January 2010. . . Anyone else going???

I can't hardly wait to stay in ASMO for my Birthday on January 2010! I will have a party in ASMO!

Last night we had a great evening. We watched some Wipeout from Wednesday (that show is so funny!) and then we rented Aladdin. Can you believe that Madison had never seen the whole thing? What kind of Disney mommy am I?! Well, this upcoming weekend, we hope to rent Beauty and the Beast. Can you tell we're gearing up for our trip?

We had a great weekend at our trailer. I sat in the sun dreaming on my disney plans. I debated my room choices and then tried to balance it out with which dining plan I would select as well as the remainder of our 2010 travel plans.
Not to jinx them, but I may see WDW twice in 2010!
So that affects my choices. I then decided what if I don't make it twice and I I make my budget decisions based on that (still following me?). I decided to hope for 2, know there will be 1 and plan that trip with what we want to do regardless of a potential second trip!
I am leaning to POR. But as you may know my plans change so frequently. DD and I do not need the extra room or amenities. But I want there to be a bit more va-voom than a value. We stayed at the AStars already and POP doesn't interest me- see my logic!!!
Seeing it typed out finalizes my thoughts for me :lmao:

I also started thinking about ADRs:laughing:

And this is how frequently my mind changes ... approximately and hour and a half later :lmao:
I went and did some more online research. I am not swayed to any resort at this point, and to top it off i pulled out my handy dandy budget spreadsheet! Why Oh Why did I do that :sad2:I much preferred living in my disney fantasy where cost and payment did not matter!
I'll keep quite on resorts, the choices are All Star Music, POR or POFQ, CBR.
That is 4 resorts, 4 resorts that get mixed reviews. We did use Music on our Movies stay, and price wise the savings over a moderate would give us some sweet spending money!

Thank you for all listening to my resort indecision!

Great weekend here---gorgeous weather so we spent both days playing in DD's swimming pool :)

Trip question--who is going to be celebrating a birthday during their Jan trip?
I thought it would be cool if we could make a list---might be fun to celebrate with some other dis'ers (especially for kiddo's birthdays!)

My Daughter, GenevaClaire, will turn 5--January 22, 2010--we'll be there from Tuesday to Sun or Tues to Tues (depending on the specials that come out, lol)

Ooooooo let me ask you January people a question (for those who have gone in the past)
Crowds?
Weather? Do you swim?
Any promotions usually available during this time?
Thinking (really dreaming, but who knows maybe?) of going Jan 15th...DD's 5th birthday and completion of my degree celebration?

:welcome: to both of you!!

No January birthdays here.

Let's see. . . January weather - VERY unpredictable. This year on our trip we had a couple of days with highs in the low 50's, about 4 days with highs in the low 80's and a few days with temps in-between! We did get to swim! As far as crowds. . . I think it depends on when you go and the specials offered. We had a few days that were not crowded at all and a few days that were very crowded. :confused3 DHS was the worst, but we went on a Fantasmic day and since they were only showing it twice that week it was very crowded on the days they were showing it. Same with Spectro at MK. We ran into the Brazilian tour groups a few times. And we got there the day after MLK Day, so I think all those things affected the crowds for us. We are planning to go the very last week of the month next year!

Thanks, you too. It's not too bad. This morning was a little rocky, but nothing that a venti Mocha frap with a shot of caramel couldn't fix. Tonight my DH actually didn't log onto World of Warcraft and took the boys and I to a movie and then out to eat. The boys wanted to see Night at the Musuem instead of Terminator. DH and I already saw the Terminator movie, but I will never miss a chance to sit and watch Christian Bale. Then after the movie we went to Salt Grass Steakhouse. Even with sharing part of my 12 ounce steak with the boys, I still was able to bring some home. I always bring some home b/c it is too much to eat, but feel strange ordering off the kids menu. I just order it medium rare so when I heat it up it isn't over cooked. Then DH wanted something sweet, so we stopped by the grocery store. He wanted a couple of pints of Ben & Jerry's Peanut Butter Cup Ice Cream, and I got a pineapple, strawberries and two "personal" seedless watermelons. The watermelons are so cute!! A basketball is probably bigger than they are.

That sounds like a wonderful (and yummy) weekend!

Hi all! We had a busy weekend but a good one.

Add me to the list of those who are unsure of where to stay. I'm leaning towards ASMo for the theming and budget friendliness. I know the kids would absolutely love it! DH is afraid to go down to a value after being used to a mod. He loves CBR but it's also the only place he's ever stayed. I would prefer CBR too (especially after all the talks about how run down it's getting). :confused3

Not to rub it in, but

I AM UNDER 6 MONTHS UNTIL MY TRIP!!!

