Jon and Kate Plus 8 Official Thread - Part 8

It's none of our busines and I do mean that literally.

Yes we may be privy to their lives and gossip and get in theri business. But it has been years since the right to vote was earned and Rosie Riveter graced posters.

It isn't really our place though to dictate what she can and cannot do for a living even if she is Kate Gosseline. B/c then we are trying to dictate what all women can do and that ain't right.

I don't think personally this is a "hate kate issue". As stated in the prior post--it's b/c she's a woman and a mom and Jon would not have an issue b/c he is a man. Our personal biases are bleeding in on what the role of the female and the role of a male in the family.

Are you a mom?

Do you work or stay at home?

How would you feel if I were to suggest to you, what *I* feel is better for your children? And to make it easy--what I suggest will be OPPOSITE of whatever you feel is best for your children.

Something to think about in your efforts to suggest that Kate follow a path that you feel might be better.

What? I think you're going off on a huge tangent. One that is likely to get this thread closed IMO. Of course you can post what you want, as can I. And that's all I'm going to say. :goodvibes

I wasn't trying to be insulting. I'm just wonderig how you feel it is okay to suggest that Kate cannot be anything other than what you feel is appropriate.

It isn't a tangent. You are certainly entitled to your opinion. I was just wanting you to explain it.

I can understand why you won't answer though.

The whole place is getting too judgemental of Jon and Kate for my taste anyway.

Maybe it works that way where you live, but it doesn't here. As much as you read about how much they need nurses, unless you get a job in a doc's office (where the pay is nowhere as good,in fact it's horrible compared to some other jobs) the hours can be long and you don't get to pick them for the first few years, and you seldom get out right at the time you are scheduled. You seldom get done when you should. My best friend works in the local ER per diem..and even she has less/different hours than she would like, and she's been there for 20 years.
My daughter is a visiting nurse, and her hours are during school hours, but they are also on weekends. She feels lucky, that she doesn't have to worry about a babysitter (past that) but if she still had to pay a sitter, it would put a serious dent in her paycheck.

We wanted the kids off the show, they are off the show. Now Kate may not get to be with them as often as we would like, but it's like that all over the US for kids who don't live with both parents.

Actually, the one shift most "new" nurses need to pick up is the night shift. Wouldn't that be ideal for Kate? She could work at night and sleep during the day while her kids are at school. Hospital nurses make a decent salary. Of course, I have to insert a Ha! Ha! here, because it's all relative. Once you've been living a lavish lifestyle such as Kate, a nurse's salary probably seems like poverty.

My neighbor (who lives in a huge house- again, all relative) is a divorced Mom and a nurse who works the night shift. She has 6 kids. Her husband helps her out financially and with the kids and they make it work. It's not impossible, but something tells me that's not the road Kate will be taking.

Not being a hater!!! Just being realistic.

To me it is irrelevant that she is a mother and that she receives this judgement accordingly.

considering no one would have ever heard of Kate Gosselin if she wasn't a mother, I'm not sure I would agree with that. I mean, the show, the speeches, the books .. they're all written from a mother's perspective. She's a mother in the public eye, and someone who is already the focus of scrutiny. Why would this change?

I don't think this is a "hate kate" issue. at least it isn't for me. It really has nothing to do with gender at all, as far as I'm concerned. I can't imagine either of them on their own TLC show, :rotfl:

but you are right, Lisa. It isn't anyone's business. At least it shouldn't be. However, Kate continues (until very recently) to give interviews about how not only does she need to provide for the children, but how she wants to be in television/movies/etc ... she's the one that continues to keep it out there for public consumption. what people choose to do with that information is up to them. There will always be people out there that want Kate to fail miserably, just as there are people out there who think she can do absolutely no wrong.

Yikes...I go away for a day or two and all heck's braking loose again! :headache:

OT - Today's my baby's third birthady!! :cheer2:

Back on topic - how many episodes were actually "completed" this season and what obligations (if any) or impact would not completing the season have on the contract that has been signed? I'm sure they're not getting paid while they're not filming (we've read that in an article here right??) so TLC's not out the money but would they have some kind of consiquence (sp? too early for big words! LOL) for not standing up to what they'd agreed to in the contract?? Also, what about sponsored trips and such? I wonder if that will affect TLC's earnings for the year so far. Like, if a sponsor has already paid $X00,000 for 20 spots on the show (just amde up numbers - I have no idea what the agreement is!), TLC would have to pay the "unused" money back I would assume or try and make a deal to put them on another show for more advertising time or something like that I would think.....

