Jost Van Dyke Beach Day (TT65) - better to do on your own?

So, the Jost Van Dyke Beach Day port adventure is about 7 hours long and it gets you to and from White Bay with a transfer at Great Harbor. Lunch is included and it costs $114, not including tip.

Seems like an adult can do it on their own for about $60: $24 cab RT Road Town to West End; $25 ferry RT West End to Great Harbour; $10 cab RT Great Harbour to White Bay.

I know there is a convenience and "peace of mind" factor going through DCL, plus you get the lunch included, but I am skeptical that all that is worth $54 extra dollars.

Is my math correct? If so, do you find that the Disney premium is really worth it?

Thanks!

I was just looking at our excursions and saw that the Rib Boat and Jost Van Dyke is already sold out. The cruise isn't until May.
Must be popular. It includes lunch it says and it's $152 per person.

That excursion probably is not offered on that cruise because of the early all aboard time?
If it's the same one I'm on in May

I read (on another forum) that the ferry is unreliable and that it is better to do a ship excursion.

For our time in port, we would only be able to catch the 10am ferry to Jost van Dyke and we must return on the 2pm. That would mean we would only be at the beach for 2 1/2 hours at the most for the time it would take to do the RT cab on Tortola, the RT ferry to JVD, and the RT cab on JVD.

I think the DCL excursion will give you more time on the beach because they are going to pick you up at the cruise dock and you save the taxi time. A DCL excursion, this time, will take the worry out of missing the ship, save me from having to take that much cash with me for our group, and lunch.

I agree that you can usually save money and I can count on one hand the number of cruise excursions I've done, but I'm not finding information anywhere that makes me confident that it's easy to do this on my own.

If someone has any information, please post it here.
