JAMBO! The UN-official AKL Thread ~ UPDATED(short film/pg 8 & slideshow/pg 12) Part 2

for all of the excitement this thread helped me build before our trip! A few days before our trip, I wrote on this thread about how my DD4 was telling anyone who would listen that we were staying at AKL, and let me tell you firsthand, she was NOT disappointed.

First of all, when we arrived, we had been upgraded from standard to savannah view with bunks. You have to know that DD has wanted bunk beds since she got out of the crib, so she not only got to see her fav animals everyday, but she could do it from a top bunk!

Our whole family (DH, DD4, DS2 and myself) loved everything about the AKL. The bead programs for kids were super, my kids earned 3 beads while there. We thought the selection of food was great at the Mara and we ate at Boma, but after I took the culinary tour, I wished we had eaten at Jiko instead.

Every cast member we had contact with at AKL was friendly and helpful. Our only (very, very minor) disappointment was that we didn't see any towel animals.

AKL will most certainly be our first choice for accomodations for any future trips to WDW. The only thing I will do differently is book a savannah view with bunks, because I would not be willing to take a chance on an upgrade again.

Sorry for the long post, but wanted you all to know that AKL has 4 new fans!

Jennifer

And where are your pictures?!?!?! ;) SHARE PLEASE! :yay: :yay: :yay:

These are the ones I want...

Those are the ones my DD 2 years old has. I'm planning on getting the red w/black.:thumbsup2 DW is probably getting the pink/pearl ones too.

It's still over 24 hours until I arrive at AKL, but I am leaving my house in 3 hours to start the long trip! :cheer2: I will be back from Florida on the 25th and promise to bring lots of pictures! Thanks for all the help I got here during the planning stages of the trip!!

I'm very excited:banana:   I've just booked all the ADR's that we wanted for our upcoming trip in June. We managed to get all the ones i was hoping for!!!!!!

If anyone has any tips for transport to Artists Point and California Grill from AKL i would be most grateful. Also, food recommendations would be appreciated.

Is it wrong to stay at AKL and NOT eat at any of their restaurants?

No, of course not, but you are really limiting your options if you don't at least get snacks/b'fast at Mara, the food court.

d4est: If nothing else, you MUST go to the refrigerated case at Mara and buy Zebra Domes. :yay: We can't count it as an official *stay* unless you can say you've tried ZD's!! ;)

Yes--I have read about & even seen pictures of the Zebra Domes on the food porn thread. ms_mckenna--they are a little dessert that is dome shaped & are reported to be delicious, but I have never had one. I actually contemplated making an ADR at Boma just for the domes! This was when I thought we were staying at POP Century.

We will be on the dining plan & I thought I had my ADRs all set, but now I wonder if I shouldn't give up one of them for Boma...especially since we will be right there!

The only one we will be eating at is the Mara. There's no way my picky eaters (yes, this includes DH) will eat at Boma or Jiko. On the day we hang out at the resort I might try to sneak away and do the culinary tour solo so I can at least try some of the food.

Ok, I just don't get the Crocs! They really don't look that comfortable! Somebody help me out - what am I missing? :confused3

Extremely comfy. Ugly, yeah, at least at first I thought so. Then I tried them. That is all I wore at Disney--where comfy feet are happy feet! I even have bad feet--plantar fasciitis (very painful when inflammed) & my feet never hurt with all that walking.

Now that you can get them with Mickey heads, well I can't say they are ugly anymore!

Do you have a link to the food porn thread? I have searched everywhere and I can't find it! Thanks! :confused3

I can't wear mine for long at all as they rub along the top of my foot, and I soooo wanted to love them!

It's hard to explain.
And I'll be the first to admit - they're not the most aesthetic foot wear.
But I find them verry comfortable -
Especialy after a whole day in the parks at WDW.
I short to "get" Crocs - I think you need to get some Crocs.

The Mickey heads ARE cute! So do you wear socks with the Crocs? Or are they more of a summer sandal-y kinda thing?
