Jon and Kate Plus 8 Official Thread - Part 6

Its comments like this that Kate makes behind the scenes that makes me not sympathize with her. It just seems like after every book signing, appearance, interview someone leaks a comment she makes and it just goes to show her true colors. I believe these comments happened. She comes across as being very know it all.

Unfortunately, it seems like she always does say something wrong. IMO she is believing her own hype and that has gotten a lot of stars in trouble -- the smart ones know that if they're not the most talented performer, they have to be easy to work with. But where does Kate get off thinking she has a right to make public comments ie. not at home and to a friend (or on the Dis threads) about Kathy Lee Gifford who IMO has had a much more successful career?

At least Spongebob is entertaining!:thumbsup2

If kate is really, really worried about providing for the kids there are several things she could do:

1. sell the big estate and buy a reasonably priced, reasonably sized house. I know a lot of large families that live in about 3500 square feet around here
(families of 7, 7, 8, 10 kids) and they manage to survive! This would also cut down on expenses--less utilities, taxes, upkeep, morgage payments, etc.--by a huge amount each month!
2. move closer to the school
3. get a job during school hours. As a nurse she should have good earning potential.
4. sell the high price vehicles and get a good used vehicle that can transport everyone
5. set a budget and stick to it!
6. use some of the interest income on their earnings to help supplement the budget
7. stop using paper goods so much! That eats up a lot of dollars and the oldest two can help wash and dry; in fact so can the younger ones if Kate uses plastic ware.

good tips. They actually only have 1 vehicle that can transport all of the kids.

These are good tips but I really don't think they apply to J&K in their world. They've been living the celeb life for some time now and as Kate says they 'can only go forward, we can't go back.' These seem like normal tips for someone who was truly concerned about living paycheck to paycheck. Having said that, Kate probably does really mean what she says, that they need the show for the $. In her mind (I'm totally speculating of course) all of those things are necessary...the large home, new cars, paper plates and so on for them to live. It's pretty relative when you think about it. How many families would cut back in some areas that they consider frivolous (Starbucks for instance;)) while others consider it part of their lifestyle and not negotiable. Maybe she truly believes that without the show, they would be in financial trouble. It's hard to say for sure. I'm having a difficult time believing it's true.

You're probably right. They need the show to live in the style they've grown accustomed to. If her children really were her priority, she could take some time off at least from the extra work -- there's no reason she would be less successful with another TV show or book a year later.

If you go to the Today Show website, you can see the video interview between Kathie Lee and Hoda. I'm not sure exactly when J & K are brought up but its somewhere around the 10 min. mark.

thanks. I did a quick search earlier and couldn't find it.

Kathie Lee is not a fan of how Kate is handling this, she never really has been.

Kate should learn to use her best whisper voice when speaking about people's parents. LOL.

Well, it's really no surprise. Kate has already stated that there is never enough money. She meant it. It shows in all of her actions. It's a shame though, that money will never buy her the truly valuable things in life. But I don't think she is aware of or wants those things anyway.

I think this is a trap that a lot of parents fall into -- maybe not for the same reasons as Kate, though -- so busy providing what they think their family needs that they don't provide what their child needs.

For example, at Christmas time so many parents work overtime to pay for all of the expensive gifts that they never get to experience the wonder of the first snowflakes, how they taste when they fall into your child's mouth, the magical experience of baking (and trashing the kitchen), the sparkle in their eyes when they see Santa at the mall (for the 5th time that week) and the joy of your child buying specially selected presents for the people that they love. IMO Kate writing books, doing talk shows, and traveling all over the country to publicize the show does not make her a good mother -- exactly the opposite. Most kids would be happy to wear hand-me-down clothes if they could only get some undivided attention from their parents.

Having nearly lost my DD when she was 5, it has made me treasure every moment we have together. She is only a year older than the twins, but I know that her time spent with me is limited -- even when she's a teenager she won't be spending these moments with me anymore but she will have these memories to look back on when she does. Being a parent IMO is a wonderful experience if you can just pause to breathe in the moment, to really be "there" for your child. The noise of children playing becomes like music when you realize that it is the sound of children being alive -- how horrible life would be if that sound were to disappear. So I never wish for silence.

JMHO, Kate (and probably Jon too) is missing all of this. She is so lucky to be able to afford help to give her the time to spend with her kids -- unfortunately she has others taking care of her children so she is using the help to give her time away from her kids.

This was one of the most heart-warming posts I've read on here. It's actually making me emotional right now!:goodvibes I loved it. You perfectly expressed how I feel about my own kids. I love to hear the sound of them playing, to bake with them during the holidays, take them to see Santa and watch them enjoy new experiences. Their childhood is such a small, small part of their lives. I swear, if you blink then you'll miss it because it really will go so quickly. That's why I purposely slow down and enjoy them.