Busy day at work today as we have a speaker here (Rick Lasky - firefighter, who doesn't cost NEARLY what Kate has alledegly asked for to speak somewhere!) at work and family birthday party tonight with the "fun" kid party tomorrow at Chuck E Cheese! Have a super weekend everyone if I don't make it back today!! Try and be nice - treat others how you'd like to be treated!! :flower3:

I think you hit the nail on the head. The only thing Kate is famous for is having 8 kids. Other than being a nurse she has no talent. Heck she probably needs to refresh on a lot of her nursing skills. Hospital nurses make decent money and they get paid extra to work the night shift. If she is honest about "I will do anything for my kids" she will make whatever job she ends up with work. Single mothers do it everyday and that is without a nanny, housekeeper, groundskeepers, security, etc........

In regards to a previous poster not liking that I compared Kate to Oprah--believe me, it was a joke. There is no way I would compare Kate to Oprah. That would be the biggest insult anyone ever gave Oprah. I meant that with Oprah ending her show that Kate could take her slot--:lmao:

The whole place is getting too judgemental of Jon and Kate for my taste anyway.

I mostly agree with you that a mom can pursue whatever life she wishes. But, THIS mother has always professed to doing everything for her kids. And someone who says that, but then spends much time away from them just doesn't hold up for me. The job can be for her and that's fine but Kate would never admit that b/c it doesn't go with her image of Supermom doing it all alone for 8 kids. Her fortune is built on that premiss.

Regular moms who have demanding or high profile jobs probably don't go around proclaiming how selfless they are and how they have to have things and do things b/c of the kids (like a giant house or a new kitchen). They own that this is the life they want and the kids are along for the ride. Which is fine, again, but the delusions get to me with Kate.

I don't know if the court case will spark more interest, but I think J & K's 15 min. will definately be over after Monday's show. If the footage is as bad as this weeks, it will definately be over. For TLC being on Kate's side, they certainly didn't do her any favors. The kids seemed more happy and at ease with Jon at the baseball game. The restaurant scene with Kate was a bit much. They are 5 yrs old and they can't order there own kid meals. :confused3

Hey MOUSEY!! I walked away and you came back - LOL.. Good to see you again.. Heard the buzz via PM that Kate definitely had a show and had to pop in to see what it was.. I'm not seeing anything "definite" though.. Did I miss it?

When I wote and asked the publisher about the book, I got a form letter saying it is still a project and they hoped it would still be printed. I'd be surprised once the show is canceled if that happens. I"m not sure there would be enough interest in it.

That's a shame that you only received a "form" letter.. Each time that I wrote to the publisher, I had a list of very pointed questions and concerns - and each one was specifically addressed and answered to my satisfaction - via a direct email by a real, live person - not computer generated blanket response..

Bottom line is the book is pretty much dead in the water and the one she claims to be working on now doesn't appear to have a publisher lined up for it .. I don't think "writing" books is going to be what keeps her afloat..

Just being realistic.

Isn't/wasn't Kate some sort of "specialty" nurse? If so, that would increase her odds of getting a higher paying position..

She could also do private duty - either at night or while the kids are in school.. That can generate a very ample salary.. I have two friends who do that - one is an RN and the other is only an LPN.. The salary is pretty amazing if you are able to hook up with the right clients..:thumbsup2

I didn't watch, so I don't know what did or didn't happen.. I think the "fame" part has been over for both of them for quite some time now.. Basically they have become the world's biggest "joke" in the field of entertainment (if you can even call it entertainment)..

I personally think that TLC wants to develop a show for Kate because she is so controversial.. As long as people watch - either because they like her or they don't like her - TLC makes money.. And if Kate is made to look like an idiot because of it? Too bad, so sad.. (TLC's attitude - not mine..)

I will be happy to see both Jon and Kate get jobs - no matter what field they choose - as long as it doesn't involve filming the kids or causing the kids any more shame and embarrassment than they have already had to endure..

It's time for these parents to grow up and support their children on their own and if that involves a change in lifestyle (for either of them) - leaving the mansion, not having all the perks, etc. - well - that's what responsible parents do..:goodvibes

I couldn't have said it better myself. I would be fine if Kate would just admit that she wants this and it is for her and not the kids. Sure the kids would benefit from it as far as being able to provide nice things, but just admit that it is your dream and even if she didn't have kids she would still have this dream. I don't believe she is doing EVERYTHING for the kids, and I am ok with that, just ADMIT IT. I mean she wants to do a voice over for an animated movie for her kids. That is crazy, just say you would love to be in the movies and leave the kid part out, and she would have more respect from me.