:yay::cheer2::banana:

Ok, so maybe I do mean to rub it in a little bit, but

I LEAVE FOR WDW IN 13 DAYS!!!!
:cool1::banana::yay::dance3::cheer2:party:

I too was a January Snowbird and I can't bear to leave everyone!! :sad1: Who knows, maybe I can squeeze out another Jan trip. That would be amazing!
Woo Hoo for you both!!!!! :cool1:

We'll be celebrating my dh's 35th while we are there. :yay:

We had an awesome evening last night! Just us, we grilled some burgers and porksteaks, sat at on the patio, us with Miller Lite and the boys with Root Beer in their personalized Disney glass mugs (frozen mugs of course!). It was a gorgeous evening then we came in and watched Harper's Island while the boys watched Disney channel in our room! Very relaxing!

Where did you find a personalized disney mug? Is it etched?

OMG thanks for reminding me!! I started watching season 1 of that on Netflix, and I need to go back and finish the season. It's a really good show.

We will be celebrating 2 birthdays on our trip. John Michael (DS10) will turn 11 on January 8th, and I (Kim) will turn 34 on January 10th. For his cake I'm going to see if they can put a picture of Stitch dressed as Elvis. (January 8th is Elvis' birthday as well.)

We were there at the end of Jan 2009 and had medium to low crowds. It really depended on the park we were at. The obvious crowds are at EMH evenings, Fantasmic evenings and at the MK spectro parade and Wishes. Of course, if you are there and don't want to see the shows, that's a great time to catch the rides!
We swam two or three days we were there. It got up to 80 and down to 40. We had three nice days, then a rainy day, then it was a lot cooler and windier.

We had the 4/3 deal when we went (we stayed longer because of it).

My weekend - up, down, and up. IT was crazy. On Friday we had a picnic with friends, went to see UP (loved it), had a bonfire and relaxed with neighbors. Then at 3 a.m., DD6 was throwing up. UGH. There's been a bug going around the neighborhood where the kids are sick for 1-2 days. Plus she ate a LOT of sweets and junk on Friday. She was better on Saturday, but not great. Problem was, DD8's dance recital was at 5 p.m. Could we go? I was in tears telling DD8 that I might miss it. We'd have to buy the DVD. But, DD6 got strong enough (with a bit of Motrin in her) and came. She perked up watching the dancing and we just kept her on a tiny bit of food, saltines etc. Sunday a.m. she was much better, which was a relief, because at 1 p.m. was HER dance recital! She recovered and with not much more than apples and saltines in her, performed FABULOUSLY!! Better than I've ever seen her do before! I was so relieved!! We came home, went to the neighbor's grad party (their babysitter) and she played with some friends til about 8. She didn't eat much more on Sunday, but was great this morning. WHEW! Talk about dodging a bullet! I sent up a lot of quick prayer on Saturday! He was definitely listening. I would have been heartbroken to have her miss her recital (there are only 4 girls in her class!) and to have not seen DD8 dance either. (it was her first year).
Now I have to make sure they stay healthy and wash hands every 20 minutes because they are in a wedding on Friday night. More prayers going up!

It is etched glass and we got them somewhere in MK, I want to say somewhere in frontierland, but I don't remember exactly. There's also a place in Epcot (near Germany I think) that etches, but I'm not sure if they didn't have exactly what we wanted or if we just weren't ready to buy there...sorry I'm not alot of help!

Oh my gosh!!!!!!! I did it!!!!! I booked our air fare last night for our January trip!! I think I did pretty darn good too!! 8 of us going, flying straight through down and back AND I got to pick our seats.........$1700!! I couldn't believe it! It would've been less but I bought the trip insurance for the tickets. With my parents and in-laws going you just never know. Now if only they'd release those darnned 2010 prices!! I felt like such a stalker on Air Tran's website! Does anyone know how long after they post the new prices before they'd start advertising any deals for January? We'd love to book a special deal if they're going to have one, but I don't want to wait too long to book. ARGH....all this waiting is killing me!!! Is it January yet?!?!? :upsidedow

We have glasses engraved for all of us that we use daily. We got them at Arabis Brothers on Main Street in the MK. You can call them direct to order.....yeah....don't throw knives in the sink when your glass is in there. We've had to get 2 replacements so far! They very good with sending them to you when you call in an order.

Congrats on booking your airfare!! :cool1:

Last year the WDW rates came out in August, but the specials didn't come out until November. . . So we are probably in for a long wait. . . :rolleyes1

Having never gone before in January...how quickly do the resorts book up? We'd like to stay at ASMo, but if I wait until November to see if any specials come out...whats the likelyhood of the resort being booked?

Well, when I called last year in August we were originally going to get 2 rooms at ASMo, but all they had available was preferred locations - at an extra cost. We didn't want a preferred location, we prefer to be in a quiet location not so close to all the action, and we certainly weren't going to pay for something we didn't need or want. So, I'm not sure it would be booked up by November, but you may run into something like this. . .

Just wanted to pop in and say hi to everyone on the new January 2010 thread. This will be our forth January in a row. It's a great time to be at Disney! Take care everyone, I'll post again soon.:grouphug:
