July 2014 car rentals *helpful codes in first post*

I was just able to re-book from Alamo to Avis and saves $150 on a premium car from 6/30-7/14, Used Avis's Costco code and a $40 off coupon to get the rental for $386 after tax for the trip! Very happy with the price. Just wish it were with Alamo or National.

I have a pay now rate at Budget of $352.55 before taxes and fees ($454 after), for a 9 day rental of a minivan. Is this a good rate, and is it likely to go down? this is from my hometown airport location.

Thanks

I have made and cancelled 11 reservations since early May. I now just booked my lowest to date.
Dollar mid-size Avenger (MCO to MCO) for June 27 to July 4 for all taxes & fees included= $187.51

I am HAPPY with this. Used:

Use promo code 5MF01 at Dollar to get 15% off weekly rentals of a Compact through Premium car. Offer available for pickups through 7/31/14 at participating FLORIDA locations.

I started out around $260 for the week back in May......down to $187

I just booked thru Firefly at MCO terminal July 26 thru Aug 2 for a mid size $156
including all taxes and fees. (unlimited mileage)

Through the Costco site you can get a midsize for $173 inc taxes with Budget or Alamo and free additional driver. Dollar charges $10 a day for additional driver.

Check out carreentalsavers.com. Alamo and Enterprise price drop the past 2 days. I initially had full size @ $333 from National with KLM, rebooked yesterday @ $268 Alamo, rebooked today @ $211 Alamo - July 13-July 24, we are flying into Sanford.

I also checked from MCO for same time period, a little higher but still a decent rate @$244 for the full size from Alamo.

Keep checking, the prices are coming down.

I have a 2 week + 2 day rental coming up at the end of July, picking up and dropping off at different locations. This morning I noticed AAA/CAA codes will give a discount, which at the moment is giving me the best rate by far. You add your relevant location's ID to the corporate field. I'm down to a base rate of $140 a week, and hoping it to drop even more. http://www.dollar.com/Business/D4BMain/Corporate/AAA_CAA_CD_Numbers.aspx

What codes did you use and what is the base rate you're getting?

Check your reservation carefully. You may be getting a good base rate but Dollar/Thrifty are notorious for sneaking in an additional line in your ressie with a drop charge for one-way rentals (especially when using discount/corp codes).
You may find your rate after fees and taxes is more than one with a higher base rate from a different rental car company.

Here's my current example we are looking for a one-way from MIA to MCO after our cruise in July. Our dates July 11-19. Dollar has an awesome AAA base rate of $92 but after fees, taxes and $110 one-way drop charge the total comes out to $321.
Alamo, on the other hand, has a base rate of $129 (but no one-way fee) so total with fees and taxes comes out to $233... almost $90 less

Yes, I'm aware that some rental companies charge a drop fee. In my case, even with the fee of $35, the bottom line is with Dollar, my total is $480. The best price on Alamo is $1070. The other major, and even minor rental companies are close to Alamo's rates, or higher. I expect the rates to drop as the date gets closer, but if not, I can live with this price.

The website gives you the Total Price guarantee, I don't have the breakdown. As far as codes, those are pre-populated by the carrentalsavers website as well.

Just booked a very impromtu trip to Orlando this morning as my mother is ill. We leave Wed July 2 and return July 14. I have never booked travel so quickly! But, I got decent flights on southwest and just booked my rental car. Currently I am booked with Dollar via the AAA special with a full size for 285 all in. More than I normally pay BUT 6 days out over the 4th of July, its not too bad overall for a nearly 12 day rental. Ill be scouring the sites in the next few days to see if I drop lower. I prefer Alamo or National but I did use Dollar in April for our rental and I was pleasantly surprised how well the express membership option of having the car ready for you worked.

I also found Dollar to be the cheapest for my trip over the 4th. I signed up for the Express program and am still waiting for them to send me the membership # so I can add it to the reservation. How does it work when you say they have the car ready for you?

This thread should help you.

But last time I had to add the # to the ressie. Once at MCO we got luggage and went straight to the parking garage. They had our name on a board and they directly right to the car. Easy peasy. Of course I still like to pick my own car better, BUT, anything to avoid the counter lines at MCO! We travel out of there a couple times a year usually and the lines can be horrid!

Make sure you are all checking carrentalsavers.com several times a day, especially late at night. It's a guaranteed rate, you don't pay them, you pay the car rental company at pick up. By far the lowest rates I've seen. No cancellation fees.

Just got my full size Ford Focus last night even lower than a few weeks ago. $155 taxes INCLUDED. For one week, July 30-august 6.

Lowest rate so far that I have locked in is with FireFly . $220. Midsize , out the door from July 31-August 11, total of 11 days. Not thrilled about trying Firefly, but they have gotten some good reviews latey, and they are in the terminal (unlike Fox).

I am renting for 16 days, and the Dollar AAA rate is still the cheapest. I just rebooked again this morning and I'm currently at $345 total for a midsize, plus this rental has no fee for returning to a different location. This is still a month away for my dates, so I'm hopeful they'll drop even more.

I just made a 2nd ressie at Firefly. They are sitting at 215 this morning for my dates vs the 285 with the Dollar AAA rate. Im not sure Im going to use it. The reviews for firefly are less than desirable, PLUS I have to go to the counter which I despise. Ill keep checking.
