We live about 90 minutes away. If that. And can you believe that Mother's Day was our first trip? You just need a weekend. Drive up here on Friday night, stay in the big valley (San Joaquin). Then drive in early sat morning. If you can wait a few years, they are building a new Hilton close to me. You could stay there friday night.

My MIL back yard is Joshua Tree NF. We finally went there at Christmas a few years ago. Great time to go, weather is perfect, and the snakes are all asleep. So if anyone is ever in SoCal around Christmas and wants to see some cool trees and great desert flowers, head over there. Also great if you want to go camping in the winter. Night gets cool, but the days are pretty warm. (around 75 or 80)
One year, I realized that we wouldn't be going to Yosemite, so I made a spur-of-the moment decision & booked a night at Curry Village. We left Friday night at 1:30am (or Sat morning), and got to the top of Glacier Point at 7:30am. We got there in time to watch the hand gliders prepare to take off near the geological hut. That was so cool to see. Went home Sunday afternoon, and I think we got home around 3am or so. It was a great weekend, but, boy, by Wednesday I crashed (it was worth it though).

I've never been to Joshua Tree.

Of course... perhaps you think you will be alone with your family at any time to enjoy a quite family moment,or a sip of bubbly without the NEW Porters????? NO WAY!!!!

Great One!!!!!!

Too Hot To Handle!!!! That goes to the top of the list!!!!!!!

Andrew......Thanks for arranging the Pisa reservations.. we have very little time to study the principals of flight.. so anyone joining the
Propeller Pisa Flight Group
...... please study the following....

The Forces of Flight

Maintaining a steady flight requires a balance, often described as an equilibrium of all the forces acting upon an airplane. Weight, lift, thrust and drag are the acting forces on an airplane. Assuming a straight and level flight, lift must be equal to weight and drag must be equal to thrust. This is what happens if this equilibrium is violated:

If lift becomes greater than weight, then the propeller will accelerate upward.

If the weight is greater than the lift, then the propeller will accelerate downward.

When the thrust becomes greater than the drag, the propellerwill accelerate forward.

If drag becomes greater than the thrust a deceleration will occur.

Acceleration is best explained by using Newton's Second Law of Motion.

There will be a bottle of the good stuff on first night, and if you do not bring your hat you can have a glass!

Now Pisa, we couldnt go there and look, and without every one flying up, the kids would be most upset to 'look' I am sure Carley will think the same as my kids, if its there climb it!!

Apart from Rome this will be the biggest day. We will get back at 6pm!!

PS

Rule for climbing the Tower at pisa

  • You must leave your luggage at the bottom.
  • You must not eat up to 12 hours before to ensure it doesnt topple over.
  • You must take your left shoe off to counter balance the angle.

So no topsiders am!!!

Ok- serious question.. does anyone have those hydration backpacks I've been looking- its a backpack with a water storage bag, and a long straw thing. Jimmy says it will be too heavy to carry, and the water has no way of keeping cool... If anyone has one or has tried one, please let me know if it is worth the expense and the weight. thanks:thumbsup2

You can buy these at a good sporting goods store. The big name brand is Camel Back. The largest we could find was a 3 liter, which only weighs 9 lbs. But the way it is designed you don't even feel it. The water actually does stay cool, and you can freeze them or fill with ICE if you wanted.

We love ours, but they can run from 50 to 100 dollars.

Wow - Just friday we were talking about 200 or so posts to 10000, and now you guys have posted 800 posts. Did you guys do nothing over the weekend?

DH worked on Saturday. Today is our 13th Anniversary, we celebrated by mowing the lawns yesterday. Actually we have been planning for our trip south next weekend. The boys are going to spend a few weeks with Grandma. Jon will fly down to Palm Springs on the 14th to pick them up.

The worst part is 450 miles each way, and i don't even get to see a sign that says Anaheim on it. We are going to leave Sunday afternoon to come back. :sad2:

Well - I have lots of work to do today, and perhaps later i can ketchup.

I see some new tags, they look great. i will have to get out my doc and start adding them.
Congratulations.

Hi Anna,
When you sit down to do it have your passports, credit card, flight schedule and emergency contact info in front of you. It took me about 20-25 minutes but I kept getting up to get something else. It's a lot calmer doing it at home then in the terminal with my kids hovering over my shoulder.

Thank you. Will get it done first chance I get or as soon as I know if my son is officially hired or not.

Today was the third step. They went from 160 applicants, second step about 60 and today third step - down to about 30. Now they do the paperwork, test tomorrow and an agency does the background check. I might just wait two more weeks and hopefully will know by then.

And here I thought she/he was on Florida coast time... (there is a he fairy, too)

Looks like West coast time, and also she/he took out my English part of my 'Please stand clear of the doors' leaving the Spanish/Hispanic version!!

With an extra piratepirate:

And we are going to Spain!!!!

She must like the language.

Bet the 'he' tag fairy isnt as good looking as the female ones!!

They sell them at REI too. My husband got one for climbing out of the Grand Canyon. I'll have to ask him how comfortable it was. It think he got the Camel back.

HAPPY ANNIVERSARY CARRIE & JOHN. ENJOY!!!!!!

So if I decorate my luggage in lime green flagging, will I be able to pick it out when leaving the ship? Or will everyone be also decorating their luggage in lime green to better able them to pick theirs out from the hall full of luggage?

I could say the same to you and many others on our thread here. We really have a great group! :goodvibes

Everyone has pulled together on this thread to make it a memorable one, from Helen organizing the light show and meal, to Klya with the Lanyards, TO Sallies pre meet BBQ, the fun on the pirate: posts,to the photos, logo/banner, ideas and weblinks, and it even has made JULIE NICE to me (occasionally when I do not mention her legs):thumbsup2

Then theres the TP, generously supplied, by Mrs G, and the odd hot flash!

THANK YOU TO EVERYONE!!!

Good point maybe we should stick to Lime green for just our carryons and ourselves. Can you imagine almost 300 people with lime green tags on their luggage. At least most of us know each other now so when we have to send luggage to each other we'll know who it belongs to.:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:
