July 13 2008 Cruisin on the Wonder

Hi All!
I haven't been on the boards in a long time. We were on the "NJ" cruise (7 day) this past November and I started a new job the day after we got back.
We will be on the July 13th cruise. DH, myself, DS 12, DS 7 and my in-laws.
We are very excited. Just paid balances & registered kids for clubs (for the
1st time cruisers, we highly recommend the clubs, my kids love the clubs, they want to go to them as soon as we board but they don't open until after dinner). This will be our 4th cruise, 3rd Wonder 4 day.
My dh, in-laws & kids will be in WDW BW the Wednesday before the cruise & I arrive the Friday before the cruise.
Have a good one!

I just changed our cabin to a sideways cabin on the sixth deck. I'm looking forward to trying it out after reading so many wonderful comments about the sideways cabins on this board. Anyone else on deck six?

We will be in BCV before and after the cruise! Hello neighbours:flower3:

We are on deck 5.

Again, anyone fancy doing the Fish Extender thing?:thumbsup2

We're getting excited here! I am unable to book excursions or anything yet, since the reservation is with my dh' company. But I am thinking that we won't be doing any - we just want to play at CC, and I think we will just walk around a little bit in Nassau. I don't plan to use Flounder's Reef for the baby. It is really strange for me NOT to be planning this trip more!

I think we will get reservation numbers in time to check in online, and register Brynne for the kids club. At this point, she wants no part of it. Anyone with a child her age (8) want to get them together as pen pals ahead of time? I know it would be exciting for Brynne to "know" someone before she got there. It doesn't bother me if she doesn't go, as far as us "getting a break" is concerned, but I don't want her to miss all the fun she would have if she participates. PM me if you are interested.

Can't wait!
Jen
mom to Brynne, age 8, and SeiJin, age 23 months during trip

I had no idea what the fish extender thing was all about. I have the general idea now that there is a thread on the main forum. It sounds like fun! Can you give me specifics? I'm in!
Jen

Well , I'm no expert and only know what I've read on the other threads, but here goes.

It all starts with the metal fish outside your stateroom:lmao: this is where they put your copy of the Navigator.
People hang a pocket organiser from the fish.(homemade or shop bought) Then people like us who have met on a cruise thread, leave each other a small gift in the hanging pocket.
There are various threads about what these gifts could be. Nothing expensive, unless you wanted to of course(I LOVE diamonds BTW!:rotfl: )

But seriously, its would just seem like a fun thing to do amongst those of us on this "JULY 13TH CRUISE THREAD".

I will try and copy some links to the threads to see if more of us are interested.

This sounds like a lot of fun. I saw a couple of threads on it, so I will see what develops.
Jen

Wow - our thread really isn't going anywhere. The 4 night cruise after us has HUNDREDS of pages! Isn't anybody excited?
Jen:confused3

Ha! It 's just you and me!

I've had literally NO time recently to visit this forum (just had my 40th!) and arrived back from Barcelona yesterday. I am also trying to fight the amalgamation of my daughter's school at the moment so I'm finding it hard to spend time on the boards. It seems to be ruling my life and I'm not getting the chance to plan and get as excited as I would have liked.

Not long now though. We leave 4 weeks on Sunday :scared1: and are spending the first 2 weeks at BCV. then the DCL and then the final 3 nights at BCV again.

And I've still to get fabric to make my Fish Extender:rotfl2: . we don't get a lot of choice on Disney fabrics here in Scotland so I will have to try flea-bay!

So are you all organised??:laundy:

:) Our family will be on this cruise as well It will be our second as we took a 4 night Wonder last May. Hello to you all!:)

Whew! I thought for a while I was talking to myself!

Happy Birthday, Lesley! Congrats on the big 4-0! Sounds like you enjoyed it.

Because this trip is organized through my husband's work, we only yesterday got the reservation numbers and the chance to reserve anything. It's a good thing we don't want to do Palo or any real shore excursions. With the baby, we thought we would just all hang out together, unless Brynne goes to the kids clubs. All of it will be new to the kids, so we don't need to do the extras. We are renting snorkel equipment at CC. But all the control the company has over the trip threw a wrench into any excessive planning I would have done.

