but if they stopped the show, at some point they'd fade off the radar. so much of what shows up the in the tabloids is when the family is out filming for the show. if you take that out of the equation, then all that's left is the daily shot of the helmet-free, flip flop wearing Gosselin children outside unsafely riding their bikes or scooters. that would get old fast, I think.

if Jon continues to act like a dork, then the paps can follow him.

True that NOW we see pics of what is being filmed for the show. But why is that? Because Jon acted foolishly, their marriage was in shambles and now they're getting divorced which had the paps drooling and fighting to get the shots. I think that's why we're seeing even the mundane, everday pics too...Kate at Starbucks, Jon at the UPS store, taking the kids to the pediatrician, strolling through an airport. Where were all these pics from the last year and half? Point is that J&K weren't THAT interesting back then so nobody payed close attention to the family and where/when they were filming.

I do think they both (whether they admit it or not) like the media attention. Probably for very different reasons though. Kate IMO likes it because it keeps interest up for the show. Jon IMO likes it because he's like a teenager right now and wants to be 'cool' Ha, I finally got to use that smilie! Anyhow, I do agree though that if Jon continues on his course of idiocy, he will continue to be in the limelight which will make the paps very happy.

There is no way I would let him have anyone stay overnight, I would have it put into the divorce that NO overnight visitors were allowed on either side in that home, at least for now. That is just crazy. Those kids have enough adjustment issues going on, they don't need Daddy bringing home the flavor of the week too!

I do not think you can put that in the Divorce in PA unless both agree. They are going to split everything 50-50 no matter what they do good or bad. Which was why I was saying it might be better if they can reconcile

that's my point. the question is what happens if they stop the show? IMO, here's what could happen ... the show goes off the air, and Kate & the children begin living a life of junior kindergarten, school, sports, playdates, and other activities 5 and 9 year olds would do. The paparazzi would be around at the onset of the period of normal, no doubt. But if Kate lives the life of many other stay at home moms, at some point (eventually) they go back to a life with much fewer paparazzi. I saw fewer, because as long as Jon is living his current lifestyle, there will be some interest in him. Maybe. Maybe not, if Kate is moving forward, taking care of the children. Because really, what's he got to offer the tabloids without Kate and the kids? Not much.

And I think you're right, they both like the attention. which is why the interviews continue, the show goes on, etc. Because the reality is, they could stop the show. Outside of their contract with TLC, they could stop. They want out, the show goes away. I know it isn't quite as simple as that, but .. They're not actors on an episodic TV series film whose character needs to be replaced if they quit. The reason they don't quit is because they don't want to, IMO.

It was clear in the couch interviews something happened last year shortly after the vowel renewal. Many people think even before, it was he, not Leah (was it her?) who slept in the basement. I do believe the end was a while ago and it showed, yet they played on until Jon was seen with Deanna. They still tried to cover it up and play nice for the show until they couldn't anymore (Jon again course!) If Jon had never been caught, would they still be acting with the audience none the wiser? Probably.

I found the youtube of the July 4 that Nana Joan was on, and I think you're right.. I wonder if that's who stayed with the kids while Kate was gone and Jon was out car shopping?

I agree, it was very obvious during season 4 that things were not good between J&K. I don't think the facade would've lasted too much longer though...IMO Jon clearly wanted out and was ready to start his new life. That was probably quite hard for him to 'hide' during the show and I'm sure he felt relief that it was finally out in the open. Remember his excitement about starting the new chapter of his life? Anyhow, I do think they would have tried to gloss over their problems for even longer had the paps not caught onto Jon and his excursions at the bars with young women.

Madge, wasn't it you who suggested that Jon was sleeping in the basement at the old house? I remember wondering if that were true because it seemed really bizarre to have one of the little kids down there alone at night.

one of the things that bother me the most about the whole J8 situation is the constant reminder that Jon and Kate plus 8 is the realest reality show out there, yet it isn't really reality at all. (And I only continue to say that about the concept of the show because as recent as Monday, that's what Kate says about it.) I truly believe that Jon and Kate would have ridden this thing out for as long as they could have, lying to the millions of fans (not to mention their children) who have come to love and support (literally, in some cases) the family. A wholesome family, based on lies.

that's what the rumor has always been. that Jon was in the basement, and not one of the girls... that carried over to the new house, when the speculation was that Jon was living over the garage.

If that's what was going on (not knowing one way or the other that it did), how did they put it past the children? I can't get that to make sense in my head at all.

I could be. It could also be they were not sure how far to take the break-up. Marriages can have bad years & survive. You think it might get better, you have children you love & do not want to devastate. It takes time for a marriage to fall apart. Some marriages go on for years in worse shape then these two.

it's one thing to put on a show (after a fight) for relatives or stay together not to upset the children. It's another thing altogether, IMO, to fake it and continue to earn thousands upon thousands of dollars based on the lie.

There was an episode showing someone going down to the basement to get/wake up Alexis once. I wasn't watching this show when the episode first aired so I don't know about rumors or off scene stuff (except for what's been posted lately) but I thought it was believable that she was sleeping down there. They said Alexis woke up early and would wake up the other kids.

I can't believe that the paps went to her mom's nursing home and got her mom released to them, so they could interview her. She has alziemers I believe. I hope Brooke wins her case against them.

I think they are past that being able to happen. While on paper, it looks like they make a lot of money (tax wise, they prob get to keep about 50% of it), if in fact they are funding the kids accounts, paying for his house, the kids house and the old house, and eventually her house, those mortgage payments will eat up the money pretty quick. Throw in property taxes, health care, three different support systems, I think they have trapped themselves into this life. Bigger celebrities than they have gone under.
I do agree with the person who said they both like the media, and I agree (IMO) it's for two different reasons.

I thought the deal was (according to something published the other day?) Jon couldn't be with the kids if it was Kate's turn. Kate is at home and Jon is taking Leah to the doctor. It would be helpful if they provided us a list to make it easier to understand their arrangement.

When did we learn that Jon cheated on Kate? We still dont know when the relationship ended or who ended it. How do you know that she did not end it last Oct and now he is dating. Don't get me wrong, he should not be doing it in public but we still don't know that he is cheating.

ITA! Just now realizing that maybe there's a big difference in the way some people view separation. Here, once you're separated you're no longer considered legally married -- not in the eyes of the tax man, the courts (in case of probating wills), the passport office, or credit card companies (ie. they can't go after your money if your soon-to-be-ex doesn't pay their bills) -- unless the separation lasts less than 3 months. Once you're reunited, I think you have to be living together for 6 weeks to undo all of that. As far as most churches go, you can get an anullment before the divorce papers are even filed.

Now, I thought most of the interview Regis was asking questions which had been fed to him ie. so that she could give him the info that she and TLC were trying to put out. And after reading the People article, I'm even wondering if Kate had thought that Jon would come crawling back and begging to resume the TV life, minus the earrings, etc. which are totally not saleable.

Maybe Regis was out of line, or maybe Regis was onto something -- he is likely a lot more media savvy than most of us. Maybe he thought that they would reunite in a huge ratings grab for the show. Had Jon not started dating, it would have worked.

Didn't come to a shock to me. As many people have said over this thread, the opinion is, when the marriage is failing, many people either have a vow renewel, or a baby.
