Jon and Kate Plus 8 Official Thread - Part 8

I'm very surprised that the +8 didn't appear in the audience of DWTS! I know everytime Kate opened her mouth she had to tell everyone she has 8 kids. I thought she looked quite awkward yesterday when they announced Nicole as the winner and Kate went up to hug her and Nicole had this blank stare on her face. Its like the 1st one voted out of survivor--no one remembers them very well. I think Kate alienated enough people on that show to last a lifetime. I don't think even Derek could of made a dancer out of Kate. Hair, makeup and costumes didn't do her any favors either. Well if Kate plus 8 or Twisted Kate doesn't work out their is always that "cougar" show that would be perfect for her. :happytv:

This is not the first place I've heard the cougar reference. Why does she seem so old and frumpy when she is in her 30's and far from a cougar? I can't put my finger on it. She's 10? years younger than Shannen D. and Pam A. but seemed older to me. Is it her dorky ways? The sun damage? We've been down this road before! :confused3

I thought on the final of DWTS, Kate looked awful. I don't know if it was jet lag, or poor makeup, but she did not look attractive. I think she dresses inappropriate for her age. She looked ridiculous in the photos at Discovery Cove in that tiny bikini. She seems to always have the wrong clothes on to film all the time. Its just like when they were going in a hot air balloon and she had high heels on to trudge through a field?? I actually think she was more attractive in the early episodes of J & K before all the cosmetic procedures. She needed the belly fixed, but just because its fixed doesn't mean she has to show it everytime she wears a bathing suit. :rolleyes1

The latest Open Letter from Paul Petersen: http://www.minorcon.org/tlc1.html

He is a powerful advocate for all children in the entertainment industry, and I don't just say that because I had a crush on Jeff Stone back in my teens. :upsidedow

Also, I can't remember whether this was posted before, but he refers to it in the open letter so it is relevant -- The letter from the DOL to TLC back in March:

I still think it's strange that TLC and J&K weren't penalized in any way for the lack of permits for past seasons of the show. This investigation stated that yes, the Gosselin kids are working, they are employed by TLC and receive payment for the show. Therefore they needed permits. Yet nobody was penalized? Makes me wonder if perhaps a deal was worked out behind closed doors. It's just surprising because in order to work as a minor, you need a permit. And it was concluded that all of the Gosselin kids were working. I also found it interesting that they deemed the Gosselin home a place of employment...'an establishment is any place within this Commonwealth where work is done for compensation of any kind, to whomever payable'.

Hi, Mousey:wave2:

I missed the final of DWTS and haven't got around to watching it yet, the suspense has gone because now I know who won. I think Kate is a naturally pretty woman, and agree she looked better in the old days and with short hair. But then, I assumed I was just being old fashioned and what do I know?:). Some of the clothing and makeup choices are probably due to a stylist, everyone in public life seems to hire one these days, and on DWTS Wardrobe probably controlled the costumes and wilder makeup.

I also think it very strange that TLC was not penalized, and so did the Legislative Committee at Representative Murt's hearing in April. If you watch the video (sorry I don't seem to have the link anymore but I'll try to find it if you want) the DOL representative on the hot seat looked totally humiliated while being bombarded with very pointed questions from the committee. The DOL messed up in many areas.

That said, it is not unusual for a regulatory agency (I used to work for one) to negotiate an agreement. Generally, the goal is to get compliance not to penalize people - especially on a first offence. In this case, to have fined (or even jailed ) the parents would have been against the best interest of the children, and technically it was their responsibility not TLC's to have pulled the work permits although, again technically, TLC should have not filmed without them. I do wish the DOL had gone after TLC much harder. Perhaps the new legislation will have more teeth. I hope it passes.

I don't think the new article in people magazine is going to do Kate any favors, does she even have a publicist to guide her through the media?

people.com has the article that discusses her life a year later after the divorce. I find it ridiculous that she expects her children to cut her some slack for the fact that SHE had a rough year, even if she thinks she's going to turn over a new leaf now.

And it's covers like this that just re-enforce the fact that Kate is clueless about her kids' privacy. I'm thoroughly disgusted that she's got them on the cover of people and talking about how they're handling the divorce over the last year. Kate, wake up and realize that your kids aren't going to think it's fabulous they were on People where you talked about how they are coping with their parent's divorce. How does she not realize this? I'm just 100% baffled and apparently she's 100% blind. Sorry ladies, but this kind of behavior makes me ill because it involves these children dealing with divorce. I have a real soft spot for children of divorce, as I've said before, and this is just the complete opposite of helping them deal with it. I can tell you that I'd be very angry if my mom had a pic of my sister and I on the cover of People and proceeded to tell the magazine (and subsequently the world) how we were coping. I know I'm speculating about the Gosselin kids' future reaction but I can't help but feel that this isn't going to be a positive thing for them and it makes me sad. And I'm sure it's no coincidence that this cover of People is coming out right before the start of Kate+8.:sad2:

Maybe if Kate was home more, she wouldn't had forgotten to sign the girls up for the school function. Guess Kate will have to get an assistant to handle all these things for her.

