July 2014 car rentals *helpful codes in first post*

Firefly is the Hertz budget brand so they are backed by a decent company. They may get the higher mileage cars from Hertz or the slightly older models but should be pretty decent product at least. Customer service is on a different model (budget/consumer) vs Hertz slightly upscale Business model.

Alamo prices are down this morning on car rental savers with the free day coupon. It seems to work with any other discount codes like Master Card, ect.

So far this is the best deal I have found for our stay 7/29-8/6
Dollar
5MF03 $150.99/wk mid size SUV valid for pickups til 7/31 ymmv

Wow I just got a full size from Budget through car rental savers.com for $318 all in for July 12-26. That is a CRAZY good deal!!

THANK YOU for posting!

I have been trying all day to book a car rental using the KLM code. It kept telling me that there were no vehicles available (trying to book for later in July as well as December!) I finally called Fly Blue (KLM) and they told me they have discontinued their partnership with National:worried: Sure enough when I checked both National and KLM - neither listed the other as a partner! I'm bummed - the KLM code always saved me money.:(

Nm I obv don't know how priceline works! Oops

If you are a state or federal government employee, do an internet search for discounts. I was able to save an additional $50 at Alamo.com through a link for government employee leisure travel. I need a minivan in Anaheim for 8 nights beginning July 24, and the best rate I found so far was around $535. The government employee link brought it down to $480 booking directly through Alamo.

Glad I booked this rate when I found it because the quotes are now $800+ for minivans during this timeframe. I guess the waiting for prices to drop strategy doesn't always work out for the minivan category. I would assume that is a result of less inventory in that category overall than the car categories.

Does anyone know, if you are a Budget Fastbreak member and reserve online with carrentalsavers, can you still still use the Fastbreak line at the Budget counter? Does renting through carrentalsavers slow down the process at all? It's only saving me a few dollars so I don't want to do it if it takes more time at the counter.

Also, on Budget, when/where do I add an additional driver? I just made 2 ressies, one through carrentalsavers and one through Budget.com, and neither time could I find where to enter my husband as an add'l driver. Maybe it's just too late for me to be doing this and I'm too tired to see where to enter him. :confused3

You could probably call Budget and have your Fastbreak added to the reservation. Is there an option to modify your carrentalsavers through Budget and add your DH or Fastbreak?

On the Budget website it says you can add a driver at the counter.

For my vacation picking up at MCO dropping off at TPA at the end of July (just over two weeks to go) through mid August 16 days the best price I found is Alamo through Costco. Mid size $387.98 total including additional driver.

I got my two week rental down to $310 for full size for 14 days through car rental savers and Budget.

I just saw the first price drop via Costco since I re-booked two weeks ago.

Budget
Intermediate
7/27-8/3
$181.08

Avis is about $5 more. I haven't rented from MCO in nine years. Is it worth paying $5 more to go with Avis? Which is better?

I just wanted to report back from our June into July trip. We booked through Costco A Budget mid size car. This was the first time we booked with Budget. We have always booked with Alamo or National. We had no problems at all the pick up was easy we went directly to the garage. The car was a Kia Forte plenty big enough for the 3 of us. My husband checked it over before we left asking the attendant to make note of a few scratches which he did. No problem. There was a paper noting previous damage, scratches etc in the trunk. Return was also simple drive in And that's it. Well worth 153.00 for 10 days. Would I use them again yes. I do prefer picking out my own vehicle however which is the only negative with Budget. Next time when we picked up we would ask if they had another choice of vehicle but all in all a good first time experience at well below the cost of what the other companies wanted!

Thanks for reporting back! Hope you had a good trip. We're booked with Budget, so it's good to hear about a positive experience. I think we'll stay with them unless prices drop more.

Yahooooo!!!! Just saved a bunch on our car rental! I had booked a SUV with Dollar for a total of $252 for our 7/29 to 8/6 (150.99 per week plus a day and taxes) using the code on the first page...

But I just Standard (corolla) for $188 (taxes included) from Alamo with the costco deal!

We are a family of 5 so it will be tight with luggage but a savings of $64 bucks, we will deal with it!!

I plan on spending the savings on Margarita's at La Cava! (we will take the bus to the park that day! hahaha)

I received an email offer from Priceline a few days before our trip. $16 a day for a midsize SUV. I booked it and received a car from Hertz!! $50 cheaper than our previous rental with Dollar.

11 days for $287 total.

It pays to try Priceline a few times, even if you use ridiculously low bids. Then they'll know your dates and what you're looking for... and send you emails with offers for your dates. :)
