Jan 24 2008 Wonder

Here is another question:

Do you have a favorite place onboard the ship, or is there a place you wish to visit more often? First cruise on the Wonder: what area of the ship are you most excited about seeing?

I want to spend a bit more time in Quiet Cove and the Hot Tubs, too busy the first cruise to relax---NOT THIS TIME!

Oh I thought of another, what do you think our moive options will be? I'm guessing National Treasure II, but what else?

Mary Lee

last time someone called for our cruise it was:
Underdog
National Treasure Book of Secrets
Ratatiouelle I know thats spelled wrong
Dan in real life
Game Plan
POC at worlds end
Enchanted

Plus they often play older animated classic on the jumbotron screen.

we like to relax in the Promenade lounge when they have live music inthere playing, also the hot tubs by the adult pool.

Happy Wednesday ladies,
hope your all feeling well and are as excited to cruise as we are.:goodvibes

I wanted to tell everyone, in case your shy and have trouble walking up to someone to say hello in the Pormenade because you don't know if it will be others from this board I will be wearing a special shirt which will be easy for eveyone to spot.
That way nobody will have to wonder if they are approaching the right people.

I have a white short sleeve shirt and on the back says MOM X4, GRANDMA X4 on it.

here is a shot of my best side:

hope that makes it easier for everyone to find each other.

I'd have to say that my favorite place on the ship is the Cove Cafe on deck nine forward. It's usually nice and quiet there and the wireless internet signal is strong so I relax there and check and respond to email with my macbook.

I want to spend a bit more time in Quiet Cove and the Hot Tubs, too busy the first cruise to relax---NOT THIS TIME!

Yeah I'd agree. The last cruise for Mousefest 12/2/2007 to 12/6/2007 I was constantly on the go. (Sponsoring Mousefest on behalf of MagicMeets) Non stop and did not get to spend a minute in the hot tub! I'm also hoping to get a massage this trip. I am actually going on this cruise solo without my family because I am the best man in a wedding that will be held on the ship. Going to miss my kids but I'll find things to do on my own!

Mary Lee

By the way, My name is Fred. I post in the Wilderness Lodge FAQ and Humphrey's Home thread and I am also the founder and senior event coordinator for MagicMeets Fan Gatherings. :)

Good morning Kathy,
My name is Gus. My wife is Elsa, and the kids are Adrian (19) and Nicholas (12). Adrian is small for his age, though.
I usually have more time than my wife on the web, especially when looking for information.
How do you post pictures? I tried attaching but kept getting a request for a 'URL.' Also, a friend told me to look on the floor for 'anchors' since it always points to the 'bow' of the ship. It will help with orientation. Any other hints?

I use photobucket to post pictures here, it is a free service.

www.photobucket.com is the site.
I think there is a rule on the dis baords that it wont le tyou post pictures until you have a certain amount of posts, but I'm not sure if that rules is still in place. so if you continue to have a problem, just post 15 or 20 posts here to get enough to do the photos.

just put two or 3 words on the posts and we will all ignore them because we know what you doing. just say posting for pictures or something like that;)

I am not good at explaining things about computer stff but go to photo bucket and sign up, then when you hit the BROWSE button a box should pop up and tak eyou to the photos you have down loaded on your computer.

Click on the photo you want , then hit the OPEN button at the bottom of the box
Repeat this for all the photos you want to down load.
Then hit the UPLOAD box and wait. It will show you as it down loads the photos into your album.

once you do that youwill see your pictures and under them will be 3 boxes.
one will say for e-mails 2nd will say something else but the bottom one will say for forums and boards. That is the box you want.
you copy it and paste it to your post. It will show up as a series of numbers and letters but when you hit the submit button to post it will show up as you picture.

this is kind of what it will say and you want the HTML one, it should be the bottom one. Hope this helps some.

Kathy,
Have you seen what kids in wheelchairs/strollers do? My son is really dependent on his family, but he loves being around people and lots of noise.
Gus

Gus,
here is alist I try to give to new cruisers to give them a few helpful suggestions for aDCL cruise. I postred it back a ways for someone else but I will post it again for you since you asked for suggestions

1.early arrival gets an early boarding pass number.

