Thanks to the earlier poster about the rollaway beds. I didn't know those were available. It's nice to know there is that option. My kids are just getting a little too old to be having to sleep together.

I think the Mansions look beautiful, like antebellum homes, so I wouldn't be at all upset if we got one of those if we could get a rollaway bedd too!

I have one quick question. I noticed in the information bit in the first post about smoking rooms. However, I am aware that the particular thread has not been updated for some time. I know full well that Disney put in place their 'No Smoking' policy last year, but just wanted further confirmation that all rooms at POR are now non-smoking/smoke-free.

Lately when we have gone in the cooler months, we have had to beg management every day to please turn on the heat in the pools. The CM's have told us they hold off as long as possible to save money. They usually will heat the main pool before the quiet pools. Last November they finally turned on the heat after 10 days of begging. As for towels, as long as the lifeguards are at the main pool the towel bins have been out. But at the quiet pools we bring towels from our room.
Thanks! I can beg with the best of them!

Good to know too--they said our request for a trundle was not guaranteed. And my kids are happier (and thus me happier) when they are not kicking each other.

Yes...ALL Disney resort rooms are now non-smoking. Guests can no longer smoke inside of the rooms; however, there is specific outdoor areas that guest may smoke in. This all took place June 1, 2007 and from what I have heard, even the rooms that were previously smoking rooms do not have a hint of smoke odor at all!

Does the hotel provide towels for the pool or should we bring our own beach towels?
The main pool has towels for you. Quiet pools you will need to bring your own towels. However, all you need do is request extra towels from housekeeping.

Calling ,Scottny..............I'm so sorry to have to ask you this again, but I lost my notes and can't find it on this thread anywhere. Awhile back I asked you when you left POR to go to Chef Mickeys for breakfast how long it took you to get there .We have a 9:30 A.M. revs. and would like to know when to leave. Thanks, I will for sure to put it in the P.C. this time.
Scottny I need ya,please see above.

The hair dryers in the room are typical of what you will find in any hotel, just the same oompf as my travel dryer.

We're taking the plunge again - planning another WDW trip for Sept/Oct 2008 (not certain on dates yet). This time I'm excited about staying at POR!

I'm not certain which section I'd prefer - like many others I like the green landscaping and critters of AB, but prefer the look of the Mansion rooms. I suppose whatever I decide and request and get set on we might not get anyway - maybe I should just let it go to chance?

We'll have DS4 and DS(almost 2), sometimes walking (toddling), sometimes in a stroller, so I don't want to be too far from everything. My parents will be coming too - we'll need to at least request the same bldg as them. We will have a car. I really don't want a parking lot view, though I don't mind being near the parking lot. Sounds like the AB bldgs near the parking lots can get noisy due to the street behind them though.(?)

I'm hoping we can do the carriage ride and/or surrey bike rides, and would like to do the campfire on de bayou! I hope it starts right away from Oct 1st, since that's probably the only Thurs/Sun we'll be there in Oct.

I've enjoyed reading posts here and all the great pictures.

Does anyone know....do they typically give you the room type you request? Is there anything I can do that have a better chance of getting what I want?

I got exactly what I asked for. We were there Sept 16 to the 21st. I asked for either building 14 or 18 in AB, no parking lot view. I checked in a little before noon. We got building 18, close to everything and no noise form the parking area at all! It was great!

They try to meet requests but not all can be met, also the sooner the request is on your reservation the more likely you are to get it. They do not deal with Faxed requests at all.
All you can do is to request when you book make sure that is in the notes, then request again when you check in.

i read something else that said to call three days before check in and make the request again. should i do that or would they just find me annoying?

We just were there in June with our family of 5 (kids ages 2, 6 & 7). We stayed in the AB section in building 18 and loved this location! It was not too far from the food court, bus stop, main pool. It was right next to a quiet pool. Plus it was quiet and beautiful! I have stayed in the mansions section also before kids and I much prefer the AB!

Thats what I did and we got our request. I made the request when I made the reservation (Jan 2007) and then I called a few days before we arrived (sept 16 2007).

They tell you that they can't guarantee anything but that they will try.

When I called I called the hotel direct. I just said I wanted to make sure all was OK with my reservation and then to check if they had the request(s). It was DD's 5th b-day so we had also asked about a card from her fav character, Sleeping Beauty. She looke nad said yes it was all there. I thanked her and wished her a good day.

Good Luck! Its a beautiful resort!

We are staying at POR. But what if we want to look at the other resorts for fun? Like the other moderate ones and the deluxe ones. Can we take a bus from our hotel to the other hotels? Or would we have to rent a car or get a cab? I've always wanted to go in the Grand Floridian.
