Jon & Kate plus 8 budget?

How does everybody sum up JK8 lives from 30 minute shows?

I don't think you can, which is why there are so many different opinions, no one knows what thier lives are really like except for them!

I also think the majority of reality shows out there are "made for TV". It's not who'd we see if we met them on the street.

I hope I am not turning this into a bash thread, that really wasn't my intent, but it is true they received medicaid. That is just a fact and I'm certainly not saying it was wrong or right. Jon was unemployed for almost a year and then got a job at the PA governor's office in Harrisburg. These facts weren't mentioned on the TV specials you watched.

Okay, I usually don't chime in on these things, but felt like I should point this out. Most people I know who had children who spent time in the NICU (I know a LOT because of my profession), their children were picked up by medicaid. Just as a special needs child is almost always medicaid eligible, so are preemies. This is just my experience, and it may be because of my geographic area.

I know this has been debated and put to bed before, but do you both feel the same way about all celebrities? I think your beef would have to be with the companies and people who give the free stuff, not those who receive them.

No. I don't usually have beef with John and Kate either! My beef is that it's Disney and I want free personalized ears and I want my kids to have ice cream with the princesses. I wouldn't yell and freak out about it the whole time like Kate did! :rotfl: It just kinda makes me mad that I bust my butt working and budgeting to pay for an expensive vacation and they get all kinds of neat freebies because they have a TV show!

It is ironic that celebrities, the rich people that can afford to pay for all these extra neat things, are the ones who get them for free.

I agree with you. This was one of my thoughts in a pp. My thought wasn't so much Disney, although I completely agree, I just forgot about that. I was writing about the Academy Awards and such. They always talk about the gift bags that the actors are given.

These people can clearly afford all of the merchadise/events that they are gifted. The companies should be either giving the "donations" to people who are less capable of paying for it themselves, or making donations to charities instead.

I've always seen the irony, too, but that's just how it is. On the flip side, they (obviously J&K included) are open to public scrutiny. Their children will hear horrible, hurtful things about their parents and themselves (I still can't wrap my mind around grown women saying how much they hate Mady). Hopefully J&K are bringing them up to be strong, confident individuals who don't give a flying flip what people say about them. Kate's obviously got a head start on that.

I spent almost $5000 on the kids' first Disney trip in May (we went deluxe on most everything, did the P&PP, character meals, etc., etc.), and I invited my mom and grandparents along, too. Yes, I worked and saved for a year to take that trip, but it doesn't really bother me that they got hats or princess meet and greets.

The difference between Jon & Kate and other Celebs is that the Celebs I have read about that get freebies , donate theirs to charity. I have seen Tori Spelling, Angelina and Brad, Tom and Katie,,,,etc. do this.

Is that better than donating money?

That article was written in 2005, before they became "famous", so they may have received Medicaid, but based on their income back then. Since they are now making lots of $$, they would not qualify for the medicaid.

That's s good point. I know in our state there are special programs in place for extreme circumstances like either a disabled child or really extreme medical bills

Thats what Im saying, even when the magazines offer them money for pics of their kids, they donate that money.

not all of them do

The Gosselins also make monetary donations. They donated to RMH and pediatric cancer research. Is it necessary to do both (monetary and in-kind)? No, it's not necessary to do either, but they choose to do at least one (monetary) that we know of, they could very possibly be donating clothes they know they won't use, toys, etc.

But doesn't it irritate anyone that these people intentionally had children that would have special needs, when they could have had healthy babies that didn't need to be on welfare? They chose to have a litter of kids, so why did everyone else in their state have to pay?

Not very politically correct of me, I know, but I really don't see why anyone would choose to have this many children at once.

I know I could never have an abortion or selectively reduce. I underwent testing for PCOS (what Kate has) this summer, and my results are inconclusive. While I adore DS to the moon and back, I may not be able to have biological children without technology. If it turned out I was preggo with sextuplets, I would leave the rest to God. If He meant for me to have six babies, I would have six babies.

I have a feeling that's what Kate was thinking, as well. I know I could never, ever pick and choose which of my children got the chance to live.

Social welfare programs bother me on some levels but things that directly benefit children don't tend to bother me. I know in my state my neighbors benefited from a similar program- they had two severely disabled children. Help with medical expenses is probably the only thing that kept them off the streets- Dad worked and Mom provided almost 24 hour a day care for those two kids. I guess I prefer to think that it is helping someone like that and that's who those programs are in place for.

:sad2:
Please watch the show and reply back with which one you could eliminate. Honestly. Sorry to hijack, but this was out of line, and needed to be squashed. JK did not intend on having this many children, GOD gave them this many!! As the daughter of a 14-year old, unmarried pregnant girl back in 1972 (legal RvW), I count my blessings for being alive, and will not even begin a debate on abortion, because I will never stop. Just please, watch the show a few times, and think about it really hard. Life is precious, how can we treat it like it is nothing?

As for Kate, I think she is brilliant. Rather than selectively killing a child or 2, she accepted GOD's gift for her and Jon. I am sure when JK prayed for GOD's will, and asked for his provision, they couldn't have possibly imagined the BLESSINGS they are getting now:yay:

I know from all of my budgeting for this crazily addictive little mouse, there is no way they could do it for their children without this show. All of the other things they get to experience with their children would never happen without it. My hat is off to all of the parents of large multiples. I have a hard enough time clothing, feeding, and entertaining (DISNEY) 2 kids, well 3 including myself! I think the product placement/kickbacks are way better than watching commercials. The products are shown in use over a longer period of time. I love watching the kids get their coats, and seeing all the different colors. In the real world, which girl would get the new coat, cause somebody's getting the twins hand me downs. I can bet they are giving all the old clothes/toys to charity, and not wasting their time with yard sales.

Whenever I hear someone complain about exploitation, I do wonder if it is a little true. Then, I think of a life at home with 8 kids:headache:
I would feel sad knowing they didn't get to experience mickey... But, wait, I'm 35 and haven't been to Hawaii yet:confused3 I can't imagine saving up to take 8 kids. I think as long as the kids want to do it, they should stay on. My kids and I love the show, and it is a much better alternative than anything else they are putting on these days, besides Disney channel, of course.:goodvibes

GOD gave them this many!!

Sorry, I think science gave them that many. I'm not sure of the statistics, but I don't know if "God" has ever given anyone 6 kids at once. Maybe there is a reason.
