He is definitely my most respected living president. You don't see any of the rest of them going out to build Habits for Humanity or anything nearly equivalent.

Although I admire Jimmy Carter as a really decent person, the excitment centers around the President...former President of the United States of America. No matter what I think of the person, the office still commands respect and awe. Sandie B

I don't think the OP posted to have a discussion on the political merits of a particular President. None are without fault including the present one.

Surely in the long history of the US there were worse, but then I am not learned in the specifics of past presidents that lived before I was born as some obviously are.

.. who rented all those points out to one person. That may lead to our first "Renting" thread of the new year.

I'm with sandieb; I'd be excited about any U.S. President, past or present, who stayed at a DVC resort while I was there. Heck, I'd even be excited about a Vice President! ;)

I have an aunt who went to a party at which she met Michael Douglas (who, BTW, once played the President opposite Annette Bening in some movie whose title now escapes me), and I was excited (even though vicariously through her!)

Sure, it borders on the Kevin Bacon game, and may sound pathetic. But I think it's that whole connectivity. You may like (or not like) my dh if you ever met him -- who knows -- and you may like (or not like) Jimmy Carter, for whatever reason. But if I say, "Hey, I was at the pool at OKW with (dh's name)!" you would think, "Who the heck is that?" and be left with no clue -- tall, short, blond, bald, or otherwise. But if I say, "I was at the OKW pool with Jimmy Carter!" you know who I'm talking about -- it's a connection, and gives you an immediate image -- good, bad, or otherwise in your opinion, but a connection nonetheless.

Lastly, I must add -- I try to never judge a person solely by what I see via media. The media can paint smart, good people as total failures, and yet let complete boobs somehow rise to the top.... (And I'm not being specific here or referring to anyone in particular -- just in general).

Even I would be excited to see that peanut eating lib!!!

Hey, do we even have a vice president?!? When is the last time any of us saw some footage of him? ;)

Hubby has a pic of himself with Carter from not that long ago. They were both at some Atlanta Braves induction ceromony. I think he even got him to sign a baseball. In the pic there is a secet service agent looking very crossly at the picture taker, my FIL. LOL Hubby is a huge Republican, but was still very excited.

I think Carter is wonderful. Course, I am a liberal. (You shoudl hear the political arguments in our house! :eek) Unfortunately, his presidency wasn't good, but I think he has well made up for it since. All timing and circumstance.

I think my Dad has met him a coupel times, too. He has worked on several Habitat houses.

I love the Kevin Bacon theroy! LOL I'm related to Captain John Smith of Pocohontas fame, Faye Dunaway and I think a couple other late Hollywood stars. I have a relative who is obsessed with family trees. Very interersting stuff. She has traveled to even look up things!

OK, I'm way off topic here. Sorry!

My post was to inform you all that Jimmy Carter stayed at "our" home away from home. It was exciting to meet and speak with him at the pool. There are not many living presidents and to see and to exchange smal ltalk was a great experience for me and the kids. I saw Mr. Carter once in our town as he was there for a speech of some sort. That is about all I can remember about his Presidency. I heard more of him afterwards than during it seems.
We love OKW and if it is enjoyed by former US Presidents, all the better.
I heard he chose OKW due to room size - that one is for you Rich!!!;)

We do have a VP and he was home here in Wyoming for the Holidays.

The Carter Visit might explains what some of the big dogs of DVC were doing on about 12/14 at OKW with some suits.

I'm impressed! Plains GA is on my list of places to go in my lifetime, and the Carter Foundation in Atlanta is an informative, interesting place to visit.

Thank you for telling us about your encounter.

Bobbi:D

Who knows, maybe if he enjoyed the trip he'll join DVC.? :sunny:

Think he went over to see himself at the Hall of Presidents? :hyper:

Actually, I do not consider myself a trouble maker. I was just personalizing a thought that receives alot of attention here on these boards. Just a fact, the rooms are bigger. My way to try to be funny. Sorry if it offended anyone.
This post was buried for a week, funny that Dee brought it back to the top for attention.
My original post wasn't meant to be political but informative.

If anyone has a right to be offended, in my opinion, it would be you. You posted an interesting fact and some turned it into a political discussion of the merits of the past presidents.

I found it very interesting and would have been thrilled to be staying somewhere with a former President whether I supported his policy while he was in office or not.

As to the room size at OKW, anyone that does not accept the fact that the units are larger is in room size denial. I did not see your comment as anything but a cute "tongue in cheek" comment.

Some need to lighten up a little. Now if that comment offends anyone, then I guess the shoe fits.

Your post above speaks volumes. I would guess to say IMO that 99% of the posters took Niagara2 post about OKW 1BR size and Richyams as it was intended.......as a joke.::yes::

I also would have been thrilled to see Jimmy Carter at OKW.