I have to agree about her thinking the kids should cut her some slack, PLEASE kids are kids and YOU are the adult, you can handle it better and you understand, the kids don't !!! I will never understand why some chose to put their kids in the middle of that mess instead of trying to make life as normal as possible!:sad2:

Exactly right. Kate is the adult and kids (especially young ones like the Gosselins) don't fully understand the reasons for divorce. They are probably confused, hurting and miss Jon. I just can't reititerate enough what an enormous adjustment it is to go from parents together to parents apart. And kids handle it in different ways. For my sister, she wrote a book about it. Me, I was extremely angry, confused and hurt. My mom forced me to go to counseling which I thought was ridiculous. At the very 1st session, I broke down and cried the entire time. It's so hard for younger ones to understand why mom and dad aren't together anymore. Some kids even think (like my sister) that if mom and dad can stop loving each other than they can stop loving their kids too.

Kate may be having a rough time of it, but her kids need/deserve all that she has right now. Same goes for Jon. They should be doing all in their power to help them adjust and offer reassurance. Putting them on the cover of People and talking about how they are coping isn't going to accomplish that.

I think that it is impossible to un-do what has already been done and "start over" like she wants when they will still be in the media spotlight. New shows, same network, same spotlight and same clueless Mom at the wheel to count all the money.

Kate wants to be in the spotllight so she doesn't care who she exploits to get there. She is her own worst enemy. Everyone is feeling sorry for her having to support her 8 kids and the only way is for her to make a fool out of herself on shows like DWTS and her crying interviews here and there. She has no talent, never did, no acting experience, that's obvious and just not a very well liked person. Mommie Dearest needs to spend some time at home with her kids and get to know them instead of bribing them with free vacations as long as they are filmed. :rolleyes1

I think what is disturbing is her attitude about filming the kids. She claims that the paparazzi are there anyway, why not get paid to film then.:confused3 Bizarre logic.

It didn't bother me that she did DWTS, lots of celeb moms have done so. Sure, she can't dance but she did make a boatload of $ for humiliating herself. And it didn't involve the kids. Well, unless you count her plug for Kate+8 on Monday night. She is accustomed to a certain lifestyle and working as a nurse isn't going to pay for it. And she knows that.

Have you all read the article already..is it posted somewhere? I didn't see it at the market.
I've only seen the teasers so far.

It hit the newstands tonight, so I read it in the store when I went for milk. It was a lot shorter article than I thought it would be for a cover.
I was expecting a lot more personal stuff, from the teasers. There was so much more I expected her to share, from the mouths of babes, and I'm glad she didn't. I'm happy she is encouraging them to call their dad, and glad their dad is in their lives. I was afraid it would be easier for him to fade away. Considering what more could have been in the article, this was sort of 'careful'. I hope she continues to be careful in what she says.
Kids look so much older, especially the twins, and still so cute. I hope they had a blast at Disney.
I wonder how many specials they will be doing, and how often they will be on TV.

Having seen the teasers here for the latest People, and quite curious myself, I googled for more information.

Preesi,a poster here in the past because the name seems familiar, or perhaps someone linked to her site in the past, has the edition scanned on her blog.

http://preesi.lefora.com/2010/05/27/truly-nauseatingly-staged-people-june-7th-2010-sca/

Read it and weep. For the kids.

:headache::headache::headache:
When are they just going to go away already!!!!!!!??????????
I don't want to have to see this woman on the newstands anymore! Bleh!!!!
She is disgusting and shameless.

I saw the cover today, while waiting in line at the grocery. This is no fault of Kate's ... but I can't not mention how terrible the editing of the picture is. yikes. Too much phototshop for my tastes. And I'd say that, no matter what my opinion of her or who was on the cover. :upsidedow

OMG, I just finished watching the clip of Kate and kids at Discovery Cove. I can't believe that those kids are still having those melt downs. They are way too old for this.

I took mine, and my youngest was younger than the tups, and there was no meltdown. And Mady with the wet suit. Get over it. No wet suit no swim. I am so glad she isn't my child. I will say that Kate is a saint when it comes to Mady. I just couldn't take that child

And since when do 6 year olds require naps. Sure sometimes they fall asleep, but "nap time". That is unreal to me. What do they do in school.

Also, she may have "been down her helper" but Steve was still there. He can be an extra set of hands. Most people when they say they are dong it by themselves, they mean it, not with the help of a body guard.

That must be really fun for the kids to be filmed the entire time while on vacation. If their mother wasn't so full of herself she would take them on a normal vacation where they could relax and have fun without the cameras. Oh wait, then she would have to fork over some money for that and that means one less pedicure or spa treatment for Mommy Dearest!
