July 13 2008 Cruisin on the Wonder

If you go back to the cruise line forum and go to page 20...there is a post called "category 11 Sideways room" about half way down the page that describes the benefits and layout of the sideways rooms:)

:) Thanks for the greetings! We are a family of 5 on our 2nd 4night Wonder. After having so much fun last May we rebooked on board. This year we will have 2 boys in the teen group and one in the 8-12 year olds. Our home is in Nebraska although our middle boy still misses the California we left behind 5 years ago. I'm unsure if I'll be able to construct a fish extender since I'm scheduled for shoulder surgery this Wednesday. However, we could stick some goodies in yours:)

Did your younger son go to the Teen area last time? My DD13 (almost14) is really not sure at all about it.

Could you just buy a hanging pocket ? Or send DH out to get one:rotfl2:
I wouldn't like you to miss out on the goodies:thumbsup2
Especially as I am bringing HAGGIS for you all:lmao:

Good luck with the surgery:thumbsup2

As this is our first cruise...and hopefully not our last...I've only booked the parasailing for DD13 and DH. I'm quite happy with my feet on dry land and my camera in my hand thanks!::yes::

Glad to see you've signed up some family members for the parasailing. I've signed up DS 15 and DS 13 on the 2nd CC day. Now, they just need to show up:lmao: Since, I am unable to parasail (with my shoulder) and I've always wanted to, encouraging (making) them to parasail is the next best thing! I cant wait to see what they think:) When is your reservation??

Well the biggest reason for DS13 to go to the teen group this cruise is that he was only 12 last May and couldn't go into the teen group with his brother DS 15. He is really looking forward to it. There will be an invite for your DD on your fishie inviting her to attend the first evening. I recommend going that first evening since it is a meet and greet. My DS 15 (14 last May) thought there could've been more teens, but much of the US is still in school in May so he's hoping this July there will be more. ..
I do have boys so you will probably have different concerns. I was grilling DS 15 last year..."did anyone sneak alcohol???...were kids kissing on the stairs?"...he was like..uh..."we just all talked in the hallways and once we threw ice cubes overboard"..:confused3 .so I mellowed out a bit on him. They both love music and will bringing lots of their own cd's as well as karaoke collection. If DD has any questions, please don't hesitate to ask.
My big thing is that all the boys meet people from different places and learn something. Yes, even if they are odd or different because maybe some of them will find my boys:cool2:  odd or different and their friends back home want stories about these weird and different people they met since we live in the middle of nowhere

Oh yes...he's on his way now..to fetch one...maybe I could hang up a pair of his pants on the fishie. they.have pockets: ok...I will beg, borrow, but not steal an FE..I will even search ebay..promise::yes:: I wouldn't like you to miss out on the goodies:thumbsup2

why do people living in other countries have cute names for things that Americans don't understand (haggis)..Nebraskans have corn...rows and rows of it. Corn is not a cute name and won't fit in your FE:laughing:

Good luck with the surgery:thumbsup2
out of surgery and nearly back to work:)

I think they are 11 am on the first day at CC.

Sorry didn't notice the date on your post...hope your surgery WENT well and that you are fighting fit.

DD13, is not a girlie girl so the whole disco scene etc is SO not her.She is more your Avril Lavigne type IYKWIM. She likes Green Day etc.
I'm having great difficulty persuading her to wear something other than black for the trip. If she would just lighten up a wee bit, that would be good. I know that what she has seen from the DVD, the Stack does not really appeal to her. We will just have to wait and see. She will probably get on with your DS's though!
Which deck are you on?

Ok..so the DS13 sets me straight last night..he told me that actually haggi is does not rhyme with baggy and it is not a cute name for anything despite what I think.:rotfl2: . And his television watching has not "sucked the life out of him" since that is where he learned what haggis are. I think he is still:lmao: at me even if he is not awake yet.

DS 15 says to have your DD join in the first night so she can size up the group and figure out what's going on. There is enough of a group that there are all kinds of teens and the set up is slouchy couches all over the place where kids hang out. DD can request any kind of music to be played or she can bring some of her own cds too.

