jehovah witness

I respect anyone's faith no matter what religion they are. Just don't make it sound like I am depriving my kid, that your kid is more loved and safer than mine.

Unless they're selling Thin Mints and Samoas. :)
:rotfl2: :rotfl2: Can't say no to the Thin Mints.

And don't you mean more safer. :lmao:

Actually most atheists that I know didn't raise their kids to be atheist, they educated them and left it open for the kid to learn and decide what religion or no religion they wanted in their life. Yes they knew about their parent's non beliefs, but they were also taught to find out as much as you can about all religions and make a decision for yourself. I know hardly any christians who have let their kids do this. Not to say that none do, but just that it is not normally the way it is, which is sad.
:thumbsup2 I agree 100%. DH and I are atheists. However, DS8 says he believes in God. He's says he's not sure if Jesus is the son of God, or just a very good man who spread the word of God. But he has an active interest in religion that we won't stop. He's active in a Christian sports program, where not only do they practice, they learn scriptures. And he attends VBS and other church activities. (He goes with my BestFriend and her family.)

...how many JW in the world are there? Do you get a membership number? What if you are member 144,001?

Make sure you drink the Kool-Aid first!;)

All in all. Jehovahs witnessess do what they do because the bible tells them to do or not do something. So no matter what you do or say, they or we, are not gonna do what you say instead. Gods word over mans.

Whose interpretation, Choco? What you REALLY mean, is it is what the Watchtower has told you the Bible (the one that THEY translated) says.

Agree?

Yep... that must be it

I don't spend my life worrying about WHO created me... I worry about making a good life for myself and my child (who's life I put before anyone else's beliefs) I worry about being a good person and making my mark on the physical world that I can see

This is OT, but I am curious. Since you are atheist, do you celebrate Christmas? If not, what do your kids do at school when all the Christmas stuff is being done?

Pardon my ignorance, but I wasn't sure if atheist celebrate Christmas to just go with the flow or what. I guess my brother is atheist - says he doesn't believe in god. He doesn't have any kids, but lives with his girlfriend and she does put up Christmas decorations. I've never talked about religion with her - hardly know her, so I don't know her religious beliefs.

Your posts are ridiculous and insulting. Now anyone who isn't a JW doesn't believe in or follow God? Get real, lady!

Umm - I think that post was directed to someone who said they are atheist - therefore don't believe in god. Not directed to those who do believe in god, regardless of religion.

Girl Scouts never come to my door.:sad2:
I disagree about the thin mints. No matter what religion you are... you must agree that Samoas are the shiznit!!!:lmao:
I think JWs would agree:thumbsup2

:lmao:

Well, we celebrate Christmas, but it's never been religious for us. Just a time of the year to be with family. The message of Christmas is peace and goodwill. And these are not Christian-only values. (Actually, history shows Christians don't have a very good track record of spreading peace and goodwill.) Anyways, Christmas today is really a blend of pagan beliefs with a little Christianity thrown in.

We also celebrate Halloween! :thumbsup2

Do you dress up as a JW?

:rotfl2:

Don't forget the Thin Mints! :thumbsup2

You know, last year while my kids were out trick or treating, we actually found pamphlets in their bags. I didnt see who put them in there. We stood curbside while the kdis went to the door. I couldnt believe it when we got home. I just tossed them. Just irritating. One was actually talking to kids about going to hell and all that.:sad2:

Okay, okay... I think we have to debate what is really important here...

thin mints/samoas:thumbsup2

:rotfl2:

They wreaked the thin mints when they made them a mint flavored cookie instead of having an actual layer of mint in them.

Thin Mints are for me :snooty:

Samoas are for DH - I just don't like em :scared:

That stinks that kids have to be subjected to that LovinPooh. They are just kids and don't need to be scared like that.:sad2:

Maybe next time they should dress up as Satan :rotfl2:

My DD got a whole packet of information regarding retirement options, financial planning etc., as well as all sorts of little trinkets with the name of a financial planning institution on them. :rotfl:

Also, I'm quite surprised that no one has mentioned Scientology yet. That, I guess, is technically a religion.

Hee-hee, I was totally thinking that I'd still rather have JWs come to my door than Scientologists. :rotfl:

When the last JW's came to the door (about 10 years ago), DH answered the door without any clothing on. They haven't been back since. In fact, I've seen them coming down our street, cross over to the other side when going by our house and then cross back over.

