If I'm really being honest with myself Doris, I'd have hated being on TV during my parent's divorce. I could barely conceal my anger toward both of them and I certainly wouldn't have wanted any of it documented for the world to see or myself to see later. .

It sounds like you had a lot building up to your parents' divorice. We're only had one divorce in our immediate family and it was nothing like your experience. I hope for the kids, that their experience was smoother than yours.
I do wish they had not shown the meltdown of Cara. Again, as the kids get older, I think this show will wind down. Do I think the meltdown had anything to do with the divorce? I don't know. I've seen this behavior before on the show, so I wonder if it's just, well, the behavior. Usually this is Mady type behavior.
As for the expenses and if Kate would go back to being a nurse. She would have a lot of catching up to do, if the state of PA is like NY, and I think they have dug out this life, and it would be hard for all o fthem to go backwards, instead of forward. Maybe Kate will land a show on her own..I"m sure shre must see the kids are getting older, and soon she'll have no choice. As for Jon..good luck there, I don't know what he will do with his life, but I don't think he is marketable right now.
I believe the old house is at market price right now (another diser could answer that...she has looked at the pricing before), and in this market, it just isn't selling. They may have to go below the market price, even if they take a loss, just to unload it. They have a mortgage on it, so other than not having to have mortgage payments, I don't know that a lot of money will play in even if they do sell it.

::yes::
Good post. Kate is dismissive, and can't seem to see the forest for looking at the trees. Can you imagine Cara's 8 and 9 year old friends watching this past epidode? Humiliating.

I don't think the twins have changed schools. It is maybe just further away now, and the bus comes to a community pick up point as opposed to in front of the house.

Kate has a very marketable skill. Nurses are in high demand and make excellent money. Her kids are school aged, and she could earn a living. Jon is able bodied, young and could work a public job. They have chosen the show and celebrity not to provide, but to live lavishly. I don't know if there is any going back. They are a punch line to the joke. The kids don't need to worry about college funds. The state set up the TAP accounts at their first birthday and can you imagine the loans, grants, and scholarships for people with eight kids in college at once? Kate has said she won't be handing over money for cars, they will need to get a job when they are 16. I thought that was the point of the show? I think she uses the show, and fans and people who work for her in place of family and friends. She is surrounded by people and all by herself.

Exactly!!! ::yes::

Both Kate and Jon have said in the past that Cara keeps everything bottled inside and doesn't express her feelings until she just lets it all out over something trivial. I don't think Kate was ignoring Cara, she just knows how she is.

I realize that and I've seen another episode where she acted out. However, this past one seemed much more dramatic to me. I don't know if Kate ignored her or not. I did get the feeling she was dismissive about her though because her explanation was that this is just how Cara is. You know, even if it's true and Cara's outburst isn't related to the added stress of the divorce, why film it and broadcast it for the world to see? I'd feel terrible if my daughter was on TV acting that way, it would be embarrassing for her. It's similar to when you're out in public at a store and one of your kids has a meltdown. Would you want a camera at Target filming your child having a temper tantrum? I wouldn't, especially during a divorce.

I wasn't angry until my parents told me they were divorcing. There wasn't anything building up to it, it was the actual divorce that made me so angry and sad. Having said that, I realize kids are different and I'm not saying that the Gosselin kids will react the same way I did. What I am saying is that they deserve the time and privacy to deal with it without having the added stress of filming. Or, having to deal with their behavior on film during their parent's divorce, for them to see at a later date. It's just becoming glaringly obvious to me that they need time away from the cameras. I don't think J&K fully realize what the ramifications are of this messy divorce and how it might affect their kids. Why take the chance of making it more difficult for your children?

Unfortunately for me Doris, I am looking for those little meltdowns and then wondering if it's because of the divorce. I can't help but project my experience in this way and for that reason the show makes me uncomfortable. Watching Cara made me sad. I can't help it, it just did.

