July 15, 2013- WONDER if a Mickey Bar will melt in Alaska?

Hi AZ checked thru 5 pounds of cruise trip papers and found the one that gives confirmation and time for our wilderness exploration and crab feast.
sez day 6 at 12 pm. think i went early so we can get back to the ship rest awhile and get ready for the evening time fun and games. wonder if the cooks know about Old Bay seasoning when doing the crabs?

Time grows short a month from tomorrow it's off the seattle with an overnight in vancouver. anyone else flying out of BWI?

Lest I forget All you dads and granddads have a great father's day!
stay well
cheers from

Ah- bummer! We chose the later one so little people can hopefully nap beforehand. My older one's naps are shortening by the day.... so who knows if he will be needing/wanting a nap in a month- but that could be freeing as well!

Davebuck - that sounds like an amazing trip! :thumbsup2

Cruise documents, new lightweight luggage and Canadian $$ for our stay in Vancouver all arrived today. :cool1:

Excursions:
Juneau - whale watching trip in the morning with Rum Runner, DD and I are going panning for gold in the afternoon.
Ketchikan - DH is going on the Knudson Cove Salmon Fishing trip, while DD & I do the Lumberjack Show and Potlatch Park DCL exclusive with youth activity.
Skagway - White Pass Rail & Bus including a 15 minute dog sled ride

Got my okay from ortho doctor yesterday for cruise!!! Am still in big boot part of time, but in small ankle brace other times!!! Yea!!!!! Got everything arranged and we will be flying into Seattle on the 12th, go by Amtrac to VC on the 13th for a couple of days of sightseeing and then board ship on 15th. Anyone else doing the )-dark-thirty Amtrac ride to VC on the 13th? Anxious to meet everyone and have a wonderful time! Am hustling around now trying to get stuff for FE and packing - couldn't do much of anything until I knew about my foot! Now it is Alaska or BUST!!!:cool1:

Great news!! Nope, we fly straight into Vancouver one month from today!

I have all my ideas for my FE gifts- have forever. Implementation..... need to get on that!

I am also on the Saturday train to BC but have 2 hotels booked for Seattle so I am not sure which one i am going to stay at! I now get into seattle at 430pm. So I now my take the hotel that is closer to Amtrak than the one by sea tac. Once I see the weather will make a choice. The in DT does ofer transfer the am of train. The rest of our group will fly into vancouver on Saturday last group will get there at. 8 pm. The only port where we have something planned is Ketchican is the Bearing Sea fishermans tour. We plan to just walk around and check out the sights in both Juneua and Skagway this is my 3rd cruise to Alaska.

Almost 28 days till we drive to Canada the day before our trip. We had palo booked for Tuesday the 16 th for brunch. So tonight we decided to book palo for dinner the night of the toy story menu, since I have read its not a great menu. So this is the first time we have ever booked palo, so I will get to try brunch and dinner, on this cruise. Just can't wait till we get on the ship

Just read that the bridge that collapsed on IS 5 near the US Canada line going into Vancouver is now open to restricted traffic.

Worse is it's still not that safe. Guess won't have that warm fuzzy feeling going across it.

Anyone else getting the it's almost time to go kick it in high gear mode?

All take care
cheers,

Hello :wave2:

Time to do introductions......I have been lurking on the board for a while now...researching and researching and researching until my head hurts. We are a Canadian family of 3 (one DD who is 6) - we live just East of Toronto, Ontario. We have cruised 3 times now, but never with Disney.

I found this thead about a month ago...but honestly held off on posting since I could not decide if the whole FE thing was something I could handle. In the end I decided that the FE would just be too much for our first Disney cruise. I am (like a few on this board I am discovering...lol) an OCD planner and the whole idea of planning for a weeks holidays in Vancouver, followed by a week in Alaska with Disney has almost killed me!

So far we have signed up for: brunch at Palo on Tracy Arm day, Dinner at Palo one night...can't remember if it is Juneau or Ketchikan night. For excursions we will be doing the White Pass Bus/Rail excursion in Skagway (through Chillkoot directly) and the Whale Watching/Rainforest? Photo excursion through Disney (sorry can't remember the exact name). No excursions for Ketchikan ...I think we will want a day to just walk, buy souvenirs etc...

Hopefully we can meet up with some of you during the cruise...thank you for the privilege of lurking in your thread for a while and watching you plan. I can't believe how quickly the cruise is approaching!

hi meekins,
welcome to the group. never to late to join the fun. are u flying or driving to vancouver. looking at a map it looks like one very very long road trip.
don't let the trip planning get to you although i often wonder if the people that say the planning is half the fun have ever gone anywhere. i think u will like crusing with disney. this is our third and we always say disney does it right hope it still holds true for this ride.
bye the bye anyone following the temps in alaska? 80+ f.
all stay well
cheers from,

Hi Meekins! Welcome to the boards. :welcome:

bye the bye anyone following the temps in alaska? 80+ f.

My DH is keeping an eye on this too - he reckons we'll need to pack shorts and t's instead of fleeces if this lovely weather continues. :goodvibes

Hi Meekins! We have brunch booked for Tracy Arm day too!

I am torn about the weather- it sounds SO much better... but I bought my kids a bunch of clothes for colder weather!

Checking the weather at the ports where we are headed, I can't find any 80+. I think warmer clothes will still be needed.

Dressing in Layers is the smart way to go. No matter what the weather is like when you get off the ship in port the weather can always change quickly being near the ocean.

Right now we are having a really cold summer season (I live in central Washington state and by now it's usually in the 90's it was in the mid-50's today) and that works for us usually. When on the ship last year I always wore a tank top, a shirt, and usually a fleece or sweater over that and then if it got warm I could just take the top layer off. :laundy:

Tracy Arm day I wore a coat with all my layers underneath and gloves and a hat and I'm used to the cold. We were at Tracy Arm at the end of August last year and it was in the mid-30's and at one point it was snowing. It was still beautiful just a little cold.

The weather in in the Northwest hasn't been predictable in the last couple years and we are experiencing different trends and it could be warm and hot one week and the next week cold. That has been happening the last 2 months. So do pack your warm weather clothes so that way you can be comfortable and enjoy the outdoors. If not they sell sweat shirts, hats, and gloves on board.

Tomorrow will be 24 days! :goofy:

Thanks for the welcome everyone! We are flying...I think the drive is about 4 days? (anyway too long with me being the only driver in our house...and I want to spend vacation on vacation and not in the car :))

I have enjoyed the planning, but the trick is knowing when to say enough research and planning...time to just relax and whatever happens it will be OK. I can make myself a little crazy ...

Watching the temps as well...but suspect it won't change what I am packing...we are doing 5 days in Vancouver before the cruise so I have to bring some warm weather clothes regardless.

clothes for the trip. I wore blue jeans, a polo shirt, and shoes. even the day at tracy arm I wore a windbreaker. while my pansy wife was wearing a stocking cap and gloves. there was days I was outside on the ship with no coat.

I don't believe in packing a big winter coat, and I don't dress in layers. this is all I will wear for this trip this year

I wish I could say you made packing easier but I will be more like your wife:goodvibes

Oh, we'll be packing clothes for all types of weather, believe me! But, where we live, four seasons in one day is not unheard of, so you might just see us wandering around in short sleeves and jeans, when the rest of the cruisers are wearing winter jackets and scarves!

We also have brunch booked that day. Maybe we should see if the private room is available that day. It holds about 12. I've eaten there twice with DIS groups and you get a little extra care.
