January 3, 2011 - 5 night Bahamas Sailing

I finally finished my FE gifts!!!! I just did one stateroom gift per room and its probably more for adults (sorry kids!)

This time next week we'll be sitting down for our first dinner!!!

Hello all,
I have been lurking and wanted to introduce myself. I look forward to my first Disney Cruise in one week. I hope everyone has a blast and I can't wait to read about everyone's trip upon return. I will be traveling with my DH of 12 years and DS(2).

Candace

does anyone know which night is the formal night? and do we have any semi-formal nights, or is it just 1 formal, and 4 cruise casual, like the 5 day cruises on the Wonder? Thanks in Advance!

We have 1 formal night on Wed and no semi formal nights. Pirate night will be Thurs and the rest of the evenings are cruise casual. I had this info confirmed today when I called to ask DCL a few other questions.

That is interesting info - I would say that the e-mail I received straight from DCL (posted by ssanders79 a page or so back) is more accurate, as that is what we had on our 5-night double dip this summer; an optional semi-formal night. I think if 5 people call DCL, you are likely to get 5 different answers. I e-mailed my DU TA to see if I could add a different answer to the mix!!!

Is lobster served at the semi/formal night? I thought I read some where that it was but I can not seem to find it? We have always planned our Palo dinner that night, which we only had to pack 1 set of formal clothes - but lobster is our favorite. Do we go to our dinner and have a lobster for an appetizer?

That is true for the 7-night cruises on the Magic. No telling if that will be the case for our cruise, or if we'll follow what the 5-night cruises on the Wonder do. I think we have a lot of surprises ahead :)

I have called DCL twice now and have been given this same info. This is my 1st cruise so I am just going off what they are telling me!

I sent DCL an email this morning to see what answer I would receive. To be quite honest I am not sure why this information is not avaliable on the DCL site under our reservation. I understand the fact that things may change, but at the very least post a tentative schedule so people can make educated decisions. If things change then they change.

We are heading off to the US in the morning so not going to be online for a few weeks. Look forward to seeing you all next week!

Just received a reply from DCL.

Dear Scott,

Thank you for choosing a Disney Cruise Line vacation!

I would be happy to assist you.

Dining attire varies by venue or theme night on your cruise. In general,
most meals are "Cruise Casual"-- jeans, khakis and capris are permitted;
however, we ask that Guests refrain from wearing shorts, swimwear or
tank tops in the dining rooms.

Below is the recommended attire for your cruise itinerary and is subject
to change:

On 5-night cruises:
*Night 1, 2, & 5: cruise casual
*Night 3: pirate night with deck party - cruise casual or bring your
best pirate outfit!
*Night 4: "dress-up night" - jacket or a dress shirt for men; dress or
pantsuit for women

Palo is our romantic alternative restaurant exclusively for our Guests
18 years and older. To maintain this elegant feeling during the various
dining options, a dress code is in place for the Palo Champagne Brunch,
Palo High Tea and Palo Dinner.

-Palo Champagne Brunch and/or Palo High Tea:
Cruise casual wear suggested.
No shorts, swimwear, tank tops or blue jeans are permitted.

-Palo Dinner:
Men - A dress shirt or jacket is required.
Women - A dress or pantsuit is recommended.
No shorts, swimwear, tank tops or blue jeans are permitted.

I hope this information has been helpful. If you require further
assistance in planning your visit, please feel free to contact us.

We look forward to sailing with you!

Have a Magical Day!

That is correct, but most guys typically wear a jacket. Ties are 50/50.

Hello all,
I have noticed that the temperature is estimated to be in the mid 70s. Do you think packing shorts and tshirts for DS(2) would be appropriate? I am a little worried about the ocean breeze. I am packing 3 pair of pants for evenings and cooler weather too. Cute sun dresses for me.

What do you think?

Candace, depending where you are on deck, you may or may not feel the breeze. Deck 9, where the pools and ping pong tables are, has a Plexiglass wall around most of it. Deck 10 is open air - there's a basketball court up there. The outside seating for Topsider's Buffet on Deck 9 is also open air (and often windy, no matter the temp.

This might help in determining: How warm was it at your home when you switched him from shorts/tees to heavier clothes? Could you just add a sweatshirt or windbreaker to keep him warm (and wear the same one each day, so less packing)? Is he going to be with you most of the time or playing in the Kids' clubs (if potty trained)? I think that is mainly indoor activities.

It seems to me they serve lobster in Palo's on the night lobster is served in the main dining rooms. I know I've had it on formal nights on 7+ night cruises.

... found some information on "disneycruiser (dot) info" regarding menus on the 5-night Double Dip from Summer 2010: Lobster is served on the Captain's Gala on 7+ night cruises, so it seems

Port Canaveral -- Rotation Menu -- Casual
Castaway Cay -- Rotation Menu -- Casual
Nassau -- Pirates of the Caribbean -- Pirate / Casual
Day at Sea -- Rotation Menu -- Formal
Castaway Cay -- Til We Meet Again -- Casual

This seems to be the same schedule Disney presented to Scott (above).

(Rotation menu means each dining room features their standard menu that night; you will "rotate" through the 3 rooms during your cruise, so you will have the opportunity to experience each menu. On special nights, the menu is the same in all 3 rooms)

Till We Meet Again menu
Appetizers:
Artichoke, Spinach and Jalepeno Cheese Dip
Sesame-Crusted Tuna Sashimi, Wakame Salad and American Caviar
Chilled Seafood Medley
Grilled Chicken Sate

Soups and Salads:
Crawfish and Lobster Bisque
Potato Leek Soup
Romaine Leaves with Artichoke Chips
Florida Citrus and Baby Spinach

Entrees:
Roasted Half Cornish Hen
Seafood Linguini Pasta
Portobello Moussaka
Yachtsman Steakhouse Center Cut Grilled Beef Tenderloin
Vegetable Strudel
Oven-Baked Orange Roughy
Garlic and Rosemary-Marinated Lamb Sirloin
Till We Meet Again Chicken Salad

Remember too that this will be Jan., and with the lack of summer humidity, the 70s will feel different. I'd be sure to pack warmer things just to be safe as well. It does depend where you are from, too.

This is what our 5-night double dip was in Aug., except there was no formal night - it was presented on our Navigator as "optional dress-up," they didn't even call it "semi-formal." We went to Palo that night, so we were dressed up, but we saw people dressed in all ranges, from cruise casual, to dressed up, to formal gowns & tuxes. I would say the majority of people were wearing dressy clothes and that the cruise casual/formal gowns & tuxes were at each ends of the spectrum in the minority.
