Ive had a really horrible day

Came back from my SIL this evening to find that my house has been broken into and downstairs trashed, Banana thrown around everywhere tables and chairs overturned,dvds stamped on etc.

Police have just left they reckon it is Kids in gangs getting there kicks as we dont thing they have stolen anything just left a trail of destruction . My house is a mess cant understand why anyone will do this

Socco are coming tomorrow to get prints and I am having to keep have eaten bananas in the frige until then and we cant use any of our dining room chairs as they are covered in foot prints

the poor policemen even said that it is too easy for the criminals as magistrates dont really understand the effects this sort of thing has on peoples lives so hand out stupid sentances

I am so angry, upset, gutted,furious and its going to take ages to feel safe in my own home

Hope you can put it behind you sooner than later. We were burgled about 17 years ago, took Karen about 5 years before she would sleep in the house without me, which is difficult when I leave at 3:30am some mornings.
With ours they went upstairs took jewlery(Her Grans necklace +lots more) did a weird thing by taking out our wedding photos and laying one on our bed.
I now know who did ours, goes in prison for the winter back out in summer, he knows the system inside out. Have friends that will make sure he never does it again but that would make me worse than him however tempting it is.
Hope you can get over it quickly.

Rachel, I am so sorry this has happened to you. I can't say that I know how you feel because we've (touch wood) never been in that position but I can imagine that it is devastating.

I do have to disagree with this statement though:

My boss is a magistrate and it's not the case that they don't understand the effects it has on people, rather that they are limited to what punishments/sentences they can give. I'm not saying that the scum who did this don't deserve a hefty sentence if they get caught but the sad truth is that our justice system is rather lenient and they probably will get away with it, particularly if they are juveniles.

I dont think all magistrates are the same, it was just a shock to hear the police saying such terrible things about them his excact words were " magistrates are all sherry drinking idiots who are not in touch with the real world" I dont belive this for one second and think as with all of society some are better than others. its just sad that this whole system seems to be useless and the criminals know it. I think the policeofficers that came to our house last night were overworked and dissilusioned, we were crime no 1009 of the day.