DS 15 says that it is a trip to hear the CM's go over the rules which include something about some teen of the past pitching himself over a railing and ending up in the captains private area. There is some type of game that evening where you tell where you are from and something about the place. DS13 will have a "great time" with that one..he will not see any redeeming qualities of our town til he's 30.

Neither of them understand the entire concept of the boy girl stuff that is posted on the cruise forum. DS 15 doesn't think were on the cruise long enough for coupling up and didn't see anything inappropriate going on last May. Of course when I asked DS15 if we were going on a longer cruise would he expect to see any boy/girl stuff..he thought I was being lame.

We are on deck 8 I think..at least that's what our cabin no. starts with:confused3 . It is where all those 5 people cabins are. Which level are you on?:)

Oh My! I think I have confused you here. HAGGIS is a Scottish delicacy. Made from unmentionable parts and oatmeal and spices, and it used to be wrapped and cooked in the lining of a sheep's stomach. The only thaing that has changed is that they have some other form of casing to cook it in now!:lmao:

I assumed that everyone associated Scotland with tartan and haggis. SORRY!
Have you heard of haggis, neeps and tatties?? This is how it is served traditionally, with mashed potatoes(tatties) and mashed swede (or turnip) neeps!
http://www.scottishhaggis.co.uk/
And never mind it not fitting in your FE, I don't think I'd get through US immigration with it!:rotfl:

I can see this cruise is going to be fun!!
COME ON EVERYONE! GET YOURSELF A FISH EXTENDER AND LETS DO SMALL GIFTS FROM OUR LOCAL AREA.

pleeeeease::yes::

very cool website:) ..see that's the point of all of this...to learn something new:flower3:

You are so right! I've now looked up a map to see where Nebraska is!:rotfl:
We have family in LA and vacation in Florida. Thats my two states.

oh..LA..DS13 is choosing that next May for his graduation (8th grade), so he can go to Disneyland and Universal. I've discussed the possibility of Adventures by Disney backstage tour, but at 13, he thinks it will take time away from the parks. Both DH and I are born and raised Californians and DH family is all from Southern CA while mine is from the San Francisco area...so seeing where Nebraska is..you can understand my DS13 distress. Luckily DS15 and DS8 are unaffected by location. ds15 just flew out a week in CA and DS13 and DS8 will fly out after the cruise for a visit with cousins as well. I like the LA scene, but just as happy with wide open spaces and clean air out here:). I need to see water at least once a year..hence the cruise..are your surroundings city or country?:)

We live in a town but the view from my garden is of a farmland so you kinda forget where you are!
We live about half way between Glasgow and Edinburgh so its an easy commute to either city.

A little further north and east, takes you to Fife and to some beautiful coastal villages. We would like to buy a little holiday home there but you are talking about half a million doallars just for a little fisherman's cottage.:scared1:
Scotland has some beautiful scenery to offer and so much history...you just don't get the weather to enjoy it all.

Is your younger DD wanting go to to the Ocean Club for her age group?:)

Beauty yes! My best friend decided to get married at some beautiful Scottish castle..we were all to zip over there, but my youngest was 5 months old at the time so there was no way for us to go. My parents went though and took really gorgeous pictures. A Scottish wedding. the men all wore the kilt thingee...it was such a California thing to do::yes::

Yes she is. She will be 10 come September and is usally quite good at mixing.

Some of the places to get married now are so romantic. Again its the weather. We had friends get married on the banks of Loch Lomond. The hotel had a jetty/pier which extended out into the loch, for photographs so you were copletely surrounded by the scenery.
it rained all day and the scenery was shrouded in mist.Such a shame.

So, how many are "in" for the fish extender thing? Are there just a couple of us? We are really getting close!   I have to start thinking about all of the packing, and I don't have a plan at all for this, since I don't know how many to be thinking of. Can we get a count? Will we know names and ages of kids, or is it more of a general "family" treat?

Jen

Ok..we are in:woohoo: and I will search ebay this weekend for an FE. It's ok with me whether you want to do individual, just for the kids or just a family thingee. We are about as flexible as you can get. Nebraska is not known for abundance of goodies past the corn:lmao: so we will attempt to be creative in this last month of planning. Hope you all have a great day:goodvibes
