Hi everyone, it's getting so close now. My wife and I live just 12 miles from Newcastle upon Tyne, 8 miles from Durham and 3.5 miles from Beamish. So if we can answer any questions about the Newcastle stop, please just ask.

We have a private tour scheduled for Newcastle and would love to know what we should focus on! Thanks!

There's so much to see and do it's difficult to know where to start. Have you hired a driver who's going to take you where you want to go? I gather you have two teenage sons?

North of Newcastle is Northumberland, a land of coastline, countryside and castles, notably Bamburgh and Alnwick where some of Harry Potter was filmed. There's also Alnwick garden and many other stately homes etc. there's also the Roman sites along Hadrians wall.

Newcastle itself is a bustling city with a lovely quayside area. I'd just ask for a drive through to see the highlights.

South of the city is County Durham. Durham city is beautiful with a perfect Norman cathedral. Beamish is near and is a living museum showing the history of the area from its coal mining and farming roots through the years to the fifties. They've dismantled period buildings brick by brick and rebuilt them as a town. It has working trams, steam trains, buses etc and people in character in costume, telling their tales. It's a great place and you could spend your entire day there.

If you're interested in the Christian faith there's an interesting trail from Lindisfarne (Holy island) through Northumberland and on to Durham. Following the paths of St Bede and St Cuthbert that may be of interest.

Let me know if any of this appeals and I'll see what I can do to help.

This all sounds great! Beamish sounds really interesting! Hadrian's wall too! Thanks so much for this great info!

Yep, our family are coming to see us at the port, we will go out for lunch (it's Father's Day in the UK). And then they will wave us off. Just sad our 4 year old granddaughter can't come onboard for a peek!

Where in Tx are you?