2.terminal opens 10 a.m.

3.boarding starts around 11:30 to noon.

4.keep camera with you at ALL times, even in the terminal. characters will appear there for photos. ourdoor viewing area of the ship for photos.
5 check in at kids club table while waiting to board ship. saves you time on the ship.

6. take a few ones. some for room service tips some to tip porters who take your bags at the termnal. $1 per bag is customary.

7. take small bills for the islands. many small shops dont have change.

8. if your going to use your credit card on the islands, call your CC company first and tell them or you will have to wait on a phone call to ok all your purchases. This is a big hassle and can take 30 minutes or more.

9. most shops who take credit cards, require a $20 minimum purchase.

10 take camera to dinner each night, surprizes happen all the time. You wont be alone. you will even see cam corders at dinner.

11. arrive at all shows 20 minutes early for good seats.

12. arrive at character meets 10 minutes early

13 Princess meets arrive 15 minutes early

14. on Castaway cay if you want your photo taken with Captain Jack Sparrow, do NOT ride the tram to the beach area. It does NOT stop near him. You must walk in to the beach signs say 20 minute walk in it takes us 10 minutes. he will be along the way in the sand and photo has the flying Dutchman behind you, great photo! Check navigator for times he will be there.

15 There are characters along the way to the beach, ok to ride the tram for this. Lines are short and move quickly so it is a great opportunity to see characters without lines. check navigator for times and places.

16 also characters appear at the gazebo near cookies BBQ on the island during the day.

17 adult only beach has it's own area for lunch they often have steaks or lobster there as a special treat for the grown ups. But Cookies BBQ by family beach has more variety of other foods.

18 dont ,miss the good bye late the last night in the atrium. ALL the characters will line up on the stairs and will pose for photos for you. This farwell party is really nice and fun.

19 check for photos everyday at shutters. buy a package deal and save $$ if you dont buy enough photos for the package deal they will refund you the difference at the end of your cruise .
or if you buy a photo and then decide the next day you see one you want more, just bring back the one you bought and the receipt and tell them you want to exchange it and they will be happy to do this for you.

20. you can order warm chocolate chip cookies or Mickey ice cream bars from room service even though it is not on the menu. The warm cookies are available in the evenings only

21. bring 2 white pillowcases or a matte style picture frame in a zip lock baggie with water proof markers and leave at guest services desk ask to be autographed and it will be returned to you the last night all signed by the characters. I also add a card with my name and room number on it just in case their card gets lost. I like to use dark colored markers, the light colors dont show up as well.

22. If you need to change dining times or make a Palos reservation go to Wave Bands club directly upon boarding to take care of this. The sooner you do it the better your chances of getting what you want.

23. I fyou have kids leave a wake up call and then let them answer the phone. It will surprize the because Mickey will be on the phone telling them it is time to get up.

24 Afternoon matinees of the shows are great to see. They are the exact same show, they leave out nothing but it is less crowded and kids arnt as tired, plus it makes for a more leisurely evening. No need to rush to or from the shows due to your dinner time.

25. Pop is free in all restaurants and at the drink station on deck 9. But if you order it from waiter or buy at a lounge or bar you will be charge for it plus a gratuity.

26. stop by the drink station and grab a drink to take with you to the shows or movies instead of buying a can a pop there. If you want a snack stop and grab pizza or hot dogs or fruit on deck 9 to take with you. again save money over buying a bunch of snacks for the kids.

27.At dinner kids can order from both the kids or adult menu.

28. The BBQ at the adult beach often has a fewer choices than Cookies BBQ on the family side but they often will have steak or lobster for the adults only BBQ. That is a nice perk.

29. No need to book floats and bikes ahead of time for Castaway Cay. They have tons of them. wait until you get there to make sure your really going to need the floats or have time to ride the bikes before renting them. we always just walk up and do it at the beach.

30. If you want to do the banana boat ride or the ski do(eco tour) I would book ahead of time. They do often have last minute openings so dont be afraid to ask when you arrive if you didnt book it and decided you'd like to do it.

