As the OP, here is my main aggravation with JWs coming to my door. Do not tell me in the presence of my child the end is coming. My main purpose in life is to protect my children and an adult ranting about the end being near violates what is important to me, the happiness of my child. I had to reassure my son again today that the world is not going to end.
The result of the witnessing at my house was a child a had nightmare.

What I dont' accept is that anyone has the right to disturb me in my home to express those beliefs and/or to tell me I am wrong in mine.

And I am really appalled when they attempt to misquote or selectively quote the bible in their attempts to do so.

I would like to say something serious to the JWs.

I don't know about where you live, but where i live and have lived, there is crime.

Crazy criminals have been known to pose as utility workers, police officers, town workers, etc. Then you open the door, they push you into your house and either rape or rob you or worse - kill you and your family.

These criminals are smart enough to know there are people in this world who are innocent enough to just open the door for strangers or people they think they can trust.

What's to stop them as posing as a JW?

I'm sorry but this is why when some stranger is banging on my door like crazy, (when HELLO- I didn't answer the first time-I'm not going to answer now) I stand behind my door with a Lady Smith .38 special waiting to see if this person is going to leave or if I am going to have to protect myself and my family.

It's not like it was 20 years ago when the Avon/vacuum/hairbrush salesperson came a calling. Poor kids can't even sell Girl Scout cookies door-to-door anymore. I know I wouldn't allow DD to do it.

And the JW's should be looking out for yourselves! Suppose some wackjob invites you in and then hurts you!

Maybe I am overreacting. But I'd rather be safe than sorry. And my family means the world to me. Just take a look in my local paper at the police blotter anytime to see how many crazy-drugged out loonies are busting in people houses. And I live in a "great" neighborhood!

I'm sorry - will not take that chance. Just not worth it.

You're right. I was just politely asking that you stop making jokes about them. Say that you don't agree with their beliefs all you want. You are not ridiculing, I agree. I think you are right, I wouldn't want them to "witness" me at me home.

I'm sure I will not find the right words to express my thoughts but I'll give it a try.

Jehovahs Witnesses believe that there is one God,Jehovah who is the universal sovereign and deserves our worship.He created all things.Jesus was his first creation and is his firstborn son.

When Jehovah created the Earth he did so with the purpose of having the original humans live on it forever under his direction.When Adam and Eve listened to Satan and sinned against him,Jehovah put in place his purpose to get us humans back to living on a paradise Earth forever.

This was accomplished when his son Jesus gave his earthly life in sacrifice for Adam's sin.Gods Kingdom with Jesus Christ as head will take over and bring mankind back to perfection with the prospect of everlasting life.

The Bible is the word of Jehovah given with Holy Spirit to men to write down for our instruction.

This is what we believe in short.This is the basis for all other things.

It is a way of life and takes faith to believe.Now some will say we're crazy for believing this way but it makes sense to me.

As for the OP's experience,all I can say is that we are all human and some have less tact than others.Older ones seem to be more direct in their manner.That said you should only have to say you don't want to talk.Sorry.

We have a commission from Jesus to tell others about Gods Kingdom and door to door is how Jesus himself said to do this.

Let's say you just went out and had the absolute best meal you've ever had.You loved it.Would you keep it to yourself or would you tell your family and friends about it.Now maybe most of your friends don't like that type of food.Ok but you told them about it.One friend however was dissatisfied with the food he's had lately.Now he knows where to go to try it.
Some time has passed now and you ask some of your friends again if they have tried this new food.Most say na just don't like that.But one says you know I've had some bad experiences with the food around here lately and I think I'll give it a try.

This is how I can think to compare our ministry.We think we have something great and are trying to share it with everyone.No Witness wants to make anyone feel bad at all.Trying for the opposite.

It's very hard for most to go up to a strangers door,knock and in the best case speak when you're maybe not the best speaker.Or the worst case.....

I just had a young man come to my door selling some things.He was so nervous he could hardly get out what he wanted to say.That was only for cookies and candy.(I did get a cup he had)

Of course we believe what we have is great and want to share with our friends.

Just a little more on some of the things that have come up through the thread.

Money was brought up a couple of times.Everything is done on a donation basis.There are no percentages or anything like that.We do not charge for bible study or literature.All work done on our meeting places and worldwide work is voluntary donation.

As far as blood goes.We are to "abstain from blood".It boils down to our faith here.We will not accept blood tranfusions.Anything else humanly possible to do including for some,transplants.Just not life blood.

As parents we have the responsibility before Jehovah for our children until they can make a dedication to him themselves or are old enough to be on their own.We believe the universal sovereign has the power to bring us back to life in the future if we die.I will tell you that I love my wife and children very much.If one of them died from bloodloss I would be devestated.But there is where the faith part comes in.I know that they will be in Jehovah's memory and he will bring them back at his time.

One last thing since I know this is very long.

My hope is to live forever on a paradise earth.I do not think I will go to heaven.The 144,000 humans that are given the prize of heavenly life will rule with Christ over the Earth.The rest of humanity will be here on Earth.

It is so hard to type what is in our thoughts sometimes so if anything said in the thread has hurt or bothered some please try to remember this.

Some will think I'm crazy,dangerous,bad or many other things but you know I just think I'm a normal guy.I have the same problems everyone else has.I just have a different way of life that makes sense to me.

As a Christian, I understand what you're saying about witnessing. I've always felt a little differently, though. Take your food analogy...I would not rave about and promote a wonderful meat dish I ate to someone who I knew was a happy vegetarian.

1) Can you explain to me where, in the original language, the word Jehovah appears in the Bible, and why it is insisted that that particular name be used, when in the Bible God has many names?

2) Can you explain why one of the principal people who translated the NWT version you use showed in a court of law that they didn't know enough Greek or Hebrew to translate a common phrase? And that being the case, can you explain why you think these people have enough knowledge about the original languages to even provide a correct translation? And given the fact that the particular NWT version you use has been shown by virtually all credible language scholars to NOT hold up to the original words, why you still insist on using it?

3) Can you explain why you DON'T believe that all can go to Heaven (even under your belief system), but only 144,000 - when the Bible seems to say quite differently otherwise?

4) Can you explain why you don't believe in a hell at all - when the Bible seems to say quite differently otherwise?

Care to share the passage that says you should go door to door? Closest I can find is to go out into the world, that doesn't mean to disturb people at their homes.

The apostle Paul at Acts 20:20,21 also Acts 5:42.

It's a difficult busy time we live in and I know we disturb some but there are interested ones that we meet.Some would never know if not for the door to door work.Some would say that's a good thing.

Again this is for anyone.If you are disturbed enough by a visit tell the Witness not to call back.Your house number will be noted.

Hopefully we could at least say hello and have a good day though.

No means No. If I post a "No Solicitation" sign and they knock anyway, trying to "sell" their religion, they have ignored my request to leave me alone and have opened themselves up to any ridicule I, or others, want to heap on them.

Also I feel that by trying to convert you (the collective you), and tell you your religion is wrong, aren't they in a sense ridiculing your religion and beliefs?
