I totally disagree. I don't feel at all it had anything to do with damage control. It just amazes me how that hate site uses that as an excuse when they have nothing else to complain about regarding the show. If you truly watch the older episodes Kate was just as calm and no different than in this episode. She didn't all of the sudden change for this show. And they aren't being shown using the bathroom because they are older and its improper. They made the donation because they were back to the place where it all started, and if she hadn't done anything it would have been another thing people would have blaster her about. So she cant win either way. It was also great in the hopes that people might see this and decide that they too, should donate. She mentioned the grandparents because at the time, that was who was watching and taking care of the older children. I for one was so happy to hear them mention with fondness the family. Maybe that will spark up some type of conversation between the families. And since lately the discussion has been a hate fest regarding Mady, I will say that she is entitled to privacy and no one should be commenting on a child.

Again, it always seems that all we hear is "ohh its time to pull the plug" that's all that that hate site ever says and repeats over and over. I know that this is helping secure a comfortable future for those kids, so that when the cameras do leave and people go onto the next topic, they are secure. I hope that they continue as long as they see fit, as I for one love watching the kids and the show. :cheer2:

ITA....they are damned if they do and damned if they don't.

 How do you know it was an unwritten check? How do you know they didn't fill it out before they got there? And if they had a news blurb I'm sure the haters would have picked that apart as a publicity stunt. They really can't win. :sad2:

:thumbsup2 ....I gues the naysayers have never prewritten a check before

but....

I agree, J & K were in a no-win situation-people will criticize them if they donate in front of a camera, but if they didn't show that, then people would criticize them for not donating. I am actually glad they showed the donation. I will say though, that it looked like Kate took out her checkbook still in its checkbook case and was going to write it out on the spot. To me it didn't look like it was prewritten. I really don't think that should matter at all, though! :confused3

It did look like she took out the checkbook and a pen. The actually writing and folding of the check was probably edited out

oh my...I was just reading a comment on the GWoP site about the difference in how Jon woke up Alexis and Hannah. This person said that Jon lovingly rubbed Hannah's back to wake her up and basically yelled down the stairs to wake up Alexis. Well, I just rewatched it and he woke them up the same. Maybe I was watching a difference show than the GWoP person was watching? :confused3

I thought it was funny because when he was walking out of Hannah's room when she wouldn't get up he said, "we're leaving, get whatever you want out of the pantry!!" :rotfl:

Some people have a real issue about Alexis sleeping downstairs. I'm sure they thought long and hard about it, and it seems to be working for their family so I don't understand the issue? Oh yeah...it's something to complain about!! ;)

It amazes me the things people will claim has/hasn't happened on the show, when there if footage right there that proves them wrong.

As for the people complaining about her sleeping downstairs. All those complaining must sleep on the same floor as all their children, otherwise they would all be hypocrites.;) ;)

ITA with pp. I think the producers of the show have created much of the Kate hatred. Frankly, it was just better TV to show someone with 8 kids in moments of frustration, yelling at your spouse or whatever. If cameras followed me around there would be plenty of bad moments they could edit for great viewing and leave out the things that would make me look better. For example, I would have looked like "that Mom" yesterday. As DH played with kids in the sprinkler in the backyard, I spent half the day hunting for tennis shoes for my DS who has an extra wide foot. For the cameras, DH would have looked great...but the kids still have to have shoes.

I think mostly the "drastic" change other posters talk about is a mild change and the "drastic" change is in the filming/editing.

Plus, I'm really fascinated by the people who say things like--I hope the realize it isn't worth it...really?? seriously?? 70,000 an episode. Maybe Kate didn't like Jodi that much anyway;)

If that amount is true they are worth more than 3 million. H*ll, I'll selling you my sister-in-law for 3 million.

I sleep on the same floor as all my kids ... :)

It doesn't appear that the tup that sleeps downstairs is bothered by it - you don't ever see her complaining on the show. Not that I've seen, anyway. I understand the reasoning for putting her downstairs - she was waking all the other kids up in the middle of the night? Is that right?

I have no idea what I'd do in that case, so I can't really cast any judgement there. LOL. My only thing is that I'd be concerned I couldn't hear her if she's far from the bedroom and needed help. But, they may have a baby monitor to keep an ear on her.

J&K room is on the main/ground floor. It is just as close if not closer to the basement playroom as it is to the upstairs bedrooms.

that would still concern me.... but that's a me thing. Not anti-Kate specific. LOL

One of my kids had a febrile convulsion in the middle of the night. I like to be able to hear my kids.

yea, and basement windows are easier to break in than 2nd floor windows. I just don't get why she needs her own room?

People talk like Alexis is in a cold, damp basement covered in cobwebs. She sleeps in a finished basement that they use like any other room in the house. None of the kids are on the same floor as Jon and Kate. Alexis is one flight down and the rest are one flight up.

In regards to the check, they are claiming that Figure 8 made the donation and not Jon and Kate. According to someone on GWoP, Julie has stated that any time you see money exchanged or credit cards used on the show, Figure 8 or TLC is footing the bill.

These people can't win no matter what they do.

Because she was waking up the other kids in the middle of the night.

Main floor windows are easy to break too. I guess I'm guilty of child abuse since I own a 1 story house.

ETA: I don't even recall seeing windows in the playroom. It appears to be underground. So now what, it will be a cold damp dungeon?

