January 2010. . . Anyone else going???

We LOVED  50's PTC last year! Everybody wanted to do it again, but I really wanted to try something different this time around. We are going to do Sci Fi this year! I am very aware of the mixed reviews and find myself waffling a bit too! Still pondering.....

We tried Sci Fi in 2007. We will not go back. Long wait even with an ADR. This was our first TS in disney and I was really looking forward to it. I was disappointed with the food, the movies. I give them :thumbsup2 for environment, it does look like the drive in.
Then in 2009 we tried 50s Prime Time. It was great and entertaining, We got outta there lated than expected and then had standing room only for Fantasmic, but we all agree we want to go back.
Maybe this mini review may sway you to return :rolleyes1

Did any of you notice that Southwest is offering a package for January that includes 200$ of package savings, plus the free nights, etc.

We booked directly through Disney. I wonder if now there is 200$ in additional savings being offered, or if it's just a Southwest thing.

Anyone know?

I'm aware that last January there was a 200 gift card in addition to the free nights.

We liked Sci-Fi when we were there. Great burgers and shakes. I wish they have more sci-fi clips to show. This year we are returning but we are just paying OOP for this meal and saving our table service credits for elsewhere.

We love Primetime too! Good fried chicken and great shakes. The desserts were good too. I believe they let us get shakes as our beverage and we got to order dessert too. That was a very big calorie splurge! Ha!

We are trying Mama Melroses too. It's new for us. I saw a picture of their chicken parmesan and it looked really good.

Quick newbie question, all responses appreciated!!!

Neck Wallet (with clear pocket for key to the world card - sorry about name)
or
Lanyard (with clear pocket attached)

THANKS!! :hippie:

This is what we used - the lanyard detaches. We had just enough room for our key to the world, credit card of choice, and some cash. I don't think we actually wore them around our neck, just kept in a pocket of our respective bag.

Oh I AM beginning to sway! I am so not sure anymore! I really wanted to try something new but is it worth the credit? I'm not sure!We REALLY loved 50's PTC! Is it better to stick with what you know and love or to risk trying something questionable just for the sake of trying it? Oh what to do? :headache:

I understand the dilemma, I have waffled back and forth with DHS restaurants, I will be going to 50`s, MM, and HBD. I know we will love 50`s, the others I am unsure and I do hope HBD is worth it. When I was 4-5 we use to drive to FL each March Break, there was a restaurant the BD ( I think a chain at the time), but for me it was a treat to go there. I remember it being fancy, but who knows - I was 4 yo ! We would order Alaskan King Crabs Legs, It was divine... so now I have always wanted to try the HBD. :goodvibes

Anyhow... Sci Fi for us was disappointing, but I know alot of others love it... I do have to say I am glad we went and tried it. So for that reason it was worth it.

Please provide the dates if you woul like to be added to the Ressie list

Okay, first I've never been to either 50's or Sci Fi so my opinion is only worth so much. I had wanted to try Sci Fi this next trip, but DH wanted to not stay at DHS so long and go to Epcot for dinner. I wasn't about to argue with that. But anyway, I have read lots about SciFi and some have had poor service. But everyone agreed the burgers and shakes were great. Sitting in the cars would be fun. That's why I wanted to try it. It's a fairly low cost meal compared to many others. But to answer the main question - what have you got to lose by trying it? It could turn out to be a great meal. And what is Disney all about if not about adventure? Just my .02, so don't go there, hate it and blame me!
On another note- I have eaten at Mama's and really liked it! It was on the F! package - very crowded and I was told to expect it to take a while. I think it was just over an hour. But the food was fabulous. With the package, even on the DDP, we got an appetizer, entree and dessert. So that was a little bonus.
Good luck deciding. Since our trip is rather short, and we're going with 8 other family members, I had to wait to do some that I'd still like to try. Guess I'll HAVE to go back!

