July 2011:Calling all planners-Post your dates & Resort

Great buy on the suitcases. We have our KTTW too but from 1996. They were yellow then. What color are yours?

It is a light purple, and it has my maiden name on it!

As for packing ahead... we are not so much that type. :) I have been gathering the little extra items that I am taking into one spot. But, most packing will take place the day we leave for Philly (July 2). I can't so much pack ahead.

I gave my DH the packing cubes I mentioned earlier for his Birthday. He loves the idea of being able to pull them out and put them in the drawers without having to unpack everything individually. So, I ended up ordering more of them since what I bought wasn't quite as big as I expected. But, they still should work great.

We won't get Mickey mail here because we booked through AAA. But, I do love the day we go to visit our TA and pick up all the stuff! :)

Since there will be that many of us at the meet, I think we can forget the idea of small gifts. Just having fun together will be enough ;)

:welcome: Better late than never:lmao: I think Becky on here also has an Illuminations cruise booked.

So, I'm scrolling up backwards since it's been a while and I see my name...at least I'm assuming I'm the Becky you are talking about!! :lmao:

Ours is actually a private Illuminations Dessert party...so Illuminations & desserts are correct just not on a boat. I don't do well on water so that wouldn't make me happy (I would be jittery the whole time! I put on a fake smile and survive for the kids but umm..wouldn't go out of my way to be on a boat/raft/water vehicle of any type).

A request for a photopass photographer for July 20 has been made with Disney. We'll see what they say.

Cool! I am still reading backwards but did see you need a count...ours might be 5 or 6...depends on where my mom is at.
All I can think of her saying is "you are going to meet a bunch of strangers from the internet?" :lmao: I may ditch her with my sister at that point. :rotfl: Or for all I know I will have extras with ME wanting to do the meet.

Do you mind telling me a little more about the dessert party? We are doing the Wishes Dessert Buffet at MK but I didn't know one existed for Illuminations. We are toying with the idea of the cruise for Illuminations, but like you, I'm not sure everyone in my family will be wild about being on a boat at night. I'm assuming they'll like it, but it's a big investment so I want to be sure.

I had a very intense dream last night that we were AT DISNEY --- but I'd forgotten to print all of my planning cards - so i didn't know when to go to what parks - didn't have my ADR's with me to what restaurants to eat at; and I didn't have any of my other fun "stuff" printed out - or t-shirts made; :scared1:

and the worst part!!??? Splash mountain didn't have "logs" anymore - but these strange looking lounge chair things... :headache:

I'm so weird!!!! :lmao:

I had an intense dream about Disney the other night, too! DH and I were on our way and 2 of my friends surprised us at the airport and said, "We're coming on your trip with you!" And the first thing I thought was, 'But all of our ADRs are for TWO people!!!!!!' :scared1:

I woke up in a cold sweat, I kid you not.

We are now under 5 weeks to go. I'm getting excited.

As for packing, I will not start until a couple of days before we leave.

:lmao: That is a very funny dream - going on Splash in lawn chairs would be really scary though!

:rotfl: I know it does seem rather odd doesn't it? But it will be really fun!

I booked right through Disney because we are getting the military room discount (bought our tickets through the base) ... I don't think we get any other perks like arcade card or anything ... it was never mentioned. Probably just need to have my conf. # to check in and that is all, since dining plan will go on our KTTW cards.

You are not missing anything. Most of the coupons force you to spend more money anyway!

That is fine - or just limit one per family.......

It is a pontoon boat and very comfortable. The Illuminations Dessert Party is only available for Grand Gatherings and private events. Too bad they don't have it for the general public.....

We are getting close, so time for Disney nightmares I guess! :lmao:

I booked through Disney last year for the Military discount too and we got all the perks everyone else got...Arcade card, ect. Of course we never made it to the arcade lol

I booked through a TA in another state this time though so I'm getting anxious as to when we will get our stuff in the mail.

I don't blame you!

However, I'm apparnelty right on target with my pre-Disney anxiety dreams, with everyone else here!! Mine was funnier... My dream was that I'd just gotten a plate of chocolate chip pancakes, coated in maple syrup, with bacon on the side...

and I woke up. I posted to Facebook about my dream (and the fact that I didn't even get to eat them, in my dream!) and my brother immediately replied with a detailed description of Tonga Toast. I had a lot of hungry people replying that day! :confused3

5 weeks and a day, here! We generally don't pack until the night before, either. It's like pulling teeth with my husband... but I've started my usual "bag of stuff we won't use between now and then," like sunblock. And my extra baseball hats. Oh, and rain ponchos.

Is it truly likely to rain every day? If so, I'm going to pick up a few more of those disposable rain ponchos (we have a total of 7 for 6 days).

My brother and I (mind you, I'm 34 and he's 32 and we live about 12 hours apart) are kind of in to "All Disney, all the time" when we communicate. However, he got lucky - like, 2 miles of lucky - with the tornadoes that went through western MA last week. His house didn't have power for a few days, but it's so much better than what too many people he knew had to deal with. It's a reminder of how lucky we are to be able to go to Disney!

When are you telling her?
I'm not sure yet, but I have to get a medical procedure done in the hospital on 6/29, so either right before or right after that. Last day of school here is 6/24, so I'm definitely waiting until after that.

Since there will be that many of us at the meet, I think we can forget the idea of small gifts. Just having fun together will be enough ;)

How many are there altogether? I like the one per family idea someone else mentioned, too :)

When we were there last year (end of July) I only remember it raining once. We got out of Haunted Mansion to a down pour and isn't that the day I forgot the ponchos and only had 1 umbrella. I don't think that experience is usual though.

I am so ready to be there! We hit 28 days today, so we're getting to the point where the planning is done, but it's truly too early to pack.

I can completely relate!!! :)

We are at 30 days, but yes I can relate! I do have a few things to do still (make some tee shirts and clean my house before hubby gets home) but all I want to do is fast forward time!!! I am SO READY!

Ours is being done as a private event and unless you have 10+ people it's not really worth it -- well, it might be if you have money to burn but I think you would pay for the min. of 10 people depending on the location OR decide it's worth it (like I should talk -- I have 5 of us & I'm doing a VIP tour which cost more than the entire Illuminations dessert party & I can't even get money from the other 4 since they are my kids!!!!!!). We have 15 of us splitting the cost.

Off the top of my head I can't remember the exact total but I think it was around $700 and that's not counting any milk we might drink since we are being billed on consumption for that. I just couldn't imagine a bunch of sweets without milk (only fruit juice or coffee/tea & we have a few younger ones). The cost can vary widely though because there is a venue fee and that varies depending on where you have it. Our venue fee was $250 (includedin the $700).

I did add a few tables for $75 which you could eliminate but I just had this gut feeling that I would much rather shell out the $75 and realize "oops we didn't really need them" than not pay it and kick myself for going "I really WISH we would have just ponied up $75 for a few tables/chairs!" I'm not really sure if there are any chairs - might just be tables. More than likely we aren't going to repeat it. It just happened to be my nephew's birthday and he choose EPCOT as the place he wanted to be & then I looked into the private dessert parties and wah-lah Mickey (it's all part of his Mickey Magic....he has a way of making you just magically hand over money).

I think I posted the menu before but off the top of my head I know there will be tie-dye cupcakes, rice krispie treats, cream horns, & chocolate brownies along with coffee & tea selections.

It really varies greatly with what menu you choose, venue, etc...

I can completely relate!!! :)

We have ordered our shirts from Etsy and have the bleach mickey ones made from our last trip which we are reusing, so really we don't have much to do.

We might make an autograph book, though.
