July 2014 car rentals *helpful codes in first post*

Alamo seems to have dropped their rates. I previously had a car reserved for $302. Just rechecked and with the free day coupon and the united corporate id, it dropped to $246!! If that's where it stays I'll be happy but hoping for an additional drop.

What's the free day coupon code? Does it work for all classes?

I think it does work with all classes, well compact and above.

AF5365ODH

But I think you have to use it with a corporate id. I've used the united airlines id but the free day saved me $20.
I'm not renting in MCO.

Hope that helps.

Is this a good rate? $506.25 estimated through Budget for a standard size car (Chrysler 200) for 18 days no options, no insurance.
Thanks a bunch for any information.

Is it ID 7014135 that you are using? I found it for mileage plus members. I'll add it to the front page.

I haven't found anything yet. I am looking for a full size or possibly a minivan. I always book with Alamo for the free extra driver. I believe Hertz and Budget allows a spouse for free, but I have never used them, because Alamo has always come out cheaper. Thrifty and Dollar charge per day for the additional driver. I have found good deals at Dollar and Thrifty, but once you add in the $10/day for the extra driver, it adds $100 + tax to the bill which doesn't make the price a good deal anymore. ;)

I just received an email from Alamo that says they are discontinuing their free 2nd driver. Just another twist in finding a decent rental car company...

Looking for a rental from July 17-22 midsize or larger. As of now my cheapest deal is with Dollar at MCO for $187.91 includes fees and taxes.

Still shopping around for a better deal :thumbsup2

Did you use any codes for this or was it a city special?
We are a family of 5. I have a SUV for $335 national KLM code. I would love to get under $200 but we like the extra room since we are staying offsite.
How did my family of 5 ever survive in my parents little dodge omni?! We are spoiled

Here's an Alamo tip that might save a few dollars if you're renting a "perfect" number of days - ie. Pickup / drop-off at the exact same time:

Try adding a half or full hour.

On my rental of a one week plus one day, if I add an hour, the weekly and day rate drop and they drop more than the cost of the extra hour.

Right now, with a Premium (cheaper than a Standard and Fullsize right now) from 7/4-7/13 pick up at 3pm, the $30 off coupon ( 860292 ) and my AP CID (although Insider is just as good, I think):

Drop off at 3pm: $301.32 (Weekly $247.83, Daily $34.50)
Drop off at 4pm: $296.24 (Weekly $235.19, Daily $33.60, Hourly $6.72)

Same parameter but for Midsize:
Drop off at 3pm: $254.66 (W: $209.12, D: $29.87)
Drop off at 4pm: $250.87 (W: $198.46, D: $28.35, H: $5.67)

These rates are bit higher than when I booked a while ago - I got a Fullsize 7/4 3pm - 7/12 4pm for $231.55 and a Standard for $219.22.

Can anybody absapositivley confirm that a Standard reservation picks from the same Alamo cars as a Fullsize reservation, BTW?

I used a City special code from Dollar for the rate, no other discounts at this time but I'm still shopping around! I know what you mean about wanting room. My theory is I want to drive something similar in size as what I drive at home, but don't want to pay tons for a rental that cost more then my monthly car payment! Still shopping to see if I can get a lower price ... Believe it or not I get the cheapest prices a few days before we leave but doesn't hurt to start early!

I'm not giving up. I check daily and I will continue to check up until the night before we leave! I love a good challenge =) If the price is right, I might go with a full size car and cancel the SUV.

Not sure whats going on with the rental cars right now.
We have a midsize booked with Alamo July 5-19 and have been watching and re-booking as the price dropped for the past several weeks.
Started out at $417 (taxes incl) and has steadily been dropping to $234 on Thursday morning Using Costco codes.
Friday morning, rates more than doubled to $515 and checked several other companies (Budget, Dollar, National, Hertz, Avis) and all are this price or even higher.
Is anyone else seeing these crazy prices?
Don't get me wrong, I'm quite happy with $234 for 2 weeks, but what kind of games are the rental companies playing with the prices at the moment?
We are 4 weeks out so there's still time to see plenty of price drops so we'll continue to monitor.

Is any type of membership needed for the car and driver code for National? That is the best rate for my 5 day mini-van rental I am finding for 7/9 to 7/14.

Looking for a decent rate for 7/3 - 7/7. Have a compact for $133 with Alamo. Hoping for something better.

No, there codes are published quite often in Car and Driver magazine for any reader to use.
Try both codes (XVC1092, XVC1093) usually one is better than the other and both give you a free additional driver.

I have an Economy car for 6 days, July 10-16, with Budget for $192 using the "Up to 40% Off" W810011 and the "$25 Off a Weekly" MUWZ107.
Is this good? I was hoping for better, but I haven't been to Orlando in July before, so my expectations might be out of whack. :confused3

Not sure if any of you are flying/sailing out of Tampa, but i just got a full-size through Alamo for $36.09 with all fees included for a week.

We are flying into TPA on 6/28 and out on 7/13. We are sailing on Carnival Paradise from July 3-7 and the rest of the time will be at WDW. Originally we had a Alamo ressie for a compact for $265 for the entire trip and we were going to pay to park at the port.

Because of the great rates we got today, we are going to do 2 rentals - one before and one after the cruise:

1) June 28 - July 3
Payless - pick up TPA, drop off TPA (will need to get cab to port)
$68.17 ($7.00 a day + fees - discounts)
Last minute special + Promo code RKF017 + perks discount
Compact

2) July 7-13
Alamo - pick up Westin Tampa (free shuttle from port), drop off TPA
$ 36.09 ( $50.46 a week + fees - discounts)
Used Costco ID 7014627 & $30 Visa Coupon AD2338FDF
Fullsize

We are still hoping to get a different rental car co for the first leg of the trip. We have used Payless before and not had a problem but would prefer an on airport location.

I am very happy with this. We went from $325 ($265 + $60 in parking fees) to $130 ($104 + one way cab far to port).
