Jon and Kate Plus 8. Official Thread!!

From what I've read on other sites, they make about $70k an episode (and they've done 60+ episodes). They probably haven't made $70k/episode since the beginning... but they do now.

Also, they get paid $25k plus all travel expenses for speaking engagements.
And there are other perks, like free trips, car seats, clothes, etc

Well that's good, if they are saving and investing properly, then we don't need to worry about Jon being unempoyable when the gravy train stops.

rewatching the cupcake show ... I've seen it before, but it's been a while. I'm sort of taking notes through this post as I watch ;)

~ Kate asks one of the little girls what they'll do after they make the cupcakes, and the child answers that you eat them. Kate doesn't correct her by saying no, you'll eat them after dinner (edited to add: after dinner like we do every night)

~ Not a fan of Kate belittling her daughter over the shoe. Hated it the first time, hate it the second time. Jon is carrying the shoes out of church, so they made a compromise somewhere.

~ Kate, sitting there, with arms folded while the bakery girl is explaining the process ... bad body language. I didn't think she was overly rude, exactly? But she was sort of short in how she answered the lady. It's clear this activity is someone else's idea. LOL.

~ pointing out the boys' dirty nails.

~ OMG, those kids are SOOO stinkin' cute! :)

~ Kate was really concerned about the messiness in this show, wasn't she? wow.

~ Now, just before commercial, Kate makes the comment about it being just like any other day ... no dinner, no dessert. It's almost as if she's setting up what's about to come. I guess they do the interviews after the show is shot, though, so that makes sense.

~ There are a lot of bakery boxes on the counter ... wow. LOLOL

~ Why does a 4-year old need help eating? And why did the girl tup get help and not the boys? And the boys have to sit at the table, while their sisters eat their cupcakes and in the background you can hear Jon say, "Happy Birthday, guys" :(

~ The argument about seasons was stupid, but nowhere near the drama that GWoP made it out to be.

All in all, my thoughts haven't changed on this episode. :lmao:

And do they really eat dessert every night, do you think? Seriously? No judging it or anything like that at all ... we don't make a big fuss about eating dessert ever night as part of our meal routine. Desserts are more of a special occasion thing at our house.

Oh madge - PLEASE don't turn into one of THOSE posters who takes notes on every episode! LOL.

(just when I thought you were one of the few voices of reason from the "dark" side!);)

I agree, outside of WDW, I'm sure the kids could care less about the other trips, oh, except maybe the beach trip. And at WDW, they were like 3 at the time, I'm sure they don't even remember it, and if they have a memory, it is probably of being tortured by mom with icecream as they cried.

Today my DD got in trouble for chasing the dog around the house with her "light saber" aka my vacuum cleaner attachments. I took it away and sent her to her room. She was so very sad. Tears and everything. I'm pretty sure that at the end of the day though, she'll remember walking to the park and running home so we didn't get rained on too much before she'll remember crying over her light saber.

I'm pretty sure Jon and Kate's kiddos will remember meeting the Princesses and the Princess, more than the ice cream fiasco. They only showed a very tiny portion of their Disney trip. Didn't she say they were there a week or so? And they only showed a little bit of footage at the Magic Kingdom? That's a lot of time for great memories (even for 3 year olds) to take place and cover up the ice cream incident.

LOL! I was just sitting here, laptop in front of me and TV on. :happytv:

That's all it was, I promise!!

Pretty sure DS got in trouble at Disney. I know he was Grumpy when we were at AK. Guess what, though. He doesn't talk about getting in trouble. He talks about Mickey. And every. other. character. every. day. every. single. day. I can't even remember why he got in trouble. The only reason I think about it is because we took a picture of his sour face. Call the authorities because I put a camera in DS's face when he didn't want it there!! (KIDDING!!!)

I think I may have mentioned this before, but what a great record of the kids' early days!! It would have been really hard for them to chase eight kids and hold a video camera. I really do think the kids will enjoy watching these memories when they are older. I know DS3 loves to watch himself "when he was little" (because he's so old now ).

I really loved last night's episode. I was very touched and found myself getting choked up a couple of times. I thought it was so sweet when Kate held up each child and showed them where their bed was. When Kate got teary at the end, I got teary with her. I don't think they're perfect, and I definitely don't agree with everything they do, but it is very evident that they love and treasure their children, and what mom can't relate to that?

I also really liked hearing Kate refer to her mom, and tell the twins that they were at "Grandmoms house." I wonder if this is possibly a way to reach out? I'm SURE the estranged family members watch the show- wouldn't you? No matter what happened between Kate and her parents, I'm sure they watch the show just as a way to see their grandchildren.

I, too, got very choked up watching last night's show.

I found it very emotional listening to Kate talk about how fortunate they were to have six babies in the NICU who were thriving while others had only one - and many of those did not survive. Unfortunately I spent the first three months of one of my DD's life in a NICU - and you find yourself surrounded by alot of sadness. Really makes you appreciate what you have. I could tell Kate truly knows blessed they are.

I missed last night's episode (again...I have got to stop working Monday nights ....I hate missing the new episodes!) Does anyoneknow when it airs again?

Usually they repeat Monday's episodes on Wed.nights. Check your tv guide!

I'm not a Kate fan but I loved last night's new show. I was very moved by both Jon and Kate talking about simpler times before the tups. I have no doubt that they have been challenged over and over and sometimes have not made the best decisions but they also have 8 beautiful children and are thankful for that.
If this show was damage control (and in some ways I do believe it was), I'm okay with that. I think the producers have in fact created a lot of the hate people feel for Jon and Kate with the editing. It's only right they show them doing some good things as balance.

I still get annoyed with Kate and that's not going to change at all.

JUST KIDDING!!! See, that's why this is the best JK8 thread!! We're not stubborn all the time!!

The Disney trips was a week and they only showed the first and last day. So there was time in between with no cameras. The same with the NC trip, the swimming instructors said in an aticle that they taught them for 2 weeks, one on camera and one private after everyone, including Jenny was sent home. So once again I seriously doubt any child will remember fighting over ice cream. But my daughter still talks about when we went stayed any the Poly at age 3. I don't think people remember that these trips are only filmed for a short time they are actually there.popcorn::

Did any of you who read GWoP see where the posters over there were talking about how apparently when in the NICU they were saying something about "we'll have a baby soon" or something like that?

I didn't notice it on the episode, because I was working on a project at the same time, but did anyone here pick up on that?

Now I want to see that one again!

Assuming that what was posted on other sites is accurate of course.

I didn't like the way the donation was handled with Kate pulling out an unwritten check and discussing the donation to the camera.
I would assume the check was already made out, because Kate handed it to the lady folded in half. She didn't make it into a big production. She said they couldn't afford the pay when they used the services of the Ronald McDonald House but since they now could, they wanted to pay them back. All she did was ask who she should give it to.

But hey, some are claiming that J&K didn't actually donate to the Ronald McDonald House because the size of the check looked bigger than what a person would have in their checkbook. :lmao:

I read it. They said that one of the little girls said she wanted to hold a baby and Jon replied, "You will soon" or "We'll have a baby soon." They also said that Kate said she was pregnant on the way into the hospital. Maybe they ran different footage in different cities :confused3

I can't believe all the negatives that people are posting (not here) about this episode.

I haven't seen the episode yet - and wish I had waited to read comments (here or anywhere else), so I could make up my own mind about this week's show.

But there could be an explanation to this check mystery?

It could have been a cashier's check?
