I've got to make a confession.....

I'll check back with you in a few years.

And if you want to climb the stairs to ask "are you up", have at it.

:D:D My kids keep saying the same thing too.

See, at least at my kids ages, I don't need to say "are you up", it's "you ARE up". Or, I can...and sometimes do...stand at the bottom of the stairs and use my voice. I have a fairly deep, booming voice when I'm loud, so it's pretty effective. DW tries doing it too, with somewhat more limited success.

No worries, wenrob, I can very much laugh at myself on this one. Like I said, I realize my archaic ways in this. I take plenty of good natured ribbing from my friends, and it's all in good fun.

Where to begin...

I haven't seen a "best picture" winner since Titanic, and before that it was Amadeus.

I've lived 10 minutes from the Jersey Shore for 33 years and I've been to the beach ONCE.

I've never had a cheesesteak. (They just don't appeal to me and I'd rather have something else.)

I've never seen a super hero/comic book movie except 1978's Superman.

I don't participate in any social media except a few favorite message boards such as this (no facebook, twitter and whatever the others are called.)

I've never seen any Star Wars film (except the original in 1977 which I hated), Harry Potter or Avatar.

I've never played a video game.

The only Starbucks I've ever been in have been in Pennsylvania rest stops where I've gotten regular coffee black.

I'm not familiar with any pop music/Top 40 since the early '90s.

I adore classic Broadway but can't get into Hamilton.

I've never seen any episode of Seinfeld, Friends or Big Bang Theory.

Wait a sec...:confused3 I do not remember having created L&Lfan as an alternate profile here on the DIS but I must have because I could have written this post practically word-for-word! :rotfl:

Yes! The one and only sip I've had was by mistake. It was supposed to be a hot chocolate. They gave me peppermint coffee instead. I thought it smelled a little different but I tried it anyway. Pretty much confirmed why I never drink coffee.
I can top your confession, I have never had a sip of coffee in my life, much less Starbucks, lol!!!

I dislike Starbucks. I have had some at the airport because it was the only thing available at the unholy hour I was there. I have been inside the one at MK but for a breakfast sandwich and bottle of orange juice.

:scared: This is the only time I inflict Tim Horton's on myself - there are multiple locations in every Canadian airport.

At age 16, my daughter is (mostly) responsible for getting herself up and out the door. So while I used to have to actually wake my kids up, at this age I just want a confirmation that she didn't sleep through her alarm. And no booming voice at 6:30 when everyone in the house is on a different schedule these days.

My kids are older than yours. I might have said the same thing as you when they were pre-teens. But as they get older I have found that keeping the lines of communication open sometimes requires meeting them on their terms. And that often involves using text messages. I also appreciated the text saying my daughter made it safely to school (not typical, but I requested it today because of the freezing fog) and I also appreciated the "Love you" to start my day, even if it was by text.

And seriously. One day when your kids are away at college and you are able to reach out with nearly immediate results with a text, you're going to look back and laugh at this.

{{sigh}} Don't get his hopes up. I could text my DS that I'm on fire and if he's at the movies, in class, busy with friends or something "more important" he will get back to me when he darned well feels like it.

So sorry! Thankfully I did ok overall in communication roulette. 2 of my 3 are very quick to resond. The third has no interest in carrying a phone at all. We had to require that he carry one when driving to campus every day in the city. Beyond that? Nope. No go. But it helps immensely that it's so easy to reach out to the other 2 as needed.

Many of these things I'm with you 100%.

Not a movie buff...except for what we take the kids too, if I go to the movies twice a year with just my wife, it's a lot.
However, I can't comprehend the living 10 minutes from the shore and not going, nor eating a cheesesteak. Having lived around Philly the first 42 years of my life, those are staples.
No interest in superhero stuff, even as a kid
No social media
Never seen Harry Potter or Avatar (have seen Star Wars, am a very casual fan)
I know some modern pop because of my kids, but after the early '90's, I stopped paying attention (only "modern" one I sort of like is Pink, because I like her music and she's a hometown girl)
I've never watched Seinfeld (I can't stand him), Friends, Big Bang or pretty much any other popular TV series. TV watching for us is sports, HGTV or what the kids watch.

mom2rtk,
No doubt things will change as the kids get older. I've learned in nearly 13 years of being a parent that you must adapt.

^^^^^
I liken the beach thing to people who live in Orlando and have never been to WDW!

I've been to Starbucks only a dozen or so times. I think the plain coffee is very good and the price seems ok to me. I just don't fancy going somewhere for coffee, I have a coffeemaker in the kitchen. :confused3 If I'm meeting someone for coffee I'll go to a local shop about 100 ft away from the Starbucks where there's never a problem finding a seat.

I have only been to Starbucks a few times I didn't get it.

I have not rushed out the door to see La La Land. The very name of it annoys me. There I have confessed also!

My sons are like that. My daughter, on the other hand, will always immediately respond to any text or email I send to her.

Love Starbucks.

Have never seen any Star Wars movies.

Avid reader yet could never get page 2 of a Harry Potter book. All of my kids read the entire series, many times over.

I was 18 1/2 when I got my cell phone. The only reason I got one in the first place is my aunt paid for it (well got it for free technically) but I was on her cell phone plan for a few years before switching to my mom's and then onto my own plan. The phone was handed to me for Christmas during my freshman year of college in 2006.

Honestly, even though my step-father-in-law doesn't text (he actually just got in the habit of a smartphone and now uses it more for just phone calls), I cannot even imagine my life without it. It's amazing what has changed in just over 11 years.

I love Starbucks Flat White. Addicted to them.
I hate Dole Whips... I know, I'm probably the only living human being on earth who does.
I eat my steak well done. Even when we've gone to Ruth's Chris or Mortons, I'll order a well done filet. My husband always cringes, lol.

Okay... here goes: when I was young, foolhardy teenager... my friends and I pool-hopped at WDW.

If I need to send in my Dis resignation, let me know...

I've only seen one episode of Game of Thrones. I've never see The Walking Dead, House of Cards, Breaking Bad, or a full episode of Two and a Half Men.

I haven't seen Avatar.

I hated Forrest Gump.

I've never driven a stick shift.

I've never ridden on a motorcycle.

I've never been to Greenland
and I've never been to Denver
and I've never buried treasure in St Louie or St Paul
and I've never been to Moscow
and I've never been to Tampa
and I've never been to Boston in the fall