All in all. Jehovahs witnessess do what they do because the bible tells them to do or not do something. So no matter what you do or say, they or we, are not gonna do what you say instead. Gods word over mans. Believe me Our kids are not depriving for anything. They are more loved and more safer than anyone elses kids. They are happy. Just ask them, they can explain to you how they feel, they are also smart. About the blood transfusions. There are many hospitals now that are into bloodless everything and they are not owned by Jehovahs witnesses. They see that it is healther to do things the clean way. We have many articles and vidios about Drs explaining how much healther it is. Usually those that say their relative needed blood cause they were so bad off, so they gave it to them. They died in the long run. So it doesnt save lives. If your a nerse, read up on that, you will be surprised what you find. But even if the Drs didnt say that. We believe the bible when God tells us not to do something. We listen. Its our lives at stake.

Hmmm...I have a hard time believing that your children are loved more than my kids. I doubt they're any safer, too.

I have nothing against JWs. I know two very sweet little girls who practice that religion. I don't think they'd dream of telling me that their parents love them more than I love my kids.

Well a JW church is two doors down and all my neighbors have no soliciting signs, our house came with one, LOL! The problem is the nighbor hood JW don;t think they are soliciting!

So the bible says Christ died that all my be saved not just the 144K :confused3 But a jw decided to one up god and number the peeps going to heven, how many JW in the world are there? Do you get a membership number? What if you are member 144,001?

I am a Christian nurse who has seen plenty off people saved by blood or plasma. I myself needed to have one after I almost died during childbirth , I have to respectfully disagree with you on that.

Do you mind pointing me to the scripture that JW base their not having Blood transfusions? seriously I would like to know.

I do think the Bible tells us to take blood BTW, the blood of Jesus. But you guys don't believe him as the Son of GOD.

 That'd be just my luck.

This is what we do. We try to keep things as neutral as possible here at home, although our kids are aware of how DH and I feel. My middle DS, now 14, does sometimes go to church with friends, not often, but sometimes, and he participates in some church functions like "lock-ins" where the teens spend the night and they have christian rock bands play at the church. At this point he's not sure if he believes or not. I don't push him one way or the other, he can decide for himself just like I was allowed to do as a teen. I'll support him regardless, just as long as he doesn't try to convert me, LOL.

My DD, now almost 6, has attended church on occasion with my MIL who is very religious. DH and I just recently decided to keep her from church for a few years until she's older and can decide for herself how she feels. We do not 'preach' an atheist agenda here at home and I'm not even sure if she knows we don't believe. We feel, at this time, that we don't want her head filled with christian beliefs when she isn't old enough to make an informed decision on her own. At age five she believes anything an adult tells her, just flat out accepts it as fact. When she's a little older we'll send her off to church and let her decide on her own if it's the right path for her.

Somone asked about Christmas... we do celebrate it, and Easter too, but not as religious holidays. Christmas is a fun winter holiday where we give and receive gifts (we try to stress the 'give' part, but kids are kids, they still like to receive, LOL) and donate to those less fortunate than us. Santa visits, we get to spend time with relatives, we eat and just enjoy ourselves all around. Easter is pretty much the same thing but with the bunny instead of Santa, oh, and egg hunts! :goodvibes

LOL we celebrate commercial christmas, however I am a hypocrite anyway.... I live in the city so my DD does go to catholic school, thats the extent of her religious infulence but I have decided to let her decide for herself :thumbsup2

Everything is Christmas Disney

I think I would like your DH :rotfl: :rotfl:

To the poster who asked if it was murder to deny treatment to a child. well I am on the ethics committee where I am employed and I will say that it has certainly came up in conversation as to whether it should be a leagality for a sick child whos parents are denying necessary treatment to become a temporary ward of the state.... and they should in my good old honest opinion.....

Thankfully for me I am much to out of the box to conform to any religous beliefs.... if I wasnt concerned for my childs intellect in public school.... I wouldn't even deal with the catholics... but what ya gonna do! Catholic school is the poor mans private school

We have this lovely woman visit us every so often. About 10 years ago my grandmother let her in. I guess she was staved for company. Elise brings me the watchtower and the other magazines. I like to debate wit her the different aspects of the religion but I will be a Catholic to the day I die. Some of the things she says I can agree with and others I don't. One of the things she believed is that humans lived with the dinosaurs which I can't accept.

If you don't want Jehovah's Witness' to knock at your door, call or write the Kingdom Hall to be place on the "do not knock" list. Once you do this we will only call on your home once a year, in the event you have moved.