So the kids can work to pay for her car, but they can't use any of the funds to buy their own. :scared1: Don't get me wrong -- I think it's great for teens to have jobs -- but I think they've already earned more than enough to pay for a car each.

ITA! All kids can have meltdowns -- mine has too. I've always tried to think of my DD's dignity and get her to a private place until she can get under control. IMO it's nobody's business what is bothering her, but if people don't know what a kid is upset about they're just going to think she's a brat. Maybe if she really was a brat, I wouldn't care so much that it was public, but she's not.

I still cringe when my mother repeats some stories of things that happened when we were little (why does she always do that?). I can't imagine having it on video on the internet for everybody to see for the rest of my life. :scared:

Well, you have your past experience, and if that's how you feel, that's how you feel.
I'm still seeing their behavior as it's been in the past. That's what makes this interesting, that we all see things differently. I can imagine for you the divorce was even harder, since you didn't see it happen. For these kids, the arguing before hand (if what those who have said happened actually did), the divorce may be a relief.
The choice for this show to have been aired was made by the parents, and since they know them best, it is what it is. I have enjoyed the show. That said, I think the kids have gotten old enough, that it's time to move on. The older girls meltdowns aren't just cute acting out..and it may come back to embarass them in the future. I haven't thought any of the shows with the kids pre and teen ages are a good idea, divorce, sweet family, or not. They are all about making money (if they need the money or not), and I'd rather see them all as specials now that the kids are older. I've never understood the Duggars, since supposedly it's not even about money, showing their lives like they do..especially with their background..
So, I have to say, it wouldn't disappoint mem, if K & J didn't continue after this season. Which is why I hope that she is persuing a new career. I hope she is doing that because she also realizes the gilrs are getting older and the affect showing their meltdowns could have on them.
I see our ship in the harbor from our window..and it's time to get on her..OK everyone, please keep the chatter down, since I'll be paying by the minute next time I get on LOL!

Very often personal experience does taint how people interpret things. Like you said, that's why there are so many differing opinions on this thread.:)

But I think even you might agree that the Gosselin kids have been through a lot this past year. Now, during one of the probably hardest times of their little lives, they have to deal with being filmed. It's still time and work to get the footage the crew needs. (Remember Michelle Duggar saying that it takes like a lot of time to film for just one episode)

Now to play devil's advocate here, maybe the Gosselin kids behavior (ie Cara & Mady's outbursts) is related to the filming and always has been. Technically we don't know. However, I'd still say that they need time to deal. Sure divorce affects kids in different ways. My sister has major (borderline needing therapy) issues with trust and still thinks her husband might leave her someday. That's sad. What about the Gosselin kids? Well let's see. Their dad is a casanova right now and multiple women are coming forward claiming sexual relationships. He's living in NY away from his kids hometown, heck he's not even in the same state. Kate is spending time away to do interviews and talk shows. Which translates into the nanny spending quite a bit of time with the kids. I'm guessing of course but I wouldn't be surprised. I'm not saying that J&K need to smother them by spending every waking moment with them. But this is a very difficult transition for regular kids, let alone kids on TV who are recognized in public. Kids who's parents have spent months on tabloid covers.

On a happier note, have a great time on your cruise Doris!:goodvibes

Is she hiding from the TLC cameras, the paparazzi cameras, or both?

It's funny you said that because I was thinking it looked like the TLC crew. :confused3 How do you tell the difference?

Actually, it must the paps taking the picture of the TLC crew with the Gosselins, right?

I didn't know there was a real Christopher Robin! Interesting perspective for all of us, not just people who sell their kids' stories.

Great article :thumbsup2

But I was hoping they would say definitively whether the courts think that it is the child or the parent who owns the story. Morally, I think the parents only have the right to speak or write about the public lives of their kids ie. what everybody else would know anyway. The private things should be the property of the child -- they should at least get a good portion of the proceeds.

Maybe she just didn't want to be seen with the glasses from the eye dr. on. My kids don't like the glasses. Did you notice the lady in the office building taking pictures of Kate and the paps?
