Josh Powell killed his sons. Oh, and himself.

I can't even image doing that my children. Why in the world didn't that stupid women call the police instead of her boss:confused3

With all the atrocities in this story to choose from, the case worker is where you choose to focus your anger?

I can get past the atrocious grammar and spelling, but when you come with a comment like this, I can't help but shake my head.

This is truly a horrible story and I can't believe that this monster even had visitation with the boys. I saw on The Today Show this morning that the boys were starting to verbalize more about the night their mother died. They said the older boy had said that his mother was in the trunk the night they went 'camping' and that his dad took her out in the woods and she never came back.

I truly feel for the grandparents that have lost so very much these last 2 years.

I couldn't believe it when I read this story this afternoon. Why couldn't he just take himself out? Why the kids? And the poor case worker saw the whole thing. How sad.

I hope he rots.

I say this every time I hear stories like this. Why must they always kill the children?

She did call 911 first

I don't think she deserves blame but when he wouldn't let the kids leave and kept them from going she should have called the police. ENd of story

What do you mean by this? She was bringing them there for visitation, not picking them up.

Saddest thing I have heard on the news lately. Although this kind of news is not new, I always feel so bothered why these parents do this kind of monstrous thing to their children. Parents are supposed to be the last people who would want to hurt their kids, so it makes me wonder if they are seriously sick in the head or just purely evil. RIP to the Powell kids.

^ This....my neighbor said the same thing a long time ago.(she is a social worker and has been involved in a case or 2 that info from kids have been key in) I don't know if it is indeed fact in this case, but sure makes sense to me. Actually it is the only part of the whole evil situation that does. May the parent's of Susan find peace in some way.

Read the link in my OP. Then you'll understand what really happened.

This made me sick when I heard it. The coward. Kill yourself but WHY take your kids?? And to do it in such a violent matter? I'm NOT saying any way is better, but for God's sake, there are more quiet ways to go. He subjected those babies to something unimaginable. Burn in h*ll, you animal.

This poor woman could have done nothing to prevent this and has done nothing to deserve being called stupid. She will have to live with with having been a part of this event for the rest of her life and will never be the same.

I am watching some coverage on the story and it has made me a little teary eyed. HOW CAN SOMEONE DO THAT TO THEIR OWN CHILDREN???

ANY children. God, what a monster.

And I agree with PPs... She DID call 911 and even if she didn't it wouldn't have made a difference.

If the police showed up they would have tried to coax the father out in order to try and keep things calm, giving him MORE time. If they smelled the gas, I would think there are certain procedures they would have to follow in order to safely go in and retrieve the boys.

When I read this story this morning I immediately started to sob. I have been following this story for a while. No one expected this. I am so distraught over this. I live in NY not Washington but this is so tragic and so evil. This hurts me the way 9/11 hurt me, the way the Amish school shooting hurt me.

Before calling somone stupid, you should probably actually check the facts. So you don't, you know, look stupid.

I agree and from what I have read and seen, he blew the house before police could have responded. And even if an officer had been with the worker, there is not much that could have been done.

When I hear stories like this it just boggles my mind on what was going on in the person's head to think up and do something like that. The dark, horrible thoughts that must be going through their heads just really frightens me. To kill you own children on purpose? :confused3:sad2:

She did call 911, but since that wasn't specifically pointed out in at least one of the articles about this I can understand how you might have missed it. Even given that you thought she didn't call, I still can't understand why you would call her stupid. Pretending for a minute that she hadn't called, how exactly did you think the phone call would have made this end differently? There was nothing anyone could have done to prevent this once the children were at the guy's house, and the social worker didn't have the power to keep the children away from their father. She did everything she could have done to try to save those kids and it wasn't enough. I'm sure that will haunt her for the rest of her life.

Absolutely it will.

This is just so awful. The worst possible way this could have ended up. :(

Josh Powell's dad is also currently sitting in prison on child porn and voyeurism charges. He secretly videotaped women and neighborhood children in the bath and on the toilet. Apparently the police raided the home he was living in with Josh Powell and the two kids and found this material. That's around the time the children were taken out of Josh Powell's custody.

Josh Powell's dad also claimed that his daughter-in-law - Josh's wife, who disappeared - was in love with him and he wrote her love songs and posted them on the Intrnet.

This sounds like a sick family and it goes back farther than this one event. If the father is so disturbed, it makes you wonder what he did to his own son growing up. It doesn't say whether he had a wife or if Josh Powell's mom is in the picture. I've never heard anything about her.

Anyway, those poor children. What tragic short lives. Losing their mom, killed by their father in such a horrific way. Awful.

The boys were starting to talk more about what their father did to their mother.

That is why he killed them.
