Does anyone have a good "recipe" for jewellery cleaner that they would like to share?

Dish soap, hot water and ammonia. Soak, brush. You can also boil water to steam it after it's clean/dry - I use a small pot of boiling water, hang my ring on a chopstick in the steam after I clean it.

Don't use toothpaste - too abrasive. Don't use bleach - dissolves your gold.

I just drop my rings into a small cup of ammonia and let them sit overnight then in the am I brush them with a soft toothbrush to remove any gunk still stuck around the prongs then rinse --I've never had a problem and I've been doing it for years!

BIL is a jeweler and he uses amonia, dishwashing liquid, (just a drop) and warm water. He also steams them dry, if you have one of those sharks (for cleaning) that shoots steam, that's what I use.

I just use my household cleaner "Greased Lightening". Spray a little in a plastic cup, soak my rings for a few minutes and use a toothbrush to scrub around the prongs. Makes them sparkle. :thumbsup2

Forced steamed air is the best to clean precious gems like diamonds, sapphires, emeralds, rubies.

I worked for a diamond merchant about 19 years ago who sold a very 'expensive' jewelry cleaner that we would have to make up.

It was Liquid All and water in a jar with a small brush. It was such a scam but it actually did work.

Thanks all, I knew the DIS folks would have the answer I was looking for. :)
