January 19,2008 / Eastern Magic / "The January Thaw Cruise"

Cruise docs arrived today for us. Woohoo. Of course, I was going to get on that boat one way or another ;)

Fish Extenders - Some sort of bag or series of pockets that you hang from the fish outside of your stateroom. People passing by can then drop notes, trinkets, etc in your pockets. Not a necessary item (we didn't do one on our first cruise) but I imagine the kids would enjoy checking to see if they got anything from time to time

Dis Tag - A door magnet/decoration that gets passed from door to door. When you get "tagged" you add a note to the magnet and then "tag" someone else based on the list. The last group with it takes a picture of it and posts it to the board after the cruise.

Dis Bag Exchange - During our group meet on Sunday those who wish to participate (and bring a bag to do so) will exchange gift bags. Typically bags have items from your area or things you enjoy and want to share with other people (so get ready for a UNC fan bag from me ;). I haven't seen a dollar recommendation on these but I can say we probably did around $30 on the items in our bag. I'm not sure how the exchange actually works but it should be fun.

We didn't partake of any of these activities on our first cruise but are going full out this time around. :) I've gotten much more into cruising now. I just hope my clothes aren't too wrinkled after being packed for 2 weeks in advance ;)

Did I read somewhere that on the first night we have to turn our clocks ahead a hour??

Also, OK, I give..how and what is a fish extender? I have no clue, and do not have one made...lol..I know its for small gifts..but how the heck do you make one??

Still working on the dis tag sign....am stuck..thought I had it figured out...oh no...

Please count us in for everything, gift bag, fish extenders and tag. Lisa and Sean Quinn (parents), dd Tara (6), dd Kaitlyn (7) and DS Colin (4) and Grandma Anne! We're in cabins 2020 and 2018! Sounds fun! Thanks, Lisa

Hi All,

I need some suggestions. I have almost finished my fish extender, but am not sure how to attach the ribbon to a dowel rod. What type of things have people used? It was really run to make!!! Now all I need to finish is the door decs....

Can you all believe how close the cruise is? I am going to work on packing tommrow. Hopefully my Disney Crocs will be in the mail. We used to be able to buy them at the mall, but I had to order them on line.

Has anyone gotten a count of the number of people who are using fish extenders? This is such a neat idea and will really add to the curise experience.

Has any one see a COLTS mickey? I would like one for my door, but may have to make on on a paint program... Hopefully they will win on Sunday as this will the last game in the Dome.

I also wanted a general idea of the # (I don't want to be there and run out of stuff!), so I just checked the last several pages of the thread and found:

stacieps (me)
lisalisaq
harleysmom
jsheridan
mayotwins
tidefan
KayR
ownesamo
chepic
greatwhite

I assume there will be others that aren't mentioned. I have enough "gifts" for a lot more than that so I guess I'll have enough.

Still no docs for us! Hopefully we get them today - I'm getting anxious.

We will have a fish extender, and so won't greatwhite. I believe that Trish is planning on coming to the meet and do the distag also. I will double check at work tomorrow.

My husband called me and said we received our documents today:cool1: :cool1: I am sooooooo happy.

Beth,

I'm making mine from these instructions:

http://www.sewing.org/enthusiast/html/et_starslockerpocket.html

I've modified it a little bit to match the size of the fabric I got and stuff, but those are the general directions I'm using. I had a *hard* time finding Disney fabric at Joann's (a couple of Mickey prints, *no* princesses at all), but there was a *ton* of cool pirate and travel-themed quilting quarters that would have worked great! Unfortunately, Jim and I determined that Hannah would prefer Mickey over pirates saying Arrr!

I have 50% off coupons for Joann's this week - I should go buy the other quarters and make a pirate one anyway!

Amanda

Beth,

I made my fish extender out of felt (stiff kind - at Michael's Arts & Crafts) plus felt is easy to sew or hot glue etc. I saw where someone else somewhere on the boards was using the dimensions 28 long, 8 wide, 6 inch deep pockets ( 4 pockets). My top pocket is for me & DH, kids each have a pocket. The size worked great. Maybe this will help along with the pattern.

Crunch time is upon us and I am as excited as the kids!!!!

Bonnie

Beth, et al...

I did see a posting somewhere on the Dis where someone just hooked/sewed/tied/glued some appropriate sized bags together to produce a unique fish extender. They were fabric ones I think. It looked good. Perhaps you can pick up some small bags from somewhere and work from there.

Also on the list of vow renewals, I know Gixer was celebrating her anniversary as well. She was going to have an onboard renewal, but I think that she has made alternative plans now. If I remember correctly she was leaving soon or may have already left - I know she has a horrible sounding journey to get from the Falklands to Florida (and then back again). I thought getting there from CA was bad :rotfl2:

One week tomorrow for me :woohoo: :cool1:

The countdown has begun and now I am wondering what I have not done...

