Anybody else out there watch Joan of Arcadia?

I find this show very touching... not sappy tho. The teenagers portrayed seem very real to me. They are mopey, happy, bright, outright stupid, hormone driven, self involved, anxious, questioning, all the things a teenager really is.... and they are not all "pretty people"
There is a wide variety of characters on the show. The characters do not seem to be stereotypes or pigeon holed.

I like how God interacts with Joan. I like how he shows up as different people..... and how he Doesn't always show up at just the right time.

The show is not preachy. It does not try to offer concrete answers to the questions of life posed by/to the characters. Some ot the situations/questions presented are often complicated. I find that each show stirs up emotions.
I like because I often find conversation starters for my teens in the show. Many discussions have been elicited by a JofA episode.

I sure hope this stays around for a long time.

I think it's one of the best shows on TV, I look forward to it each week.

I also enjoy the show alot!! It's different from other shows and that is what makes it refreshing.

I do have a question? I missed last Friday and forgot to tape it, what happened to Joan's friend Judith?

Thanks!!

Have a magical Disney Day!!::MickeyMo :sunny: ::MickeyMo

I love this show! DH watched last night's episode, then I replayed last week's show and now he is hooked also!

Chrismiss56... I have it taped. Do you want me to mail you the tape? Let me know by PM.

Karen

I also missed what happened to Judith...and I thought I watched last week. Maybe they showed a rerun in my area? Maybe I'm losing my mind? I kept thinking they would do a flashback and reveal the "secret" of what happened.
So...what did happen?
I programmed the VCR for next week, even though I expect to be home. Not missing out again!

My kids are both 8 and seriously, Joan of Arcadia is their favorite show on TV. My son in particular will not miss it. He skipped out on going to a movie last night because he wanted to watch Joan. They both cheer when there is a preview for a new episode.

I really like it as well for all the reasons everyone else has mentioned.

And can someone fill me in on Judith too? I missed last week's and my son couldn't really explain what happened to her and I am really wondering what happened.

I love the show too.

Judith...........spoiler for those who didn't see it.

Judith was stabbed to death during a drug deal gone bad. After her parents left her alone to go to another conference she helped Joan get ready for a special date with Adam. When Joan and Adam left she met up with kids from her old school. One of the guys wanted drugs so the group went to meet a dealer. We didn't see the actual stabbing but later at the hospital Judith told Joan's father that the guy tried to rip them off and she started yelling at him and getting in his face so he stabbed her (11 times according to the Drs). After her surgery Joan was in the room with her and she died.

After this my Tivo stopped recording. I don't know why and I'm still mad. I heard the rest of the show was the teens and everyone dealing with Judith's death. Everything indicates that is was really sad and really well acted so we'll have to look for reruns.

Thank you for the update on Joan of Arcadia, we were on the Wonder 11/12!

I LOVE this show too! I have TIVO set to record it every week! Also, at the scene with Judith, she was wearing Joan's sweater with Joan's name embroidered inside it (first and last name), so the cops at the scene thought it was Joan. Adam left Joan alone to deal with Judith's stabbing/death because of what happened to his mom, that was pretty emotional when he came back.

Have we gotten the full story on what happened to her brother yet?

Spoilers appreciated.

TIA :)

I seem to have missed the first half but caught the last. I saw the part where Judith died and Joan was very angry at God (I thought it was God, but perhaps he was really the doctor).

Can I ask a sort of odd question? Does it sound to anyone else that Adam calls Joan, "Jane" or "Jen"? I swear sometimes I forget her name momentarily and try to remember if there is someone named Jane, lol. Maybe it's just my tv?

Another aside, everytime I see Joan's paralyzed brother, my heart catches because he looks sooooooo much like his deceased father (John Ritter) and makes me remember his too-sudden death.

Yes, God was the doctor. Yes, Adam calls her Jane. When Adam got mad at her he was calling her Joan and she begged him to call her Jane again. I missed why he calls her Jane in the first place. And I agree about her brother! Especially the episode he was doing the "stand-up" comedy! Perfect timing, just like his dad!

I can't remember why he was calling her Jane, if he just didn't know her name when they first met, or if he did it on purpose, but it became kind of a "thing" for them as a couple, like a pet name.

Anyone remember why he calls her "Jane"

And why is the Mom so upset with the new police chief (Annie Potts - I really like the character). Is she insecure on a personal level or the fact that Will opened up to her about their personal family problems.

Just wondering.

This is one of my favorite shows as well. I like how Adam calls her Jane, sort of a pet name. The episode with Judith was incredibly sad and touching. I get so angry with the family that is suing the Girardi's after the oldest son's accident.

A favorite at our house also. My dd, 11, just loves this show. In fact, we are thinking of auditioning for a show and are having second thoughts about it because there are rehearsals on Friday nights!! Hate it when I have to miss Joan!!

Adam called her Jane right from the beginning. He could never get her name right, even when Joan corrected him. Eventually she just stopped correcting him.

So...bumping up this zombie thread because I've been watching my DVD sets of Joan of Arcadia....it was a great show 15 years ago and still a great show now.

It would be nice to see a reboot of the show with Joan and Adam married with kids. :) and Joan still talking to God.