I agree that J&K are probably missing this too. They have the luxury of getting to be home with their kids and yet Jon is in NY and Kate is doing talk shows, interviews, etc. Especially during this difficult time for the kids too. I don't get it anymore. :sad2:

My little brother (he's 15 years younger than me) used to complain that his mother (my step-mom) was always busy. Well, then she had an accident where her foot was crushed and 3 toes were amputated. He was happy and do you know why? Because she was home now. Isn't that sad? All her working and being away meant nothing to him because he just wanted time with her. I can still see him telling me that when he was just 7 years old. So you're right. Great post.:thumbsup2

Against my better judgment, flipping thru the channels late last night I watched the tea party. Boy, was it boring. This was obviously shot while Kate and the kids vacationed in May and they are showing it now. Things must not be going well with shooting new episodes. The difference between filming of Kate & kids and Jon & kids is that Jon seems more real. Kate's episodes are so staged. They did show an episode after they got the dogs and Kate said more than once how she didn't like the dogs and if the kids didn't help with them they were going back. It was the vet visit where one of the dogs swallowed a toy. The dogs also were peeing on the rug (where game night was held) and it was the tups that were getting the spray bottle and cleaning it up. Lot of stains on those rugs. Maybe that will be a new episode, new rugs and revamp for the play room.
In the dog episode, I also noticed the old kitchen. Not one thing wrong with it. What a waste of money--of course, not the Gosselin's) to redo that kitchen. The past owner of that house is probably sorry they sold to the Gosselin's. The laundry room's too small also according to Kate. Maybe they can add 4 more machines for the housekeeper to keep up with the wash. I don't believe for 1 second that Kate is cleaning, cooking--except for taping or doing laundry. Remember, she is a single parent---how many times does she repeat this??
The ratings have to be rock bottom low for the tea party--I can't believe I was dumb enough to watch.

Here is an excerpt from this link:

To put it in perspective, last week the show had 1.7 million viewers, as compared with 9.8 million viewers during the Season 5 premiere last May.

IMO, comparing ratings from now and the season 5 premiere is silly. 80% of those that tuned in to the season 5 premiere did so just to see what all the fuss was about, once they saw they moved on. A more accurate comparison would be now and season 3 or 4, sometime before Jon started stirring the paps interest.

I haven't watched last night's show yet, but I do plan to. I still find the children completely engaging and do not find the show boring at all.

Thanks :goodvibes

And you're right -- childhood is such a small part of their lives.

Funny thing is, so many parents are working so hard to save for college funds that they don't realize that their kids are falling behind in school now -- one of my DD's classmates failed Grade 3 while her parents worked overtime. They're shocked that she didn't do well because they're both professionals, but she told my DD that she never had anybody to help with her homework. IMO college funds can be taken care of later if you can make sure they pass elementary school. Those parents are just lucky they got their wake-up call now, instead of when she's a teen and getting completely sidetracked on her way to university ie. drugs, drinking, boys, etc.

Same as your brother -- lucky your step-mom got some time to spend with him when he was 7, when it really mattered.

I agree about the ratings. It is silly to compare them to any of the "announcement" shows.

But the 1.7 million is low. Lower than any of the recent seasons after the show became popular but before the tabloid journalism took over.

Mousey has a point about last night's show. We (on this board, that follow the Gosselins on either side of the argument) knew there would likely be several episodes from the beach trip, because of the way the tabloid pictures were coming out back in May. I believe the most recently filmed episode shown was the trip to the farm, which was shot before school started... or last week's game night. Thanks to the tabloids, we know that there have been scenes shot at home, the baseball game, the dentist, etc. It doesn't make sense in the sequence of things to go back and show the tea party when it happened in May.

Additionally, I read a recap of last night's show... Cara and Mady helped plant vegetables with Jon. I wonder whatever happened with those? That would have made for an interesting show, harvesting their own veggies and cooking something together.

I caught a few minutes of the game night episode from last week. Kate went from not being a parent who rushes a child to the doctor, to a parent that sends a child to the doctor with the babysitter (convenient how that worked out for filming, huh?), to a parent whose nursing instincts kicked in and felt sure Cara would be sent to the ER to be checked out. Pretty quick turnaround.

Just got a tweet from Entertainment Weekly that TLC is dumping Jon and it will be "Kate Plus 8" as of Nov 2...

I never thought about that Madge -- I guess game night didn't make for exciting footage. :lmao:

About the veggies< If I recall correctly, I believe that Jon said that the dogs got into them.

I think Jon, did a voice over and said the dogs ate the plants off the table. Which seems strange to me. Why would the dogs eat the mud.

Just saw a commercial on CNN that Jon is going to be on Larry King this Thursday night!

You get a trophy for this -- IMO this is probably as big as the divorce announcement.

You too :thumbsup2

Can't wait :lmao:

Shocking but not surprising --will be interesting to see if the gag order has been lifted or if he still can't talk about the show. I'm happy for the kids, honestly.

You've never met my puppy. :rotfl2: I lost more tomatoes (both green and red) right off the plants than ever before. Dog ate entire blueberry bushes and if I didn't put the weeds in the garbage, she ate those too. She has no problem eating dirt or anything that might be in it. Weird dog! :rotfl2:

And I just came here to see if you guys had seen the note about Jon. It's on both radaronline and people.com Interesting...