We thought 50's PT was ok, but last trip we ate at SCI FI and loved it. Just our opinion. We are going back again in Jan. because we enjoyed it so much in Sept.

i sat down this morning to review my plans,ADR's and park hours...i changed up again and am sitting on the fence for a few :confused3

i was able to snag some tickets for the wishes dessert party on january 2nd.

so jan 2nd- whispering canyon for lunch- dessert party dinner:love:

jan 3rd- 1900 park fare breakfast, i have tepan edo schedualed for supper, not sure if i am going to keep it

jan 4th-kona breakfast, boma supper

jan 5th-cape may breakfast, maybe kona supper

jan 6th-dilema... yak & yeti for a late luch and take advantage of the AKL EMH for the only day we are here, or keep le cellier ADR for dinner and not do AKL at night, i tried to move my le cellier ADR,but there are no availabilities:idea:

jan 7th-mama melrose fantasmic

jan 8th- t-rex

so, It is a toss up between keeping my tepan ressie,or kona supper
2nd dilema le cellier or EMH at AKL

Thanks for the opinions Ladies! :goodvibes I am still on the Fence but beginning to lean in the direction of keeping the ADR for Sci Fi! As much as we loved PTC, we are not afraid of trying new things. We now that we LOVE PTC and can always go back again! We will never know if we will like it if we don't try it! :)

Well here is my .02 cents....we went to Sci Fi and loved it  We had GREAT service and the lunch was great....the food was good and I think it's somewhere you have to try once :confused3 Really how can you go wrong when your at Disney World :confused3

I love coming to read here. It is proof to my DH that I amnot the only one struggling with our dinner plans !

I am thinking of cutting out Ohanna, I keep hearing the food has gone down hill . We will have my 17 mo old Granddaughter with us and I dont think this will be fun for her . Question is what to replace it with ??

I would love to go there too but the food does not interest after they made those changes last year. Hope they change it back.

I have to say DH and I just love Sci-Fi. But we love drive-ins and old B monster movies too. It is just such a very cool atmosphere that can only be found at DHS. With that said....the food can have have its off days. But I have never gone wrong with the burgers, the shakes are out of this world, great spinach dip and last January I had the Steak and Blue salad. OMG!!!

Yeah I have another reservation for Sci Fi this January and I am sooooo ordering that salad again, with a side of Chocolate Milkshake.

Now DH and I have never been to 50's yet, have talked about it, but always seem to want another round of Sci Fi instead. Just my two cents.....

Anyone been to Biergarten in Germany lately?? Any opinions? We have an adult night planned with that as the dinner ADR and a night of drinking around the world (Epcot)......Tequila Bar in Mexico here I come!

I have mulitple replies to recent posts.

Biergarten - LOVE IT! We usually eat there when we go because the food is good (there's more than sausages) and the beer is great and comes in huge mugs! :drinking1 Plus, the Oompa (sp?) band is great!

Fantasmic package - it was my understanding also that they seat early to fill up those less popular slots. Last year our ressie was before 5pm. This year it's even earlier...3:30 I believe. I had to take the Brown Derby again because all the other ones were taken. With Fantasmic going down to two nights a week when we're there, I imagine it's going to be harder and harder to get those dining packages. I really wanted to try MM this time but I took BD so we'd at least get the package. I may try again and see if there's something new open but I know it will be a crap shoot. I'm glad to hear they opened up more time slots though. I think they'll have to with the reduced showings, no?

After much stress and toil, we are staying an extra night! :cheer2: Why is/was that stressful? Long story short, I live in MA and the special election to fill Ted Kennedy's senate seat is Jan. 19th. I am also a teacher so they just decided last week to close the schools for polling that day. We already have the 18th off for President's Day (hence this trip) so after much fighting and finding loopholes with the airline and Expedia, I got the flight switched to the 19th with no fees. :dance3: Since this is a SURPRISE trip for DBf, I've been on my own to vent and stress about all these changes. I've almost just told him to get the stress off of me. But, I held on. LOL
What's funny is that we were talking about Disney the other night and I was telling him about recent changes I've read about and what we'd like to do whenever we go next. He unwittingly helped to confirm my ADR's. LOL Men can be so clueless sometimes! (No offense men on here but I do think we women can be more crafty! pirate:) However I did promise yet again that we would NOT do commando next time so I'm going to leave the planning up to him...with my suggestions of course! :rolleyes1

I need some opinions, I am leaning toward keeping Le Cellier,we have never been, how different could AK really be at night, right?

I also started my PTR today, I am so excited.

I have never been to 50's, but we did do sci-fi, and we liked the food, great burgers, shakes and onion rings, I suggest that you check our some of the dinning reviews with photo's so that you can see which one appeals to you more.

I got all of my Christmas decorations up today...the exciting part of that is that when Christmas is over, we will only be 2 weeks away from our trip to Disney World. Also, paid my final paymet yesterday! YIPPEE... Now hoping for that e-mail offering the photopass at a reduced rate. I won't pay the full price, but I probably will buy it if I get that discount e-mail! Woo Hoo....we are getting closer and closer to January!
