July 15, 2013- WONDER if a Mickey Bar will melt in Alaska?

9 Day's to go:banana::cool1:
are there places to exchange money at the vancover airport after you get off the plane.
When we travel abroad, we just use the ATM machines to get as much money as we need. The banks get better exchange rates than you can if you go to an exchange place.

My parents are coming now. They are in room 2103. They won't be in the FE group - no time to organize.

Where are we meeting at 3:00 on the 15th now? I've seen two different places: Deck 9 and promenade lounge. Just let us know.
Thanks,

As a newbie myself, maybe someone who knows these things better should make the call!

Got a question......Bryan and I are discussing the wear for the formal night at the Palo Restaurant? Is most everyone wearing formal attire - like a tux for the men and formal for the ladies, or just a nice dress and coat and tie for the men??? I know my son and DIL always take really formal stuff, like a tux and long dress, etc......need to get some feedback quickly as I start to pack tomorrow!!!! Cannot believe we leave Friday!!!!! Hope the weather will be great in Alaska - hard to know how to pack, so doing it in layers......:goodvibes

We are just going with a suit for the men, nice dress for the women. I love the idea of dressing to the nines- but it's not in the cards for us this time. I read on some trip reports that there were people on the full spectrum- from very formal to "did you know it was formal night and not lunch at Applebee's?"

I am actually wearing the same dress with different accessories for Formal and Semi-formal nights. Shhhhh.... I figure it is helping me pack light. Like an extra dress makes a lot of difference with all the jeans, sweatshirts, coats etc that we probably don't need. :rotfl: Our goal is one big suitcase for each adult, one for the kids to share and one for shoes, diapers, and FE stuff. I'll let you know how that works out.

I usually see and do nice dress and coat and tie for Palo. We are doing a little dressier for Formal night this cruise as I want to get a nice photo of my family. My DH is bringing his military dress uniform as he is getting ready to retire (20 years service and about to be Lt. Col). Say hi to us if you see us dressed that way!

On another note, I am still ordering stuff for the trip hoping it comes in time. I found a really adorable Mickey plate that I want to drop off at GS to get autographed. Is anyone else playing mail Russian roulette hoping to get packages before we fly? Less than a week til we leave. I can't wait!

Can you PM me your contact info and we can connect our daughters? I can't PM cause don't have enough posts.

I thought when I got to 10 posts I would be able to PM. Is it more than 10? If not, am I missing what button to press to send a PM?

If you click on the screen name, you should get a little drop box and one of the options says "send so-and-so a private message." Yes, I think it is 10, but not positive!

I am waiting for some dress sandals for my daughter. My son.... well, I was hoping to borrow some, but no luck yet. He might be in his Anakin Skywalker light saber shoes on formal night! I might hit the resale store. I just can't justify full price shoes he will wear 1-2 times. My daughter can wear the sandals here at home (if her feet don't grow too fast) but he'll never wear them again.

Nope...just getting "share, report, quote". I wonder if its 20? I may have to go post on other threads I'm lurking on...

We are going to Palo for brunch and dinner so my husband is wearing a dress shirt, tie, suit pants, and dress shoes which is dressed up for him. (Last year he wore dress pants and a polo shirt shirt for formal night.) I'm taking a nice dress and dress pants and a more formal top. Which those will have to also be worn more than once, I'm trying to pack lighter this year.:rotfl2:

I haven't posted in a while but thought I should answer this since we live here in Vancouver. There is a money exchange as soon as you leave the secure area at the airport and lots downtown and at many hotels. Most shops/restaurants will accept American cash at par so you shouldn't need to change a whole lot to Canadian $. Or use the ATM as someone else suggested.

Summer is finally here on the west coast so pack some shorts & tank tops in all those layers of clothes. I hope you all have some time to enjoy some of the sites in Vancouver before or after the cruise. It is really a beautiful city to explore with lots of things to do with the kids.

Thank you for taking time to answer my question this is our first time doing this type of trip .

We will certainly say hello and will have lots to talk about. My husband retired as a LTC in 1990 and my son retired (LTC) in 1995 with 20 years and our grandson just graduated from West Point this past May, so we bleed ARMY GREEN!!!!! Congratulations and thank you for your service to our country!

Hi everyone!

I suggested that we meet about 3:00 pm in the Promenade Lounge (Deck 3, aft), as that is the most common place and time that people from DIS have met on past cruises we've been on. I spoke with global goofies, and I believe she said that's where people have met on her cruises, too.

So if that sounds OK, let's meet there at 3:00. Also, some DISers like to wear some sort of tag that is in the shape of a Mickey head and that is lime green in color so that other DISers will recognize them. I didn't have time to make such tags for our group this time, but I think if we're all there around 3:00, we can figure out which people are part of our gang, haha!

If anyone has any better ideas, let me know. Otherwise, I hope to meet lots of you about 3:00 next Monday in the Promenade Lounge. Oh, and someone mentioned "Alaska time", but it will be 3:00 "Vancouver time" as that is where we will be!

Thanks!

That sounds perfect! I am super hoping to make the meet, but also will be trying to cajole a nap out of my kids- so we'll see! If we don't make it, and you see some people with super blonde toddlers- boy older- that's us!

Does anyone know the stateroom number for KMeagan? Trying to finalize my FE gifts now.
Thanks!
