June 14, 2011 - Father's Day on the Wonder in ALASKA!

Ok - here is another project I'm working on right now that needs to get wrapped up pretty soon.

We have a point and shoot camera but it seems like a good time to upgrade to a SLR camera with an optional zoom lens. Any one have any advice or a camera they love that is pretty easy to use?

If someone has the address for Eric and Jason's blog, would like to have it. I have looked at Allears too and see the first one from today. This is exciting!

We have a Nikon D90 that we just took on a long trip and the photos are fantastic. Much better than our Canon point and shoot, although the Canon is so much easier to carry around. We'll probably bring both on the cruise, since the SLR is too cumbersome to carry all the time.

Hey ya'll !! from Sunny and Hot Mobile, AL. :cool1:

This is our first cruise ever. We are so totally excited and can not wait to set sail upon the Disney Wonder. :cheer2: I am travelling with my Mother in law and my 2 girls (ages 6 and 7).

Looking for Fish Extender info, what to pack, what to do, and all that jazz.

Look forward to seeing ya all on board.
Jenn

Hi, Jenn. Glad you are joining us on the cruise!

I'm sorry to say that we had set a deadline for announcing participation in the FE (4/10) that had already passed by the time you joined the thread. As long as there are no objections, I can add you to the list, and provide same to you...however, I can't make any assurances as to which (if any) participants might be able to have gifts for your stateroom, given that many have already started/completed their items.

Existing participants, I leave this for you to make your own individual determinations. It would be too complex at this point to get a "majority rules" vote.

I would need to have a PM from you (which means you need a minimum of 10 posts to send), with names and stateroom # for all participants. You've already given kids' ages. Also, if you want the spreadsheet version of the list, you would need to include your e-mail address in the PM.

In any case, we are glad that your family will be joining us on the cruise!

I'm avidly reading both of the blogs (Eric & Jason's and the Allears one) that were posted about on the Alaska thread -- can't wait to hear all about the cruise. Is there another one out there???

Erik & Jason's blog is interesting for me on another level, as they are on our September Dream B2B sailing...and a part of our discussion thread.

Yay!!! I hear ours are in the mail. Guess I have to wait a day or two more, but I'm happy just knowing that they went out. :)

Spoke to my travel agent on Tuesday...she had already called DCL, and our docs were sent (regular mail) to the travel agency. Patiently waiting for a call back indicating that they were received.... :surfweb:

:rotfl::rotfl:Weedy:got the link to work this morning

and i found where you had posted it in another thread and that one worked also. Good reading and pictures are great, except now i can't sleep at night
because i'm too excited:cool1::rotfl2:

The pictures do give me a better indication of what types of clothes to bring - best get some of my winter things out of storage :scared1:
i do have some "wintery" things not packed away, so i should be good. if not, i'll be the one whose teeth are chattering all the time

hope everyone has a great weekend!

I have to share a funny story: we had a meeting to pick up documents for my son's senior cruise on Carnival today...I went through the packet looking for the luggage tags, shook everything out, turned over all of the paperwork, and nothing:confused3...so, I actually start listening to the talk-and guess what-we have to make our own tags:rotfl: one of the sheets stapled in our packet are the luggage tags which we have to cut out and staple to the luggage:lmao: Wow-Disney really has me spoiled! Anyway, since I'm the chaperone, and I have been to these ports on Disney, if one of the seniors misses the boat-I've been nominated to stay behind and get us back to the states. Hopefully, we won't be taking pictures of the back of the boat and I'll get to put real luggage tags on my suitcase soon:goodvibes

Nice to see that Carnival has moved into the modern era. You're right, though...it's a good comparison to show just how well we have it on DCL!

To all of the moms, we wish you a happy and enjoyable Mothers' Day!!!

Sorry, I'm not on here much, DH is reading the emailed updates to me. Liam is graduation 8th grade & getting confirmed. Patrick is in Spring b-ball & there seems to be something happening every day & night. We also have to go to a family reunion in San Fran the weekend for the cruise--:scared:

Scott had unexpected back surgery for a bulging disc that deteriorated FAST. Now he can't zipline, whitewater raft, & who knows what else until he does his physical therapy.

Replying to what I think I read:

Nikon D90 or any Nikon DSLR using the automatic feature is fantastic, but can be a bit cumbersome. If you have time to find a friend who can teach you a little bit about it & you can practice w/it you'll learn how to use some of the features.

I am fine w/ adding another person to the FE!

Thanks for all the info & links. I really appreciate them. :flower3:

We fly into Victoria on the 11 after my 16yo son graduates from High School, then we head over to Vancouver to board the Wonder on the 14th.

Besides fathers day and my son's graduation we are celebrating a major birthday for my Wife. Our youngest daughter just turned 10 so their will be four of us on the trip.

This is our second cruise with Disney as we took a short 3 day one a few years back.

We have room 7136.

Anyone travelling on the Wonder to Alaska on the Jun14-21, 11??? We'd like to do a Fish Extender Group. Let me know. Thanx.:cool1:

Hi to all the new folks just joining us on the thread! Welcome!

We have three weeks left of school and they are jam packed - which means i can't think about packing for Alaska til school is over. Plus these boys are GROWING right now which means they have about outgrown the pants that they have - they live in shorts from mid-April to mid-October, but for going to Alaska, that means I need to be sure they have pants that fit. And extra shoes.

I've been studying Google Maps for Vancouver to get my bearings, and we found the closest Cupcakes shop to the hotel - it was on a TV show so we wanted to go by to see it - it's a 10-15 minute walk from the hotel.

Thanks for the links to the blogs. I had scouted out AllEars this week and saw some good photos including a cute Mickey totem pole that I HAVE to get :) And of course the t-shirts. Adding money to my souvenir budget :)

The exchange rate for US to Canadian is about even right now. Hopefully it will stay that way or improve for the US dollar since we'll be in Vancouver for a few days. I think we are going to do the big bus tour (or something similar) while there for two days and just wing it as for what we see and do.

We have a couple from here that are also sailing with us but they never did get on DISBoards to post, but I've told them they should come to the Meet and Greet. Someone remind me what time/location that is...
