JULY 2024 WISH Thread - Sunny Summertime ☀️

Motivation for me this week is to get out early and get my steps in because there is not much I can tolerate after 10am here lately. Our real feel temp is 106 right now…it will be the same tomorrow.

The end of the week looks ok though-85-ish so that’s a big improvement!

I started the week off strong with a few times around the block early in the morning and a 30 minute YouTube video. Hoping to close my move ring today!

Motivation this week is to keep my cool…literally and figuratively. My partner in crime started her new job and I am working hard at not getting too jealous. It was hard though while she was texting me pics of her welcome to the company pic on their intranet and I was fielding questions from teams who should know the answers already and dealing with my unit manager who has never been through an app upgrade and is very all over the place. I had to wanted to hit the gym but my pre-lunchtime meetings ran over then I had to schedule one for 4 when that is typically when I sign off. While feeling frustrated I blocked off my calendar, marched myself downstairs, and did 20 mins on the treadmill to try to get the frustration out. It helped. Tomorrow my day is nutty so hoping I can squeeze in a couple mins.

Well done you!

You have me inspired to get out for pre-work walks.

TUESDAY TOPIC: SKIN CARE

1721091876948.png

I've mentioned a couple times that I've been working on my skin care routine, and Caroline Hirons (pictured above) is a major inspiration and key source of information. Below are some of her top tips:

Cleanse: do a light cleanse in the morning and a double cleanse in the evening: first evening cleanse use an oil or balm to take off makeup, spf, etc and second cleanse use a milk or cream: morning you can use either type of cleanser. Use a washcloth and plenty of water to wash everything off. Never use face wipes, they just smear stuff around.

SPF: use something that is 30+ in coverage. Apply between moisturizer and foundation. Use a separate SPF product, as there is not enough coverage from the SPF when included in other products.

Be willing to invest in quality products - you are worth it!

Eat well, drink your water and get plenty of sleep - and don't smoke.

The most basic product line up should include: your cleansers, eye cream, moisturizer, SPF. From there the sky is the limit... if there even is a limit!

What is your skin care routine like? Any areas you'd like to improve? Any favorite products or product lines?

I agree with you about water, sleep, and not smoking being the best things for your skin!

Also sunscreen if I'm planning to be out without shade for a while.

I don't really use special face cleaners different than my regular soap. I've tried, but couldn't get into a good routine.

Now that it's summer, I need to be better about lotion for my legs and feet.

I used to use Clinique products, then I had a facial at the spa at Mohegan Sun about 21 years ago. It was there that I was introduced to Elemis skincare, and I never turned back. I love the pro-collagen marine line of products. I don't really have wrinkles yet, just that line between my eyebrows.

My mother had terrible wrinkles at my age, but she was a smoker, so even though she took care of her skin, the smoking undid all of that effort. Fortunately I never smoked and I do drink a lot of water.

I've always been a cosmetics girlie and used everything Lancome for many years, because I thought having all the bottles match was so chic. But I was inconsistent about actual skin health, it was more about covering up the problems than solving them.

Since finding Caroline a little over a year ago I've gotten much more consistent, and thru her Skin Freaks FB group I've learned so much from other skin care fanatics, including introductions to new products and how to best use things. The picture below shows the products in my current rotation. Everything isn't used every day, but I usually have six or seven products on my face any given day. You can see that in my typical ADHD way I've gone way overboard! But it is paying off with much better skin quality, so yah for that.

I do well with enough water and sleep, I just need to get the eating well part figured out.

I don't really have a great skin care routine, but have always had decent skin for some reason. I think part of it that I have a round-ish face and wrinkles just don't seem to pop up as much on my face type.

I do good with the water and not smoking. I am working on the eating and I've started trying to get more sleep. I'm tired of always being tired! DH is one of those people who doesn't require as much sleep. I always used to stay up with him, but I've started going to bed before him to try to get more sleep. Not 100% there yet, but I'm working toward getting enough sleep!

My WooHoo is that I'm going to eat lunch with DD2 today. We've been trying to meet up for awhile now and something has always come up for one of us. I'm thinking today is the day!!

That being said, it was supposed to be yesterday, but about 9:00, they had some higher-ups at another location in her company come in and they had to take them out to lunch, so our lunch was postponed until today. So, I hate to WooHoo too early, but it's getting close enough I think it's actually going to happen!

Woohoo... I've had my first dahlia bloom, a hold-over started from seed last year. And a bloom from a tuber purchased this year isn't far behind.

Woohoo... the weather forecast has high 60's - low 70s for the next ten days.

Kind of woohoo... our Pilates teacher is back from her year in New Zealand and my first class is this afternoon. I say "kind of" because it's going to kick my behind, but it'll be good, really it will be.

Our heat wave is over!!!
Same! Did you get the huge thunderstorms last night? OMG. Not only did they wake me up, at one point in the bathroom, I thought the lightning was going to come right through the window while I was washing my hands. Lots of trees down in our neighborhood. We were very fortunate. No trees or any real damage except for a few plants knocked over, an outdoor rug flipped over, and flying flip flops. We only lost power for a quick blip.

Popping by to see some old pals... if you remember me. How are you all doing?
I do remember you! It's nice to hear from you again :goodvibes And I'm doing well today. How are things with you?

I did hear thunder at one point, but thankfully no damage here. I forgot to take in one of those canvas folding chairs, and the seat was full of water this morning, so I could tell the plants got watered well.

I'm out with one of the cats at the moment, and it's starting to get hot, but definitely later than it did the last few days, and the air just feels fresher.

First off, I'm thankful that those who experienced storms last night are reporting in as being OK.

I am also thankful to be back at doing Pilates, really, I am. It was interesting that my body remembered what it was even f it couldn't do all of it. Best of all is that I had really good movement in my shoulder, so the red-light therapy is making a difference.

I am also thankful that the red-light therapy is finally making a difference in my feet as well. The first couple of weeks they were very angry as the nerves started to wake up and re-activate, but in the past couple days something has shifted and I'm excited to see how much they can/will heal.