31. if you rent bikes there are 2 nice trails just off the runway. The first one will have an observation tour. It has a great view of the island and ship. Bring your camera for this!! while up in the tower be sure and look around the base area of the tower. There are some whimsical things to see there too.

32. all the trails have ice cold water in big yellow barrels in wooden framed stands, so no need to carry your own unless you want to.

hope this gives you some new information to help with your cruise

Gus

I have seen many kids and adults in wheel chairs. usually a family member is with them. I know the ship is handicap accessible but some areas are easier than others.
If he likes noise for the sail away party they have a place for wheel chairs only just to the left of the stage so he will be right up front but just off to the side. That is the place to be for the Pirate party too. Plenty of action and excitement all around him and his family.

all the shows are good too and there are special seats towards the back for wheel chairs and their families if he likes that kind of things.
The movie theater has good seats for wheel chairs too.

since he is 19 he would not be in kids clubs he would be in with the teens.
I dont know what is disability is? If he is mentally in his age group you can take him to any teen event. I know the stack has stairs but i believe there is an elevator too.
If part of his disability is he is much younger mentally you can talk to the kids counselors and as long as an adult is with him he will be allowed in the clubs to participate or watch is he isnt able to do things. It is hard for me to say without knowing more about his condition.

But if he likes noisy place to just watch and listen the family pool area will be noisy as the kiddie pool is all day long. by the family pool there is a jumbotron movie screen which will play movies and sporting events and cartoons all day and evening too

Then there is a family night club called studio sea which has wonderful family events in the evenings so it can have alot of excitement.
also the Promenade Lounge will have a family event usualy called the Mickey 200 where families sign up and make a race car from a potato and a carrot and then race them. That gets loud as everyone makes car racing noises and yells for their car.
also in the evenings there is live music in there to enjoy.

There is plenty of places he can have lots of excitment and noise around him.

hope this helps you some. The CM's are great with helping any way they can for families with special needs.
we have an autistic grandson who had a blast on his disney cruise! We are blessed that he is a high level and still shows emotion and is now learning to speak which most autisitc kids never do. He is our little angel!
Please ask if there is anything else I can help with.

kathy

Ok, Its me again, I warned you I would be posting alot.:thumbsup2

I think we need another question for the day to help get us aquinted so here is another one.

What is your or your spouses occupation?

My husband is in construction. He builds houses. He is a superintendent for a major home builder.

I work hard at spending his money, that is my job:lmao:
actually I am retired but I have been acook in restaurants, and I have been into restaurant management and my last job was the owner of a pizza place called Fat Roasa pizza. The worst part of that job was everyone asking if I was fat Rosa:rotfl2:

ok, now lets hear form you guys what is your occupation?
know some of you are still at work but whenyou get home tonight will be just fine.

Kathy

Ok...I am an RN in an opthalmic surgery center, and my DH is meat manager/meat cutter at his family owned grocery store.

Another ??? about documents....what happens if you don't recieve them before you leave? My TA doesn't think they will get here by next Friday...

I'm still here albeit not as much as I'd like. So much to do the final week and a half.

I hope I get some documents before I leave. I know that my Magical Express tags got mailed to the wrong address so I have a promise of trying to mail them out to me before I leave.

At least I'm not the only one w/o cruise docs.

Just as long as I get the cake I ordered from the cake hotline, I'll be happy!

Gotta love cake...

Ok if you dont get your docs, go online to the DCL web sites and click on my reservatons and go from there to check in on line.
you will need to print off just 2 pages and they will need to be signed
contract and authorization to use your on board credit. Bring those with you to the terminal to check in with.
Once you go up the escalators at the terminal there are a few tables where people will check over your docs to make sure they are all there. Tell them you need a Bahamas form to fill out for each member of your family. explain you docs didnt arrive before you left. They have tojs of extra ones.

The only other thing you will need to do is when you pull up to drop off your luggage at the port ask the porters for luggage tags. explain your docs didnt arrive before you left. They have lots of extras. make sure they get the correct room number and name on them and your all set.

we have had to do this before when we booked a few days before the cruise, we didnt have time to receive all we needed either. You wont be the only one needing stuff.
