...We went there for the first time when we stayed at AKL in '05 and now we will eat there everytime we go....

...wait a sec, hold de phone, you mean to tell us that you visited AKL and didn't SHARE PIX with us??!?!?!?!

Income tax return is due for direct deposit this Friday...4 more days until I pay off the balance of my package!! (and order my Mickey Crocs!!)

Does any one know if it's possible to get late - ish reservation at both Jiko and Boma? I'm thinking when we check in trying to get reservations for the end of the 14 days

I made dinner reservations at Jiko for this Friday just last week with no problems.

That is great you are using it to pay off your trip! We got ours back friday but DH thought he HAD to have a 4 wheeler.:rotfl: So unfortunately I have to pay mine off bit by bit. blah.

Oh, wait a minute....you mean I have to consider what DH wants? Seriously?

Actually, the rest of our return is going straight into savings because DH thinks he needs some huge garage with a "lift" in it...whatever that is... We will begin building in the spring.

LMAO! :lmao: DH usually lets me do whatever with income tax. Usually fun stuff like pay off cc's ;). We made an agreement he could have it this year because I get it for our big trip in Nov 08 plus the next year will be DD's sweet 16 trip so I will get it again lol. :cool1: Course that is saying we do not end up paying in lol.

Those of you that have gotten upgrades did you directly ask for one? Or just hint around that it was a special trip?

OMG! I was just telling DH (who just shakes his head at me now...still too soon for him to get excited) that I just HAVE to get a pair of these! Crocs were all I wore on our last trip...but sans the cute Mickey heads.

OMG! I love my crocs! Only shoes to wear at WDW!

Very pretty crocs, d4est! :thumbsup2

Hey there, wallyb!! Glad to see you still check in with us. ;)

for all of the excitement this thread helped me build before our trip! A few days before our trip, I wrote on this thread about how my DD4 was telling anyone who would listen that we were staying at AKL, and let me tell you firsthand, she was NOT disappointed.

First of all, when we arrived, we had been upgraded from standard to savannah view with bunks. You have to know that DD has wanted bunk beds since she got out of the crib, so she not only got to see her fav animals everyday, but she could do it from a top bunk!

Our whole family (DH, DD4, DS2 and myself) loved everything about the AKL. The bead programs for kids were super, my kids earned 3 beads while there. We thought the selection of food was great at the Mara and we ate at Boma, but after I took the culinary tour, I wished we had eaten at Jiko instead.

Every cast member we had contact with at AKL was friendly and helpful. Our only (very, very minor) disappointment was that we didn't see any towel animals.

AKL will most certainly be our first choice for accomodations for any future trips to WDW. The only thing I will do differently is book a savannah view with bunks, because I would not be willing to take a chance on an upgrade again.

Sorry for the long post, but wanted you all to know that AKL has 4 new fans!

Jennifer

Ahhhh - glad to you a great time! Towel animals are becoming a rare commodity. We rarely ever get them anymore.

Did you see any signs of construction during your stay? The DVC rooms in the existing lodge are supposed to be ready this fall.

I only knew about the construction from reading this thread, and we did NOT see or hear any signs of construction.

There did seem to be a lot of activity around the DVC desk, though.

Jennifer

Thanks, Jennifer! They started selling AKV points to current DVC members last week (sales to non-DVCers open soon) so I figured they must be really making progress! Glad to hear it doesn't impact guests at all. :thumbsup2