I would assume the check was already made out, because Kate handed it to the lady folded in half. She didn't make it into a big production. She said they couldn't afford the pay when they used the services of the Ronald McDonald House but since they now could, they wanted to pay them back. All she did was ask who she should give it to.

But hey, some are claiming that J&K didn't actually donate to the Ronald McDonald House because the size of the check looked bigger than what a person would have in their checkbook. :lmao:

I read it. They said that one of the little girls said she wanted to hold a baby and Jon replied, "You will soon" or "We'll have a baby soon." They also said that Kate said she was pregnant on the way into the hospital. Maybe they ran different footage in different cities :confused3

I can't believe all the negatives that people are posting (not here) about this episode.

Kate pregnant???!!!!!!!!:confused3 :confused3 :confused3 :confused3 :confused3 :confused3

I didn't care for last night's episode. It had nothing to with Kate being annoying (she really wasn't to me), the check handling (awkward maybe but a great charity regardless), the kids not being totally adorable (they are)...I just felt bored.

I thought the tone was odd. There wasn't much hoopla at the hospital for the state's only sextuplets, the staff didn't seem to be in reunion mode. Maybe it was just me. Maybe that's what they wanted.

The OB (I think) didn't seem to know they were in the OR filming. I was in and out (of consciousness) but totally missed the story on the condo. Did they say it was a time share? Did they really all go into the NICU? Siblings aren't even allowed in ours.

I did think Kate seemed sincere on the interview couch and was really thankful her babies (no more!) are healthy and gorgeous! Like for all of us moms, looking back is not easy sometimes. :sad1:

I'm pretty sure I made it clear I wasn't bashing Kate .. I simply don't agree with their sleeping arrangements house-wide, not Alexis specific. Because I have to tell you, it would drive me batty if one of my kids was waking up their siblings in the middle of the night. I'm not sure what I'd do.

After my son's convulsion, my husband & I decided we wouldn't have a house where we don't sleep on the same floor as our children.

I really need to watch this episode, or at least FF to the part where they make this donation. LOL

There is probably a certain amount of truth to the money/Figure8 thing, though. I'm not saying it's true in the case of this donation, but for other things related to production? I'd say it's accurate. You rarely, if ever, see the Gosselins pay for anything on-air. I'm sure that's all arranged through the production company.

These people can't win no matter what they do.

Jon & Kate invited people into their lives, and with that they will have to accept the praise and the criticism. It would seem to me that comes with the territory of being on TV.... at this point, IMO, they will never win.

Win what, anyway? For all we know, Jon & Kate may absolutely feel like winners. LOL

but totally missed the story on the condo. Did they say it was a time share

It's not a timeshare..or if it is, they don't own it. It was the condo they rented when the sixpack were first born, while their first house was under construction (IIRC). They had special memories of the condo because they spent several months there after the babies were born and it was the first place they brought them 'home' to.

I didn't say you were bashing Kate. I didn't quote anyone regarding my comment. I read GWoP and other sites and I have read comments from many people saying how horrible and abusive it is to have poor Alexis in the basement. Sorry if it came across as if I were speaking about one of your posts.

Regarding Kate being pregnant. I read a thread here and at GWoP. People are claiming that either Kate is pregnant or they are adopting a baby because of this line they say they heard during the show. I don't remember hearing it, but I don't watch as closely as some do apparently.

I know you didn't quote me, but I had just given an opinion ... I wasn't sure if you were making a reference to my thoughts at all. I get a little sensitive, sometimes. Especially when I'm giving an opposing view that really, truly isn't intended as bashing. Not even a little bit. LOL

Of the things that bother me about the show, Alexis sleeping in the basement is not one of them. :rotfl: It seems to be a reasonable solution that works for them, for a problem that affects the whole family.

Believe me, after reading other boards, I don't see much of what anyone says here as bashing. I enjoy the discussions here because people can remain civil even when they disagree on certain points.

Actually at the beginning they were talking about going to visit the hospital and Jon said we're going back to "our timeshare" where we stayed near the hospital. I remember thinking, now people will go crazy thinking J & K own a timeshare, when really I think he just meant the place where they stayed. Later on they referred to the "condo" staff but he definitely called it a timeshare at the beginning.

I really enjoyed last night's episode showing the children the hospital. Jon and Kate were so sweet remembering all they've been through and you can tell how much they love their kids. I happen to be a big fan, as I know many are and some not so much..lol..but it seemed to me that we are now seeing a calmer Kate and a little softer side of her. I happen to like her and think she is an awesome mom! Jon is a great dad, too...very involved. Makes me wonder if they are reading these boards and trying to change a bit...lol...maybe not, but I'm really enjoying these episodes lately!

Maybe they do these things and maybe they don't. My girls have alot of friends/phone calls but they are teenagers. I saw on one show when Maddy had a friend call her so it does happen. When my girls were Maddy and Cara's age the phone didn't ring for them all that often.

The twins are only 7, some people just don't let their 7 year olds hang out at friend's houses all the time.
I agree. My 8 year old does not get many phone calls from friends either. It's not because she doesn't have them. Endless yacking on the phone is just not appropriate for the age.

I am a JK8 "fan" I guess. I don't not like them. Most of the time, it's a fun show. However, in some places it is against fire code to have "a bedroom" in the basement without windows for fire evacuation purposes.
