Do they ever put a family of 5 in a mansion room? I really would love to request staying there instead of AB. I have an airbed so we don't need the trundle. Thanks for the info...

Yes! We were a family of 5 and we were put in the Mansions with a rollaway bed (free!). :thumbsup2

Here is the link to the on-line version of the WDW Vacation Planning Video: click here. Once you’re on that webpage, click on the RESORTS button. The webpage will rearrange itself and some new buttons regarding the Resorts will appear. Put your mouse over the Disney Moderate Resorts Overview entry and select "Disney’s Port Orleans Resort." A video window will open and the Port Orleans Resort video will begin to play.

It’s a nice way to experience a little bit of Disney magic without leaving the comfort of your home. ;)

I just booked a room at POR for me, DH, DD4 and DD7. We wanted a king bed as we have 2 air mattress for the girls but CRO would not allow me to book that so I went with a room with the trundle. Does anyone have any thoughts as to why this happened or if there may be anyway to get a room here with a king bed for the 4 of us? If this would be better as a separate post, please let me know and I will move it. Thanks

We followed the room and building guides from "Unofficial Guide" strictly: Asked for second floor in Bldg 38. Sure enough...view was GORGEOUS! We'd go back anytime...and having stayed at Contemporary (3x), Coronado Springs, The Swan, and Lake Buena Vista Palace in WDW Village, I'd have to say Riverside was the best value and among the prettiest. Fantastic grounds, very nice furniture, wonderful beds (we didn't use the trundle, tho...) and fun atmosphere. We were there in Feb so only 1 brave son used the pool, but next time...

Always go for second floor unless you can't do stairs, and pay the extra $15/night for the water view. Room 3854 is a winner!

Sorry, it just doesn't work that way. A king bed room is limited to two or three people. You can actually get a rollaway in a king room for a family member in some of the resorts. Disney doesn't allow for air-cots.

You are some very knowledgable people :teeth: and I hope you can answer my question.

I have stayed at POR back when it was Dixie Landings. I stayed in the AB buildings. I am planning on going back to the world in January with DBF and would like to try POR again. This time I want to try a mansion building. I am wondering if this is at all possible: To have a non-smoking room with a king bed? I heard there aren't many to begin with and I am wondering if I am being too picky. I have asthma so non-smoking is a must. I hope you can help. TIA!

Well, we booked our first trip to POR today through AAA we will be there the first week in December... I am so excited especially after reading through most of this thread... but I still have just a couple of questions.

1.How far of a walk is it if we want to swim in the dragon pool at FQ?

2. (somebody asked this earlier but it was never answered) Do they have icees in the food court like at pop?( my dd10 would love this)

3. Do they still have the campfire smores making thingie (yes, I think that is the technical term for it)

4. not a question, but I would still love to see more pictures (for some reason I can't see those on page 1)

Thanks
Laura

I am currently scheduled to stay at Corondo Springs and am feeling that we should change hotels. Have never stayed on property and am hoping my travel agent can get us changed to either Port Orleans French Qtr or Riverside.

Any suggestion on which one would be better?

Just curious as to why you feel you should switch. I have never stayed at Corondo but I hear it is great. I would give it a try if there were not 5 in our family. POR is wonderful though and we love it.

We stayed at POR from 2/5 - 2/11. It was our first time on-site, and we loved it. To try and answer your questions.

1. We didn't actually walk to FQ, but it seems like it would be kind of a far walk. Someone else may be able to answer that better.

2. I didn't see any icees in the food court, but we only ate there for breakfast.

3. Also, didn't see any campfire smores making thingie, but I wasn't exactly looking for it.

Not sure if this helps you any. :confused3

Just returned from Disney, we stayed at the Port Orleans in the Magnolia Terrace room. We had a non-smoking king bed and the bed was fabulous!! :thumbsup2

This is our second time at the POR and it is one of our favorite places to stay. There is so much to do...we even went fishing! Didn't catch any...I think it was a conspiracy among the fishes :rotfl2:

The walk to the FQ is not very far and there is always the ferry that will take you there and to Downtown Disney. The food court is nice and lot of selections and the pastries in the more smell wonderful!! Boatwrights is good, just wish they would have more of a selection. But overall, this is a wonderful place to stay...so quiet and the walks between the building and the main bldg are not far at all.

