July 28, 2007 - Romeancing the Mouse in the Med Cruise Reunion thread!

Ok the questions were genuine -but I must confess I saw a pirate coming - Old habits die hard
:rolleyes1

pirate: We'll call you Captain Inquisitive??????:rotfl: :rotfl:

I'll do my best with the questions.
1. Best place to buy tix - You can go to to Broadway.com or ticketmaster.com. There is also a booth right in the heart of the theatre district (can't think of the name -having a senior moment, help Julie) where you can buy half-price tickets for shows that day.

2. Jet Blue airline is usually one of the cheapest as is Delta from NY to FLA. Check both JFK airport or LaGuardia - one is on the south shore and the other is on the north shore about equi-distant from NYC

3. Actually, the taxi's flag YOU down if you're not careful.:lmao: :lmao: Actually, just put up your hand and you shouldn't have any problem. They've instituted taxi stands in busy places. No problem, don't worry.

4. Top 5 things, this is a toughie. The usually touristy ones are: Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island, Empire State Building, South Street Seaport, St. Patricks Cathedral and Rockefeller Center (where they light the tree each year), and of course 5th Avenue with all the high end shops. Then there's Times Square where all the theatres are (that's where they drop the New Year's Eve Ball from, -only 5 Helen??????

Julie knows NYC so well so I'm sure she can help you more than I did.

How exciting!!!! Can't wait to see you!!!!!

Helen,

What's this about DCL opening an office in London????? First I've heard of it. Tell me more......

Congrats, Helen! pirate: There are also several websites where you can obtain broadway tix, just do a search and you'll find them!

Ok Some questions for the new yorkers

Where is the best place to buy tickets for a broadway show?

Playbill.com has all the listings and links to the official show sites; also if you sign up as a member you can get discounts to some shows -- not the most popular, and not a lot in advance, though. If you want to get something like Wicked that is very popular, you just go to the official site (link through the Broadway listings on playbill.com) well, well in advance (a year in advance is not too much). You can also find more last-minute discounts and some information (reviews by regular people, for example) on broadwaybox.com.

What is the best airline to fly from NY to WDW?

I really like Virgin Atlantic to fly to and from the UK, although you might want to just keep an eye out for the best price since many carriers fly direct between JFK and Gatwick or Heathrow.

Ok Some questions for the new yorkers

Is it easy to flag down a taxi? Never done that before ever;)

Very easy -- if they have the middle light on, with their taxi ID, on the top of the taxi, they are free and will stop if you stick out your hand. If the light is out there is someone already in there. If the middle light and the side lights are on, it is off duty and may or my not stop (may stop to ask if where you are going is on his or her way as they head home).

What is the top 5 things to do?

Touristy things -- probably Empire State Bldg, Statue of Liberty, Rockefeller Center, Central Park, and Metropolitan Museum -- plus the Times Square/Broadway show area . . .

TKTS . . .

Won't be the most popular shows, particularly in the summer, though . . .

Sorry, I just realized you were asking about NYC to WDW -- JetBlue is the best and I fly them all the time.

Thanks Julie, for all the great info.

I am so lucky to have you guys as friends:goodvibes

So who else voted for the first female president tonight? Sorry, I couldn't resist! I guess since I'm the only one in PA, except for Harole Ann, I'm the only one voting!:goodvibes

Hi all,

You guys are so right. I think the group of people we met on that cruise was really special. Everyone was so friendly and laid back. I mean just how big was our meet in the prom lounge - and noone complained. I still laugh when I see paper airplanes and think of the poor cm who was going to give a talk, when we invaded.
It was fun sitting round on deck, chatting. I really appreciated it, travelling with Dave can be hard :lmao: only joking, what I mean is he likes to go off to the gym, run round the jog track and he normally can't keep still, where I like to chillout with a book, or lie in the sun. Having you guys on board was great, I wasn't left alone and I had people to talk too.
Dave and I are really down at the mo, as we arn't coming to the states this year. We spent yesterday planning our holidays until 2011 ( ok it was me really) We are going to see how loing we can get my dad to look after the dogs for next year- hopefully 3 weeks.
Here's our thinking
2009 - Trip to NY, WDW and 7night Eastern cruise
2010 - I have a feeling DCL will come to the med again - especially with them opening a new office in London in 2009. We'll do that! - Anyone up for it?;)
2111 - 2 week trip to WDW (FL) Although might have to try a 4 night cruise on one of the new ships if available.
How sad am I,
:rolleyes1
Oh well it's only 15 months till my next disney holiday
:grouphug:

I really like the way you plan, Helen! I had not heard about the office in London, but did see that Disney signed the contract at Port Canaveral through 2022. They are expanding and modifying the dock including an extension and enlargements and enhancements to the terminal building to allow for additional luggage and passenger capacity with the addition of the two new ships.

I was just wishing that we were going to the Mediterranean this summer because of how much fun we had with all of the planning.

Remember how we posted pictures of our families and when we got on board it was like we recognized everyone immediately---like a family reunion! On the board for November someone said the other day that they hoped they got to see some of the people they were chatting with! Like I said before, our board really spoiled me! There will never be another group like what we have!

We will DEFINITELY do it again if/when DCL comes back to anywhere in Europe . . .

I hope to......it depends if I have any money left after sending my girls to Europe this spring (and visiting them of course), 3 girls in school (although the oldest will be done in January), and upcoming other events (noone better get engaged!)............there may just be a window of opportunity in 2010 for some Europe.......we did book Tortola for next year and that should be fun too!:goodvibes Two of our group is joining us, including Maryann!

We are absolutely IN!!!!! Wouldn't a reunion cruise be great!!!! We would wait until our British friends are done with school. Same time, same place!!!!
:woohoo:
