I am just hoping to keep everyone awake on the first day and I think it was you (or someone else) that told me that scheduling anything anything the first day was risky as any plane delays could interfere:confused3
So HoHo bus for the first day and the Sagrada Familia, the Towers and the Gaudi Museum the next day (day before the cruise).
Maybe we'll see you on the bus:thumbsup2

Looking to keep us busy enough on the day we arrive to stay awake, but nothing really important scheduled so not to run the risk of plane delays causing stress.
The next day (6/26) is when we will do most of our sightseeing...mostly Gaudi I think. Trying to talk the DH (Darren) into a segway tour:rolleyes1

As much as we would like to hang out with y'all in Barcelona, we will be saving y'all all a spot on the ship :) but yes, our experience has been to not plan something for arrival day that has a specific time in case of delay or in case family members just need to rest. Our plan is to arrive, get situated with the hotel and hope we can get into our room right away. If so, we will rest a couple of hours, shower, etc., and the. Explore on foot near the hotel. We will hoho bus the next day and also see the sagrada familia, purchasing our tix ahead of time. We will have a day on Barcelona when we get back but will decide what to do while in BVN the first time.

Forgot you had the back to back cruises

Good advice:thumbsup2
I recall from the Baltic cruise that someone advised to try and stay out in the sunshine during the first day of a transatlantic flight. She had tickets to a play her first day in London and was struggling to keep her eyes open in the dark of the theater.