I think it was this thread that someone asked to see pictures...

POR... we stayed at Parterre Place, we walked to POFQ one morning, and decided it was too far to catch the bus there!!

we didnt ride the horse, but the CM was very nice, and dd just loved hanging around!!

The "dumbest" thing happened, on our way back from DTD via the boats, our captain saw another boat, that captain declared our boat unseaworthy - so they 'grabbed' on, and we had to walk from our boat to the "new" boat - in the middle of the river!! I truly thought it could wait till we docked (on the right was OKW where we did dock!!) I think the problem was the walkie talkie wasnt working... but they may have just "said" that so as not to cause a panic!!!

Is it still to fax directly to the hotel? I have message board overload :crazy2: and I think I've seen several different suggestions.

What I would like to request is: nonsmoking room, Magnolia Terrace, courtyard view. Is that getting too picky? I've read not to overdo it on the requests.

4 days! :cool1:

From several posts from people that go often, just calling CRO and having them state those requests on your ressie should do it - (the fax requests some have reported are not read, just tossed.. )

I then would call them a few weeks before arrival and ask what was noted on my ressies for room requests... sometimes you can get a CM that is very talkative, and kind, sometimes one not so much...

I think those are fine requests... but dont forget when you check in to ask again too - it doesnt hurt imho!!

We were at POR from 2/15 thru 2/22. I did not get any of my request. I wanted building 18, ground floor, smoking. Well I did get ground floor. They were booked solid when we arrived at 11:00 am and could not even get us a smoking room. They told my mom just to stand outside the room and smoke. They did not offer any compensation for this either. We had booked at least six months ago with a smoking room request. I was very dissappointed that they did not at least put us in a smoking building. I do not smoke but this was my mom's vacation for her 70th birthday and she does smoke.

Even though they were booked solid it did not seem crowded. The only time we ran into a big crowd was at the food court one morning for breakfast. We avoided the food court for breakfast after that.

The food in the food court was great. Boatwrights was great.

Housekeeping was also very nice and thorough.

The trundle bed was hard but my 28-year-old neice and my mom both took a turn sleeping on it as the two children fell asleep on the bigger beds a couple of times. I would have just moved one of the kids but they wanted to try the trundle bed.

Overall we enjoyed our stay at POR. There were three adults and two children ages 5 and 6 and the room could be a bit crowded at times but not too bad. the curtain divider for the the sink area was great.

The big pool had lifeguards on duty and this was an added bonus for me as my 5-year-old does not swim real good yet.

We all had a great trip and we would probably go here again.

If you have any specific questions just ask.

1. I think it's about a 10-15 minute walk from POR to POFQ. Everyone always says it's not a long walk, but I'm in Disneyworld - last thing I want to do is walk ANOTHER mile!

2. I believe only Pop has the icee machine.

3. The campfire/s'mores are over at Ft. Wilderness.

4. Maybe after we stay at POR in May. We stayed there in May, 2004, but I didn't have a digital camera then!

A few questions: are there elevators in this building???? we didn't find any!
QUOTE]

No, AB has no elevators. I believe the only moderate that does is Coronado Springs. If I'm wrong, someone will let us know. I've stayed at POR, in the AB section, so I know I'm right on that. Also stayed at CB, know that answer's right. Also stayed at CS, know they have elevators. Don't know for a fact about POFQ or POR-Mansions.

How's that for a weird, rambling response??? :confused3

I have been doing some reading, and it appears that to go to any of the other resorts, or to downtown Disney, it is quite an effort to get there. I thought if we stayed at POR or FQ, we would be able to get a few more places easier. Plus staying at Coronado, while eating at the food court, they add on an extra 10% if you eat it there. That may not be a lot, but, we just trying to get the most of our stay. From what I understand if you don't have a car, and we won't, you have to catch a bus to a park then catch another bus to get to where we would need to go. Is this not correct? It have been 9 years since we have been to Disney, and we have never stayed on site.