I am having some sewing done for the girls, and I am excited about the new outfits. I wish I could sew, but I found a great woman who is doing it at a fantastic price. Outfit planning has taken the place of trip planning!

We will be staying at the Yacht Club for three nights before the cruise. It is the basic land and sea packge - not how I would have done it if I was in charge, but it's not my money! We had already planned a trip in November when he won this one, so we didn't extend our time in Disney World for July. It will be fun to think that we will be back in such a short time, and will make me feel better about not trying to do everything in the heat, and in two days.
I have planned the heck out of those two days, though! Definitely swimming at the resort for the middle of the day, but planning to stay out late at night.

I haven't done anything at all for the fish extender thing. Waiting to see what happens, I guess!

By the way, hello to lakerz5! Glad to "see" you!

Jen

Welcome Aboard lakerz5!! I've added you to the list.:thumbsup2

Tells us more about your family and where you are from.

Would you be interested in taking part in the "Fish Extender" thing??

Hi!~ Its been awhile since Ive checked this thread, and youre right, it is a little slow...maybe b/c its a shorter trip, people dont have the time to commit to meets or other activities??? This is my first cruise, so Im not sure:confused: Anyway, im a teacher so the end of school had been hectic for myself and my kids, too. But, that just means we are closer to the trip:cool1: We got Palo ressies and booked a room in Atlantis for the day at Nassau...DH is dying to check it out (think he wants to hit the casino!!!)
Other than that, I book the stingray adventure at CC and did the 2 day bike/snorkel/floatie rental so we can take advantage of them both days. We are pretty active and LOVE the beach, so Im really looking foward to the DoubleDip!!! Happy Planning to ALL (soo...Happy Packing:yay: )

I am definitely looking forward to the double dip. I was nervous about the cruise with our then 23 month old. I don't want to leave her in Flounder's Reef at all, and I think she will enjoy the shows to some extent, but the idea of a day at sea with her is intimidating. I have no idea how she will react to her big sister in the pool while she can't go in. I was envisioning lots of walks up and down hallways and stairs! But if we get two stops as planned, it should be fine. I am looking forward to snorkeling at CC with my 8 year old. We will take turns with the baby. We leave for Disney World in 42 days!
Jen

I'm not on this cruise, but I'll be on the Magic at that time, hope both cruises are awesome for everyone:thumbsup2

:) Thanks for the greetings! We are a family of 5 on our 2nd 4night Wonder. After having so much fun last May we rebooked on board. This year we will have 2 boys in the teen group and one in the 8-12 year olds. Our home is in Nebraska although our middle boy still misses the California we left behind 5 years ago. I'm unsure if I'll be able to construct a fish extender since I'm scheduled for shoulder surgery this Wednesday. However, we could stick some goodies in yours:)

Actually the Mickey pool is really, really shallow...your little one can splash with her sister:)

I thought that there was no pool on the Wonder for those in diapers? I am thinking that one of the ears on the Magic is for the non-potty-trained, and that there is a "splash zone" on the Wonder, but I could be mistaken. Hmmm...
Jen

Well, you are correct about the Wonder Splash Zone::yes:: , but on last May's cruise there were a lot of little ones in the Mickey Pool splashing around with moms and dads...many younger than your youngests age and obviously in swim diapers..I saw the extended splash zone more for babies...your 23 month old may see herself as a "big girl"....So you could check out the environment and see if she could splash around in the shallow parts of the pool with you. We never saw a CM at the pools at all which would've been a nice thing to see when our then 7 year old was headlocked and thrown underwater in the goofy pool right in front of me the first day on the ship:scared1:
...leave it to the Nebraska mom to lead you astray:rolleyes1 :)

What is the sideways cabins? Haven't heard of this before. Just to update our info...It's still 3 of us but before we head to the ship we're staying at Saratoga Springs instead of Ft. Wilderness.

Can't wait to set sail :)
