Jolly Holiday Bakery Cafe

Love the name for the new bakery. Course I am a huge Mary fan.
As for the Carnation Cafe...they need the space. In the short time it took us to eat there(maybe 45 minutes) we saw people drop things 3 different times because of the cramped quarters.

Read through this post, I myself am a huge Mary fan, and Julie Andrews fan, so very excited about the name myself, wonder if it is going to have a Mary theme with the food, bakery items, and decor, that would be so cool.:goodvibes

the picture is the same place where the character breakfast is, is this where they are putting the bakery ......I am confused

No, the Plaza Inn, where Minnie and Friends is held is on the right, the Plaza Garden's, is where the season pass place was. It's on the left.
It used to be a counter service restaraunt, until the 90's hit..... a good one too!
They look similar.
Wait is it Plaza Garden? Or Plaza Pavilion?

I believe that the Plaza Pavilion (soon to be Jolly Holiday hooray!) shares a kitchen with Tahitian Terrace. Hopefully once they're using the kitchen they will be more inclined to bring back the TT.

I would be SO HAPPY if that happened! Or at least *some* fabulously themed table service restaurant in its place.

Minuet888, the Minnie Breakfast is at the Plaza Inn; the Plaza Pavilion is the place across from it where the AP processing center has been. It used to be a restaurant, until the late 90s IIRC.

Carnation Cafe used to have indoor seating, many years ago - and the whole indoor portion of the seating was cut off during that massive makeover of DLR in the late '90s (which ultimately produced DCA, the GCH, DTD, and the loss of a large chunk of the Disneyland Hotel's property, shops and restaurants). There was indoor seating and outdoor seating, and a much more extensive menu, with burgers, more sandwiches, more entrees (like a pasta dish and some other stuff), milkshakes and different types of sundaes, etc.

Thank you Sherry for making me feel like I had NOT lost my mind. I kept thinking that the DH area was smaller and that the Carnation Cafe used to be bigger. LOL. There was a gap between when I was down there all the time until I started my annual pilgrimages again. I just thought I was wrong. LOL.

I remember the bigger CC from when I was a kid. We ate there 2x on a 3 day visit to DL, my sisters and I LOVED the Mickey Pot Pies! Sooooo glad it's expanding. It's a not to miss restaurant for us every time we go!

You are certainly not wrong and have not lost your mind! (Though I know that feeling of thinking I remember something a certain way, and then needing someone else to actually confirm that I'm not going crazy because I'm not 100% sure!:rotfl2:)

Before the major overhaul of DLR in the late '90s - and that really was a huge undertaking, as it changed the whole face of the Resort and made it much bigger - the Disneyland Hotel was much larger! There was a whole section of the DLH that was hacked off in the transformation. Goofy's Kitchen used to be in another location in the DLH. There were several other restaurants there too (like my favorite, the long lost Monorail Cafe:sad2:). There were a couple of dance club/bar/lounge-type places like Sgt. Preston's Yukon Saloon, which turned into Neon Cactus, and also the Pavilion Lounge, I think it was called. There were more shops as well. There was the marina with the pedal boats. During the Christmas season, they would put up Candy Cane Lane on the grounds, and set up a special tent for Santa, along with holiday souvenir stands.

DLH was a real "resort" all on its own. But they had to hack off that chunk of it to make way for parking and DTD, etc.

And, yes, Carnation Cafe had that nice menu with all those extra choices on it, and lots of places to sit indoors.

I think that with all the changes coming to DLR, they need to do whatever they can to expand their dining options for people, and create extra seating at the existing restaurants if at all possible. Carnation Cafe is a place that badly needs that extra seating back, and it needs to have the option of staying open for dinner more often, which I think it will be able to do when the indoor seating returns. They do have occasional dinner hours at CC - I've eaten there during that time - but not often enough for the liking of most of the guests.

I also think that the idea of doing something with any empty or wasted spaces around DLR and turning them into something useful in conjunction with this upcoming DCA expansion would be great. For example, what are they doing with the space that used to be Yamabuki at PPH? Anything? Did something move into its spot that I am forgetting? If not, why is that space not housing a new restaurant? The PPH seems to be on an upswing these days, and more people want to stay there than ever before - it would not be a bad time to throw a new restaurant into that Yamabuki location!