Also side note, I was watching her the other day, and she was talking about making the girls birthday cake "from scratch" which is fine, but she acts like it is a big deal, well my 10 year old daughter got out the hershey's can and made a from scratch cake all by herself and yes I mean all by herself , All I did was put it in the oven and take it out. She said, I don't why Kate thinks it is such a big deal, it was easy. Out of the mouths of babes. lol

madge - I'm still here with you! :goodvibes

not sure if anyone is still reading this thread... but, Mr. Lohan decided today's the day that he's throwing Jon Gosselin under the bus....

http://www.radaronline.com/sites/default/files/LohanFeeDoc.pdf

When did Jon run around signing and writing all of these contracts??? Did the sleezey attorney just sneak them in with the divorce paperwork and Jon not realize it? Or did he not learn from not having representation the first time with TLC that signing contracts without having someone else look over them and reading them yourself is not a good plan??? He could have come here and asked for us! There's enough of us here (like redrosesix) who could have told him it was a bad idea in legal terms and all of us could have told him it was a bad idea just on common sense purposes! :headache:

I've heard her say that before and I have to admit that I busted out laughing..:lmao:

That's "Kate" speak for, "See how hard it is that I have to do everything for my kids ALONE??"

I wonder if the "scratch" was really "scratch" - or she had to open a Duncan Hines box and follow the directions as opposed to ordering a cake from a bakery? ;)

I have a feeling, before it's all said and done, Jon Gosselin is going to be very sorry he ever met Michael Lohan. He's all sorts of crazy and doesn't care who he brings down with him, obviously. Yikes.

I promise not to talk about Kate anymore if someone will come back and explain that contract to me. :upsidedow

Yikes! Dexter? He's a serial killer on HBO.

Sounds like Mom isn't so keen on her dating Jon.

Hi C.Ann--yes I'm back. I love your red ink--its so colorful.
Yes, I feel the same way about the made from scratch cake---WOW!!! When you think about it, I hope Kara & Mady have a role in the kitchen when the cameras aren't on. They are at that age where they want to help.

In regards to Monday's episodes, you didn't miss a thing. When they say they scraped stuff together, it was pathetic. One child wanted to do gymnastics so all 8 are forced into it. Kate takes them to a restaurant to eat and I don't know if its just me, but those kids don't eat much. Kate ordered 2 orders of chicken, 2 orders of french fries and some broccoli for 6 kids?? I would think those boys are developing an appetite. Never fear, Jon took them to a baseball game in Reading and they ate out the concession stand. They must of tried everything and more on the menu. I was actually happy for them. They seemed hungry. It ends with the repeat of the Ronald McDonald house (where they took the scooter to be raffled off) and Kate prepared a meal and announced that it was ready for the residents and it was prepared by Jon & kate plus 8 minus Jon:confused3

I can't imagine what they will be showing on Monday. :woohoo:

So...since I haven't seen much discussion of this link, my opinion is that this is just a standard agency contract. My DH is a musician, and the music business works pretty much the same way -- when you're just starting out you get a manager, and they do everything. As you get more work, an agent is signed with to handle appearances, concerts, interviews, sponsorships etc. -- very busy bands/musicians may also have a booking agent too. The manager at that point is really just the quarterback which determines the direction of his client's career.

Agents and managers have exclusive contracts with their clients, such that if somebody calls the celeb up directly and offers them a gig, interview, appearance, etc. a cut still goes to the agent and manager. That is all that those superfluous words are saying.

A couple of things stand out -- first, it's not signed so there's no proof that anybody but Michael Lohan thought it was a good idea. Second, it's a contract between Lohan and Heller -- Jon may not even have been aware of it until now. Lastly, agent or manager contracts have a defined expiry date (just like TV contracts or recording deals) -- this contract may not even have been valid since it didn't have that.

Oooh...I would definitely have told Jon to stay away from anyone connected to Michael Lohan -- the way that guy is trying to become famous based on how much trouble his daughter is in is just creepy.

But I think we could advise Jon on just about anything better than anybody he's had so far, even Kate. :lmao:

Although I am liking the new lawyer that is going up against TLC with him.
