January 19,2008 / Eastern Magic / "The January Thaw Cruise"

I was working on my bag and starting to pack last night. I was lucky my bathing suits still fit, but I have to replace my favortie one because the dog decided to chew thru the straps!!!!

I have been working on my gift bag and am still unsure what type of things people put in them. Are they a Disney theme or something to your area of the county? I could use suggestions of general types of items people put in them as I have never made one. I am a real planner and I think I overly stress over simple things.

Amy,

relax and breathe on the bag... I don't want to give away what is in mine, but here is what I did on the last cruise(and yes, this one is different this year...lol)
In it was all kinds of things from NC. I had some UNC stuff, a mini Stanley Cup for the Hurricanes, some things from the AF base we are stationed at, a bottle of NC local wine, and a bunch of other stuff. In the bag I got, it had a bunch of stuff from Illinois, a gift card to Walgreens and McDonalds, a candle holder, scrapbooking items, pens, disney themed items, candy, a underwater disposable camera..

Its whatever you want to make it...I did find the neatest totebag to put all my stuff in though...:flower3:

Welcome Barb!! Sorry, I really need to catch up on all the posts...

I have added you to the Dis Bag list. Dis Tag is a game, we have a big door sign and will write small notes on it through out the cruise, and pass it from room to room( as long as we have room numbers) at the end of the cruise, whoever ends up with it, takes a pic of it on their door, and posts it here for everyone to see once we get home.
Here is what it looked like:

Thanks,

That gives me some ideas. It is hard to belive two weeks from today I will be landing in Orlando!!!!!!! We have had a really tough week as our dog of ten years passed away very suddenly. It was really hard on my husband and I. We are both really looking forward to a week away with lots of time to spend with each other. We work on opposite work schedules so our time together is really precious. Hopefully after vacation, our schedules will be changed so we are on the same shift!!! I am really looking forward to a really layed back, low stress week. We are not making a lot of excusion plans and spending time on the boat just watching the waves go by soaking in the sun.

I was just reading the previous messages and noticed that we were not on DIS tag. Please add us. I guess I had never mentioned my sailing group either. It will be my husband Scott, and myself....
We are on the 6 deck.

Amy, so sorry about your pup....it is hard when a member of the family passes away. We are on deck 6 also, 6578, and lots of our co-sailors in my group are also.

Beth, you can put us on the Distag as well.

DIS MEET.....SUNDAY, 9:00 PROMENADE LOUNGE DECK 3!!!! If that can't be done once we are on board, I will have to figure out a way to let you all know, but as of the moment there is nothing Disney going on there, and many of the other groups meet there, so it is large enough for all of us. There was, on the Sept. cruise, a Paper Plane Making thing at 9:30 that morning in that lounge, so I would imagine if there is something like that, the kids could always join in on it.

Have a great day................................13 More days!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Cheryl

Amy, you are third from the last on the DIS tag list(I thought I was losing my mind.. or at least my list..lol)

Did anyone have a idea for what they wanted, or how they wanted the TAG sign to be??? I want to be creative, but am running out of time...

bethipooh - would you please add this first time disney cruise family to the bag exchange & tag list:

Mayo Family - Bonnie (DW), DH, DS (10), DS (10) twins & DD (4). We are in SR8550.

Been reading everyone's tips etc. and had to get in on the excitement.

By the way we are right down the road from you in Clayton, NC!

The bag can be whatever I want it to be correct? Door decor and fish extender just be creative is what I am gathering.

Thanks,

Bonnie,

Welcome to the cruise! We're down the road in Cary, so apparently there are a lot of NCers escaping the cold in the Caribbean!

I've got my DD (5) working on a picture to hang on our door (in addition to others I'm still in the process of making) and I need to get out to the fabric store so I can put together my fish extender. Our bag's pretty much done, though - Jim won't let me spend more money on it, and *he* picked out most of what's in it! (just fair warning ;))

I'm so excited - just 2 weeks from now, we'll be trying to drag our DD to dinner while she complains that she just wants to go play in the club! Whee!

See y'all soon!
Amanda

Hey! Jim just found that the the shuttle launch got postponed to no earlier than Jan 24th! Though apparently it's more likely to launch in February, but hey - maybe we'll get lucky!

Amanda

Amanda,

I am working on the fish extender right now - almost done but it has taken all day. I went to Michael's last night and got the stuff work on our door. My DD (4) is almost 5 (she turns 5 two weeks after cruise). What age group do you recommend her staying with at the oceaneers club?

Bonnie

I'd probably recommend the 3-4 group, as it is a lot more princess-oriented. We were on the Wonder for a 4-night right before Hannah's 5th birthday, and we were pleased to put her in the 3-4 group. They did a Do-si-Do with Snow White, they had story time with Wendy, and a couple of other princess-y events that Hannah really enjoyed.

There wasn't as much in the 5-7 group that she would have enjoyed - it seems slightly more geared towards boys. She'll be in 5-7 this time around, since she's significantly past her 5th birthday, and rather than dwelling on it, we've been playing up the cool events she'll be able to do. There are also times when they may allow the older kids to do stuff with the younger and vice versa.

I she's not so into princesses, the 5-7 group would be fine. They have a slumber party, get to make some goopy stuff in the lab on a few occations, and some other stuff that's a little more mature. Hannah will probably be spending a lot of time in the club, and I think there are a few other 5-6 yo DDs and DSs of other posters on the thread that she could hang out with. Of course, there's often unstructured play/time in the club as well, so even being in a different group doesn't necessarily rule that out.

One thing you can always do is take a look at some navigators from recent Eastern cruises and talk to her about the various activities and see which group she'd like best. Also, talk to the councilors when you check in and let them know you're not sure - they will most likely be willing to work with you, and let you switch if things aren't working out.

Either way, I'm sure she'll have fun! We had a hard time dragging Hannah out of the clubs on our 4-night, and I'm already worried that I won't get to see her at all on sea days on this cruise!

WOW! Can't believe I haven't been back to the DisBoards in SOOOO LONG! I used to be addicted. (Or maybe just bored with my long days of boredom as a Computer Programmer with not enough to do.... ) My last log in of August 2005 DOES coincide with my return to my first love - High School Teacher. Not many boring days to DIS there! ;)

So sign up the ckr family: ckr (me-DW), DH, DD14 and DD10. Last cruise was Nov 2001 on 4-day Magic. We're DVCers going on points and gave it as our gift to the girls for Christmas. So, now that they know, we can actually plan. I'm SO FAR behind all y'all!!

So, what's a fish extender? I can do a door magnet, and I'll check out page 38 for the bag, but what's this fish extender thingy?

Anything else I should know? Or any other pages on this thread I should check out? (I've done 1 and 50-58). Thanks a bunch and I'm looking forward to meeting everyone!

ckr

Hi all, we'll see you in a few weeks, we won't be able to make the get together as we'll be in the spa, but have fun.

FWIW, I just looked into a 2009 cruise (figured we'd book on board and get the discount), but the prices seem to have gone up by about $2k on average. I think this is our last cruise for a while (#3). Safe travels everyone!

Amanda,

Thank you for the info. - We will definitely leave the princess to be a princess in the 3-4 group. I am making the fish extender but I am not quite sure exactly what it is for can you clarify this for me - my DH (Randy) said something about candy - help me understand. I never realized how much extra there was to do. Like ckr Santa brought our Disney cruise so I am working hard to make sure I have the right stuff and the extra stuff.

Thank you for helping out with the oceaneers club question.

Is your family going down early?

Bonnie