-Kay

Woo Hoo:cool1: :woohoo:  We're down to single digits......9 days to go!!!!!! Or, is it panic time???:scared1:

Brett

Beth,

I used the sme pattern and just used 4 pockets. I just have to finish the detail work. I used a Winnie the Pooh theme. I found some really cute fabric at Walmart.
We also added a new twist into our cruise planning yesterday. WE GOT A NEW PUPPY!!! Molly is 14 weeks old and LOVES to play with our Golden Retriver Harley. She was brought home in the middle of a thuderstorm and did just fine. The Foster mom is going towatch her for us when we leave for the cruise. The plans for Harley are still in the air, at last check she was going to vacation at her Uncle Jim's house in Fort Wayne with her cousins Lucky, Spaz and Tana. The other option Grandma and Grandpas in Michigan.
The other change in plans is that my Husband got playoff tickets to the Colts Game on Sunday which was supposed to be his packing day. I was going to go, but let my Dad go instead. That gives me a packing day..

Wow how has the time flown. It is hard to belive that we fly out in 1 week and 2 days. But who is counting. My projects for today are finishing my door decs, laundry and luggage tags.

Oh Yeah, if any one needs pirate shiirts, I found some at the Big Dog store. Mine says Pirate Princess, and my husband has Black Beard. He had vetoed costumes so I guess this was a good compromise.

Well, the vaccum awaits...... I would rather spend time here..
Amy

Bethipooh, almost our whole group is from TN, we grew up in Murfreesboro, near Nashville, I'm in Chattanooga now and my mom is in Memphis. That is a tough project!! At least Tennessee has lots of history and country music stars that should help!!

Well, the winds howled all night long up to 70mph. So much to do today!!!!!! I'm with Harleysmom, laundry, house cleaning and packing the kids for me today:laundy: No documents for us yet:surfweb: :confused3 Keep calling my TA and my mom's docs are in but not ours. My mom booked Cat. 11 handicap room we requested to try to stay close to them, we booked Cat 12 gty. So we are hoping that they are just trying to keep us close and that's why we haven't gotten our room assignment yet. Well, I too would love to stay here but the suitecases await my attention. One week from today for us for our first stay at a Disney Resort:woohoo:  :woohoo:  Port Orleans Riverside, can't wait!!!!!!
Mindi

Sorting and packing for me here too...and the project....we have each letter except 1 X... so we are going to be creative and use XTRA info..lol
It helps that DS was born in Memphis, so that should cover it...

I pulled out all the suitcase last night, and all the toiletries are packed. Got to get to work on our groups shirts. I did see the pirate princess shirts at big dogs here, and have a pink one!!

I delegated my fish extender to a friend who can sew...(don't ask, I am the only person to flunk 4H) and she has some Nemo fabric...so that is covered for me, thats for the links to the pattern, I sent it to my friend.

A new puppy!!! How awesome....DH wanted to get me a Cocker Spaniel for Christmas, and I actually said no. DD has one, and sometimes I think I am going to miss her dog as much as I am going to miss them when they leave...

Brett...DEFINATELY PANIC TIME for me...single digits...where did the time go.

How cool, we have matching shirts... I got the pink one also.
Laundry is about done, just have to fold and put it in the suitcases.

Oh, my DOCS and CROCS came today. It was a big day at the mail box...:wizard:

Hi,

Thanks for all the explanations of stuff. Its our first Disney Cruise also. I'm a little confused about the gift bag. Should this include stuff for the kids? Do we know who we're exchanging with? How does this work? Sorry to be a pain, but I just don't know what to put in it. I'm trying to think of stuff that I can bring on the plane. Unfortuantely I had already sent my box of stuff to the ship or else I would have sent stuff in there. Thanks for anyones help. Lisa

CRUISE DOCS ARRIVED!!!!!!   But no cabin assignment with them. My TA said we will just have to wait till we check in on the 19th, is this true? How can we have papers and be a week away and still not have a cabin #? Any theories would be helpful right now, thanks. Got all 3 kids packed today, now just need to concentrate on myself, and hubby will pack himself this weekend:banana:   Talk to ya all later time to get pick up the kids from school. Have a great day!!!!!!!
Mindi

love2crooz have you checked online to see if the cabin is assigned there?

As for how the bag exchange works I think we just chose a variety of items assuming whomever got it would have children. So there are things for both adults, children, and adults who act like children :)

I also assume it will either be random for who gets what bag or we'll draw numbers and pick bags in that order or something.