Looks like they've already started construction today :)

Thanks for posting; I hadn't seen the blog entry! Al Lutz has been reporting this for some time but I'm so happy to see the dates. I was afraid that they'd actually close the bakery BEFORE they had its replacement ready. :scared1:

So I'm so happy to know the Blue Ribbon Bakery will be around through the end of the year. I need my gingerbread! :rotfl:

Al Lutz was actually slow in finding about about the Carnation Cafe expansion and the Blue Ribbon Bakery closing! We knew about it here first!:rotfl2: Our wonderful DIS'er, deejdigsdis, found out about the CC expansion and the Blue Ribbon Bakery closure (and that there was going to be a new bakery moving in down the street) on her trip to DLR a few months ago, when she spoke to Oscar the Chef while dining at CC. Oscar may be retiring or cutting back his hours when all these changes happen. She wrote about it in her TR.

Al needs to catch up!! He is slipping!:rotfl2::rotfl2:

Oh right...I just figure if it's an unsubstantiated rumor that eventually causes minor controversy, it probably came from Al.

Way to go, deejdigsdis!

:rotfl2:And controversy he does cause, doesn't he? I remember the chaos that broke out on the Halloween thread last year just at Al's mere mention of how Disneyland might handle getting rid of the crowds who were not attending Mickey's Halloween Party (he suggested they would be allowed to hang around Main Street to watch the party-exclusive fireworks). Even though things did not end up going exactly as he reported they might go, just the rumor if what could happen caused a bunch of our DIS'ers to fire off angry letters to DLR before the party ever happened.

Al will cause some controversy, all right!

Whoah! I was curious to find more info (it sounds fantastic to me) and I just read this Jolly Holiday thread on micechat.

It was highly comical. A major debate on theming broke out over the past months and one side was all "the British are coming, the British are coming" and very heated about how un-American it was and the other side was all "I like tea and crumpets" defending the theming as the hub, Mary is already there, time periods, etc. There were some voices of reason as well ;)

10 pages of hilarity I tell you...

So are we suppose to assume that this is going to be a Mary Poppins themed place or is that just the name they picked?? Just curious what everyone else thought.:goodvibes

Oooohhh...looks like I was suffering from burning ears -- or is it itching ears? Can't really remember the saying, I guess! :rotfl: I saw this thread title and wondered if it would shed some light on the Carnation Cafe/Blue Ribbon Bakery info I received from Chef Oscar. I really like this idea! It's such a pretty area. How long was it an AP Processing Center? It seemed like a waste to use such a pretty area for that. I think Jolly Holiday is a great name! Can't wait to see it next year.

This is the funniest thing I've read all day. Thanks for the laugh and yes, that thread is priceless. :goodvibes

I'll have to read that Jolly Holiday theme thread. I love a good debate (translation: argument) that breaks out over crazy stuff (as long as the argument doesn't break out on the DIS, that is!;)).

I go out of my way to follow the Sprinkles Cupcake page on Facebook simply because everyone argues over the daily free cupcake code words, and the fact that they are supposed to be 'whispered' in person at the Sprinkles locations, not typed on the Facebook page. People purposely type the code words on Facebook just to irritate the people who get angry about it (or...they actually think free cupcakes will fall from the sky if they type in "cinnamon" on Facebook), and mayhem ensues. I get great joy out of the heated cupcake-driven battles!

Clearly, I am easily amused.

That thread is a veritable gold mine, Sherry. People are FREAKING OUT over the theming and it's awesome. I don't see how some of these people can enjoy Disneyland at all, as uptight as they appear to be.

:rotfl2:Hee hee. I read it. Well, I skimmed all the pages. That's wild. Maybe I need to turn in my 'true Disney fan lifetime membership' for saying this, but I'm not bothered by the Mary Poppins theme. My thoughts are:

1. I am happy with the name. I love the name Jolly Holiday Bakery. That's a great name (unlike "Cars Land," which is a bad name).

2. I am happy that there will still be a bakery on Main Street - hopefully with more space/area, and hopefully they will still sell the popular items (like the big cinnamon rolls and the peppermint mochas at Christmas time), as well as add in some new things.

3. I am delighted that Carnation Cafe gets more space and seating, and excited by the hope that the menu will once again expand.

4. I am happy that Gibson Girl and Candy Palace are expanding. I hope the Penny Arcade somehow remains intact. We need Esmeralda to stay put.

5. I think that some things are a perfect fit at DLR, and some things do not fit certain themes quite as perfectly, but...it doesn't really bother me in the big picture. It's all fantasy. It's all magic. DLR gives us a world where all kinds of creatures and lands and themes and time periods can co-exist or blend together. I suspend disbelief and most of my logic and reason when I enter those gates. All I want is to be transported and entertained.

Really, it's all good to me, as long as great stuff is being added and not removed! Now...if only I could make cupcakes magically fall from the sky by just whispering "vanilla," my life would be complete.:rotfl2:
