Josh Powell killed his sons. Oh, and himself.

I just read that and feel so sad for the grandparents & that caseworker. What a horrible end to such an odd, disturbing story.

This was a very disturbing story to read on multiple levels. I hope those boys didn't suffer.

I, too, wonder why the supervised visitation was allowed to happen at the house.

I feel so bad for the grandparents.

With the case worker so close, it's a wonder she wasn't hurt.

TC :cool1:

Am I the only one that remembers a similar story from years ago? I swear there was a story just like this or am I confusing it with a TV drama?

There was a Lifetime movie similar which is what I first thought of. In that one the parents were fighting for custody and at the end they were chasing the Dad with the kids in the car (I think police were involved) and the Dad blew the car up somehow..the kids were with the Dad. I remember that movie so well at the end because I kept hoping for the happy LT ending and we'd see the kids on the side of the road, but nope. I just sat there stunned and even my kids said they couldn't believe it ended like that. I'm pretty sure it was a based on true story movie.

He's was a coward and he took the cowards way out. I am sure the man upstairs is going to punish him justly. Those poor children :(

I hope they are now reunited with their mom and they are in the arms of angels and having a grand reunion.

I can't even image doing that my children. Why in the world didn't that stupid women call the police instead of her boss:confused3

She called 911. As a mental health therapist who has very close friends who work as social workers here in Utah with DCFS, I believe calling her stupid is unfair. It's a tough job, underpaid and over worked and highly cristisized. I'd like to see others try to do that job. It's emotional and taxing and while rewarding, it's heartbreaking. He had the house ready to blow. It wouldn't have mattered who she called. Josh Powell is to blame. Period.

this ^^^^^ :sad2:

According to the article the caseworker DID call 911 immediately. http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/html/localnews/2017434073_powell06m.html

She bears NO blame or responsibility for that monster's actions or the outcome of his actions. Firemen arrived 3 minutes after 911 was called. Everyone did what they could, but they never had a chance.

I wonder if he had the house soaked in alcohol or something?

The news I was listening to today reported that the case worker smelled gas. So I assume he let the house fill with the gas from the furnace, stove, etc. and then lit up.

monster.

How awful! I can't imagine the pain those poor grandparents are feeling. May those two precious boys rest in peace.

As for the social worker, I feel terrible for him/her(?) too. They were doing their job and this maniac did this. I'm sure this person is devastated.

I remember that movie and it was based on a true story which made it that much more difficult to watch. I was hoping for a happy ending, not knowing what the real life ending had been.

As for this tragedy, words just aren't enough. My heart goes out to the rest of the family of those little boys. What a gut-wrenching heartache!

Just a week ago, here where I live, we just had this same thing happen. Custody battle between mom & dad, dad had the kids (twin 3 year old girls), mom came to pick them up and when she got to the house and went inside, all three were dead. Dad had cut their little throats while they slept, and his own, and also hooked the car exhaust to hose and ran it inside the house. Very, very sad. I can't understand why people take their anger out on their spouse, partner, baby mamma, baby daddy, whomever, on the innocent children who never even asked to be part of the drama.

The whole story left me feeling physically ill.

Me too. Stunning news. Sick.

I thought one day soon Powell would be arrested for killing his wife. I never thought this would happen. Those poor boys.

The grandparents have lost so much. Incredibly sad story.

This is just unimaginable for Cox family........

They will never have closure now.
What did he do with this poor woman?
It just baffles me, that he could make her disappear never to be recovered.

The whole story left me feeling physically ill.

Yes, me too.

This was so terrible to hear- I feel so bad for Susan's parents, they lost her over 2 years ago and now to have lost their precious grandbabies all because of this POS is really too difficult to wrap my brain around.

My heart aches for the poor Cox family. How tragic!

The news I was listening to today reported that the case worker smelled gas. So I assume he let the house fill with the gas from the furnace, stove, etc. and then lit up.

monster.

I heard a clip for an interview with a policeman there. He said there was some agent (I can't remember the name of it, but he names it.) that was evident that made the fire spread/burn faster.

Gut wrenching is the right word.... :sad1: :sad1: :sad1:

I don't think she deserves blame but when he wouldn't let the kids leave and kept them from going she should have called the police. ENd of story

And that would have changed what? She has been up front reporting the course of her actions. Have you considered she handled the situation according to her department's protocol?

This is the saddest story I have heard in a long time. At least those babies are with their mother and he is where he belongs!!!!
